A new podcast in which Rev Anikó Schütz Bradwell reflects on life and ministry. She’s a parish minister in a rural parish in East Lothian, Scotland. Originally from Germany, she volunteered halfway across Europe before coming to Scotland, where she lived and worked for nearly three years on the Isle of Iona. Then settling in Edinburgh, she trained as a minister in the Church of Scotland. She shares life with her husband, young son, a manse cat and two guinea pigs, and enjoys their garden, photography, music and books - especially when she finds the time for any of these. She recharges and does much of her wondering on early morning walks in the local community woodland. This time, I'm having a chat with my friend Gordon, who is a prion chaplain, about his ministry. He explains what he does, and what motivates him. There are some difficult themes we touch upon.

Looking around the world, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, overburdened, and yes, helpless. Why doesn't God do more to protect, save, heal us? The age old question is one of the things I'm wondering about this week.
This time, I'm talking to my friend Ali, who is a chaplain in Rachel House, a CHAS (Children's Hospices Across Scotland, more info at www.chas.org.uk) children's hospice. Hello! I'm back from my holiday in Scandinavia, and I've brought something back with me: this time, I'm having a chat with my friend Benjamin, who is a priest in the Swedish Church, Svenska Kyrkan (and the realisation that we've known each other for nearly twenty years makes me feel quite old). No, not really Take That. We are going through a period of change in the parish, and the Church of Scotland as a whole. But is that really such a bad thing? It's scary, sure, but we're not alone. I'm exploring what my week's been like, reflect on Bible passages from Paul's letter to the Galatians ch 5 vs 22-23 and Luke's gospel ch 9 vs 57-62, and have a prayer for us all.
In this first fuller episode I'm thinking about preparing wedding services, and reflect on the plan to deport migrants from the UK, in pondering passages from the lectionary readings for this past Sunday, from Paul's letter to the Galatians ch 3 vs 28 and Luke's gospel ch 8 vs 26-29. I'm asking 'What would Jesus do?', and offer a prayer for us all. I hope you enjoy listening.
