In this episode we chat with Lara Rae about working in a writers room, creative vulnerability, writer's block, and so many other insights on television and comedy. It was recorded at a live zoom event in November 2021.  Lara Rae is a writer and comedian, best known as the co-founder and artistic director of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival for 19 years! She's written for TV, radio and theatre, including 3 Canadian Comedy Award nominations and a Gemini Award nomination for her work on Little Mosque on the Prairie. She's frequently worked with CBC as a performer on The Debaters and columnist.  After this episode, we'll be taking a brief break from our biweekly releasing schedule to record some new episodes! We'll be having panel chats with folks in camera, sound, and other specialties so keep an eye and ear out for that.  Thank you FRANK Digital for sponsoring this podcast  Host: Sara Bulloch Mixer/Editor: Erin Hembrador Intro/Outro Music: housepanther (Bailee Woods)
In this episode we chat with Rhayne Vermette about her debut feature Ste. Anne playing at festivals around the world, as well as her architectural background, acting in in her own film, and working in animation and live action. It was recorded at a live zoom event in October 2021.  Rhayne is a director and visual artist born in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba. It was while studying architecture at the University of Manitoba that she fell into the practices of image making and storytelling. Primarily self taught, her films are opulent collages of fiction, animation, documentary, reenactments and divine interruption. Her debut feature, Ste. Anne, won Best Canadian Feature at TIFF, as well as screening at Berlinale, NYFF, and more - http://rhaynevermette.com/films/ Thank you FRANK Digital for sponsoring this podcast. In this episode, we chat with Diana Thorneycroft about dark humour, teamwork with stop animation, venturing into new artistic mediums, and more. It was recorded at a live event in September 2021 and unfortunately was cut short by technical difficulties (it was the first episode we recorded so we're learning).  Diana Thorneycroft is a Winnipeg artist who has exhibited various bodies of work across the world and received numerous awards. Known for making art that frequently employs dark humour and hovers on the edge of public acceptance, Diana Thorneycroft has pursued subject matter that often challenges her viewing audience. Her first stop-motion animation short film Black Forest Sanatorium had it’s world premiere at the 2020 Vancouver International Film Festival.
