What does hair represent in your spellwork and offerings? In this week’s episode, the witches answer a listener’s question about using hair in your Magickal practice. Why is there a difference between hair that has fallen out naturally, as in a hairbrush, and hair that was specifically cut with the intention of making it an offering? Burning hair has been used for thousands of years, and it's been connected to the cleansing of the crown chakra, allowing for the removal of negativity and a reset. There are several different cultures that burn the hair of the dead to not only bring them closer to the living, but to also cleanse the negativity for them and to help alleviate pressures, such as generational hexes and curses, and the energy of families. Hair is seen as a very powerful genetic resource because basically, it has the same contents as blood. How much of your identity is wrapped up in your hair? In this week’s podcast episode, we explore the qualities and relationships of the root chakra. There is some debate whether sexual energy is connected to this chakra. Where do you feel your sexual energy in your chakra system? Can the root chakra be about more than just safety, roots, your foundation, ancestry and sense of security? The kundalini serpent lays coiled at the root chakra, and she can be awakened through sexual energy and the activation in this chakra. When we explore the energy body, we tend to break it into parts to explore different energy centers and qualities reflected in our lives. In so doing, we may be limiting our understanding of the potency of our sexual energy which is also our spiritual energy. There is no separation or difference, merely our own perceptions of our life force energy. Join April, Harmony and Maggie for a riveting discussion of our primal root chakra. Ix Chel was worshipped by the ancient Mayans as an iconic triple goddess. She was a goddess of the moon, fertility, weaving, magic, healing, sexuality, and child birth. She had the power to weave all of creation into existence. Her spindle is in the center of the motion of the universe of all creation. Her totem animals were the snake, an animal of wisdom and transformation, and the rabbit, an animal of fertility. She has a close association with dragonflies after they bring her back to life with their healing powers. Much history of this goddess was lost with the Spanish invasion of Mexico. Many make people still make pilgrimages to her temple on Cozumel and make offerings to this Goddess. The Hand of Glory was a magical talisman that was popular in the eighteenth century in Northern Europe. It was an actual hand taken from criminals who had been hung. Witches and practitioners of the art would cut off a hand for mummification which used specific incantations and was stuffed with oils and herbs. The left hand of a criminal was used for bad magical work, such as hexing, cursing, and rendering people unable to move. If you were going to use it for assistance, help, or protection, they used the right hand. Several right-handed mummified Hands of Glory were found in the walls of cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries, specifically in Northern England. Fat was also removed from the criminal that was hanging to make a candle that was placed and lit while in the mummified hand. Join April, Harmony, and Maggie as they discuss this creepy and historical practice of witchcraft. Check out the mummified hand of glory on TikTok and Instagram! Lughnasadh is a cross quarter sabbat in the Wheel of the Year. This holiday is celebrated on August 1st, the closest full moon or when Leo is at 15°. Throughout Paganism, the first harvest is celebrated midway between Summer Solstice and the Fall Equinox. Lugh is known as the Sun God or a God of Light and is the foster son of Tailtiu, a Femorian who survived the invasion of the Tuatha Dé Danaan. Tailtiu was known as an earth goddess. This celebration marks a time of harvest, gratitude and the beginning of letting go as each night gets darker and darker in the sky. As the feminine reign takes over, we remember to give way to the natural flow of letting go with grace and ease. Was Rhiannon a Welsh Goddess of the Moon, a real person, a witch, a Fairy Queen, or sister to Brigid? With so many variations of stories and myths, Rhiannon’s essence still reaches the hearts of many women today. Join April, Harmony and Maggie as they discuss one of the stories of Rhiannon and how she carried out her unusual punishment for a crime that she did not commit. She was ruled guilty and carried out her sentence of being tied to a horse’s block and telling those who passed by that she birthed and ate her own son. Hel is a Norse Goddess who is the daughter of Loki and a giant. According to a prophecy that has been lost over time, Hel was forced by the God, Odin, into Helheim, the underworld, a place where you would go if you don’t die a glorious death and go to Valhalla. She was given control over the nine different dimensions of the afterlife and Hel even has the power to bring back the dead. In the 13th century, St. Bartholomew, the Bard, mentions a story with Queen Hel having a conflict with Jesus. This was enough to influence culture in society as the plays and songs were shared by the Bard. Over time, the Norse Goddess, Hel, had been replaced with a Christian place called Hell, a place of torture in the afterlife.
