Before Claire and I departed our beloved Narrm/Melbourne one of my best mates Markj aka Mr Soundfood organised a farewell party for us with me as the headliner! How could I refuse!! This is how he described me in the lead up to the gig: "Although he is from an inferior part of the Naki, he has still gone on to achieve some amazing things in the music industry. He’s one of the best radio presenters I’ve ever known, and it’s hard not to be annoying in that game. He played me an interview recently he did with a grumpy Goldie, and I was amazed at how well he handled it. He’s one of my favourite DJs. He taught me that it’s ok to mash genres and be brave with your selections. He’s introduced me to so much good music over the years, especially in the electro/indie realms. Think DFA records, Soulwax, Chk Chk Chk, Mylo and Rex The Dog. Over the last couple of years, Benet has been getting into his own productions, and I’ve been super impressed with how far he has come in such a short time. He’s one of my best friends, I consider him family. I’m even the Lord Father of his beautiful daughters! Sadly him and the Whanau are moving back to NZ next year, so I figured this would be a great way to musically honour him before they depart. He’ll perform a hybrid DJ/live set, along with myself on the pots, pans and filters."
Check out my love letter to Nirvana with this rework of 'Drain You'." Mad props, love and respect to Kurt, Dave and Krist for making such amazing music. Your sound is an integral part of my life and for that I am incredibly grateful. Like what I do? Flick me some cash yo!! https://ko-fi.com/drhitchcock

Dive into the year 2323 with the enthralling new synthwave track, "Disco Brutus (F.L.O.)". This cybernetic symphony is the latest track from the future's favourite humanoid Panda, Dr Hitchcock. Imprisoned in a hexagonal TARDIS-like enclosure, he fills the void with his sassy synthesizer sounds. Thrilling listeners across dimensions, his latest creation fervently echoes the rhythmic pulse of a future lost yet fondly remembered!?
Kerry's Birthday Party

Kerry's Birthday Party

My good friend Kerry asked if I could play her birthday party. Fresh off a banger of a gig at Obie's I thought "hells yeah!". The brief was upbeat party vibes so I played the likes of Justice, Bowie, Gameboy/Gamegirl, Haiku Hands, Soulwax, Uffie, Duck Sauce, The Rapture as well as one of my own towards the end. Party on yo!
Last Saturday I had the honour of playing tunes at my very old friend Obie's 40th birthday party. We've known each other since youth group days in the mid-90s and in fact I started DJing youth group discos a couple years after that. We're both quite different people in many ways these days but we still know how to party 🫠 Little did I know it but James Curd was headlining! This makes it the second time that I've played support for him, what a night!! This set features the latest from Terr, a funky wee number from DMX Krew, a Bowie remix, Kyle Watson smashing a kick drum, an Armand Van Helden remix of Uffie, a classic from Phoenix as well as one of my very own tunes, Disco Brutus (F.L.O.). Enjoy xox
Remember surfing the World Wide Web, downloading your first MP3, illegal warehouse raves, reaching for the lasers, Smart Drinks, Jolt Cola, and who could forget the brown acid... DON'T TOUCH THE BROWN ACID. "Return To Cyberia" is a musical homage to Douglas Rushkoff's 1994 book "Cyberia, Life in the Trenches of Hyperspace". In it he pictured a psychedelically connected Earth via Rave culture, Gaia and The Internet. Today things look much different but we still might be able to... Return to Cyberia. This recording of "Return To Cyberia" is a live recording for radio of 100% original music written, produced, mixed and performed by Benet Hitchcock aka Dr Hitchcock. After 25 years of DJing Dr Hitchcock, aka Benet Hitchcock, has released his first original song “Dark Lorde 8888”. A dark 303 acid bassline and spacious 808 drums drive the listener on, as melancholic keys from the Microfreak encourages them to look around. Before too long a distant voice shares what we’re really here to do. Dr Hitchcock describes his new track as a “Stumble-trip through the dark cyber valley on your way to the pixelated castle high up on the hill.” Over the years Dr Hitchcock has run indie dance club nights, such as the Mixtape Connection, launched underground Internet radio station 8K.NZ, programmed the airwaves for independent FM station RDU 98.5 and released the Ōtautahi (Christchurch) mix CD “This is NOT the Christchurch Sound – Vol. 1”. 2022 sees his first solo effort hitting the ones and zeros. The past seven years have been a little quiet on the music front due to his young family, but six months ago during preparation for the move from Ōtautahi to Narrm (Melbourne) he caught the synthesiser bug. “Dark Lorde 8888” is what he hopes will be the first of many songs to come. This is not the first time Dr H and Ben have played together. In 2007 they collaborated on the Electro Pussy Posse (EPP) track “Minor Enlightenment” which closed the “This is NOT the Christchurch Sound – Vol. 1” compilation. “Dark Lorde 8888 feat. Ben Johnson” by Dr Hitchcock is available on Bandcamp, Soundcloud and all the usual streaming platforms.
This is one of my first mixes since the big move to Naarm and is dedicated to Cuppo; a cute little cafe out the front of Brunswick West Workshop, a studio and co-working space. This set features songs mostly of a psychedelic groove and includes the likes of Tame Impala, Melody's Echo Chamber, Flyying Colours, Mod Con, Mermaidens, Jefferson Airplane, Bird Nest Roys, The Sundae Painters, Jeffrey Lewis & The Rain, The Seeds, The Lovin' Spoonful, Jimi Hendrix, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, and David Bowie.
This set has a real sense of rhythm and groove. The start relies on sophistication and attitude with beats and pieces bridging the middle. Harder beats come on after that with a real feel of that mid 2000’s Electroclash vibe. Towards the end Prog makes itself felt and the whole set is book-ended with some big 90s house. Can ya dig!? Listen in for the ear candy!
Kia ora! In these mad crazy times what else can you do but make a happy wee song that tries to bring people together. We ask all to help Ukraine anyway they can: https://war.ukraine.ua/support-ukraine/ Aroha nui, DJ Daisy & Dr Hitchcock
In this my latest show for 8K.NZ I mesh the world of Xmas, Indie and Hip-Hop. Who's got time for genres anyway ❤️‍🔥

In this my first DJ set for 2021 I'm continuing to play tunes in the same vibe as I did in 2020; there's plenty of Electro, House, Techno, Acid and Indie remixes.
Life begins at 40 so I celebrated my birthday in style at Smash Palace. Friends and whānau, new and old, braved the Ōtautahi cold for some funky beats, 80s steez and modern classics. Markj aka Mr Soundfood snuck in from Melbourne, Australia while the travel bubble was open and treated us to a truly Dr Hitchcock style set, Tom Cosm smashed the floor with some funky house and disco, Pinacolada Soundsystem brought the true 80s vibe to the night and I played what I usually do 😜; perks of being the birthday boy I guess.

Last Sunday I had a blast hanging with old friends and playing tunes at my 39th birthday party. The first half is rock, the second half electronic. It seems to be a bit of a trend at the mo.
