Decades after the Holocaust, we continue to learn new details about what took place and how the world did (and didn’t) react. This edition looks at a new film on what the U.S. leaders and the public knew before and during the war.  Mosheh speaks to documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and his co-director Sarah Botstein, who have produced some of the most highly-acclaimed documentaries in television history. We discuss their newest documentary, "The U.S. and the Holocaust" - which casts a critical light on America’s actions in the lead up and and in response to, one of history's greatest horrors. The film looks at WWII-era America, including how prominent politicians, journalists, and celebrities reacted to the atrocities of the Holocaust, and how it shaped U.S. history. We also look at American anti-immigrant and anti-semitic sentiment in the leadup to and after the Holocaust, as well as how US government treatment of Black and Native Americans may have inspired some of Adolf Hitler’s policies. – Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. – Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. After the most recent presidential elections, there are ongoing questions about the accuracy of polling and which ones to trust. And whenever I post a story about a poll, I get so many requests to do more on this topic.  Enter Anthony Salvanto, CBS News' director of elections and surveys. He is also the author of “Where Did You Get This Number? A Pollster’s Guide To Making Sense of the World.”  I talked to him about how pollsters get a true picture of the mood and sentiment of the country and why 1,000 people is the right sample size for both a city the size of Chicago and the entire US population. His answer: We need to think about the accuracy of a poll the same way we get a sense for how a bowl of soup or spaghetti sauce tastes. From one spoonful. More on that analogy in our interview, as well as his answers on how the internet has changed polling, his response to critics, which populations are the most difficult to capture and why polls have more power than ever before. – Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. – Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. Nearly 60 years after assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the US government continues to keep thousands of files classified. President Trump and most recently President Biden both decided to block access to key archival documents (on the advice of the CIA) despite a law that says everything should have been released by now. Former Washington Post reporter and author Jefferson Morley, one of the most credible authorities on the assassination joined Mosheh for a conversation last fall.  What is the CIA still withholding from the public and why?  What did they know about Lee Harvey Oswald's actions in the lead up to November 22, 1963 and why were so many CIA officials tracking his movements before the assassination? And could Oswald have pulled this off alone or was he being coached and assisted by any others? Morley is the editor of the JFK Facts blog, author of several books on the intelligence community and has spent a career exploring what happened and fighting for the government to release everything it knows. In our conversation, he takes a fact-based approach to break down what we know as well as what is being withheld and why....all these decades later. – Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. – Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. The war in Ukraine is more than six months old and it does not appear to be ending anytime soon. In the latest Mo New Conversation, CNN's Chief International Affairs Correspondent, Clarissa Ward, joins Mosheh to discuss the state of the conflict. .  Ward is an award-winning foreign correspondent who has spent two decades on the front lines in conflicts around the world. She spoke with Mosheh earlier this summer during one of her tours in Ukraine. Ward discussed why Ukrainians have been able to defy expectations, how this war compares to others that she's covered, how she stays safe and what comes next. They also discussed her incredible reports about an 86-year-old Ukrainian woman who was trapped in Ukraine, and the line between being a journalist and helping people she encounters.  (Story 1 & Story 2)  – Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. – Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. This year marks 50 years since humans last walked on the moon. NASA is poised to return there with the new Artemis program that starts with the launch of a rocket this fall with the goal of landing humans there by 2025. The ultimate goal: a moon base that will help us launch missions to Mars within a decade. However, technical issues have canceled the most recent attempted launches and the cost of the program keeps ballooning.  In this edition, Mosheh talks to David Kerley, correspondent for the Discovery Channel Space Launch Live and editor of the Full Throttle Newsletter. He also previously covered space and aviation for ABC News.  The conversation with Kerley explores the mission to return to the moon, the latest NASA challenges, the plan to get to Mars and the overall state of space exploration, including the competition between Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Richard Branson and Boeing. They also discuss “For All Mankind,” the Apple+ drama that imagines a world where the US-Russian space race and missions to the moon never ended.  – Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. – Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. 22 women have run for president in American history. And yet, the U.S. is not among the 60+ countries around the world that have elected a woman head of state in modern times. NBC News Correspondent Ali Vitali dives into why in her new book, Electable: Why America Hasn't Put A Woman In The White House Yet. Mosheh spoke to Vitali recently about the unique challenges and biases women face from the media and voters and look back at lessons from their time covering presidential campaigns. During the conversation, they also look at the impact of VP Kamala Harris, look ahead to the likely contenders in upcoming election cycles and why a Republican woman might end up being the first to win the Oval Office.  – Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. – Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist.
