This book is technically about how entrepreneurs pitch investors and get them to say yes. But don’t let that fool you — it applies to anyone who’s ever had to get somebody on board with something. (It could be a presentation, a volunteer opportunity, or just a family trip.) Suneel Gupta went through the ringer learning how to pitch, and failed badly at first. But he figured out what actually works, and got really tactical about it. As long as you translate things to your areas of growth, there's some great content about leveling up mentally and emotionally, plus some counterintuitive ways to get a room engaged. I think anyone who gives any kind of presentation should hear these strategies.---Backable: The Surprising Truth Behind What Makes People Take a Chance on You: https://amzn.to/3Lxp1B7---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool. This is the final episode in the decision-making series, and it tackles a problem I hope you get to have more and more often: what do you do when all your options are good? We've spent this whole series trying to make fewer bad decisions, but at some point, if you keep at it, you end up looking at three or four genuinely great options and still feeling stuck. I'll walk through the hierarchy I use to tip the scales when nothing is obviously wrong — and why, if you take care of the big stuff first, you actually get permission to just pick what you want. That's a really beautiful place to live, and good decision-making is what gets you there.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. There's an acronym that has been life-changing for me, and it's cheesy, but it works: HAALT. It stands for Hungry, Angry, Anxious, Lonely, Tired. If you're in any of those states, don't make decisions of any significance. We can split hairs about why why make certain poor decisions, when sometimes the problem is just that you haven't eaten, or you're exhausted, or you're in the middle of your 7th day of a non-stop work trip. This acronym has impacted my marriage, my health, and my finances, and I'll share exactly how. Also, stick around till the end to hear about why I think insecurity is actually at the root of most of our worst choices.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. This episode digs into the part that might actually be the hardest: seeing clearly. What exactly does that mean? Whether we realize it or not, we are all biased, bent, and limited — sometimes even in areas we think we excel in. I'll walk through a few of the cognitive blind spots that quietly wreck our decisions, plus a set of lies we tell ourselves when things go wrong that stack on top of each other in ways that can be really destructive. It all begins with seeing clearly. And if you keep making bad decisions in a particular area of your life, it might not be your logic — it might be a bias you haven't compensated for yet. After this episode, you'll have a set of frameworks, some books and video recommendations, and action items you can use today.--- P.S.: If you like this podcast, you'll probably enjoy seeing Scott present live. I bought my kids some of the greatest Superman omnibuses because I found out they didn't even know who Lois Lane was. But reading through these again reminded me why these stories hit different. Two recommendations here: Absolute All-Star Superman, which asks "what if Superman knows he's about to die and has 12 things left to do?" It's moving in ways I didn't expect from a comic. And Superman: Red Son, which asks "what if the rocket landed in the USSR instead of Kansas?" As someone raised in the '80s where every bad guy was a communist, Superman as the champion of the Soviet Union felt almost violating. But the ending caught me completely off guard. If you want be more creative and think outside your box, fiction might be your missing superpower.---Superman: Red Son: https://amzn.to/3TJCeJjAll Star Superman: https://amzn.to/3lvUkSb---Sign up to have Scott email you a weekly idea, story or cool tool.
