"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're starting our look at the Die Hard Franchise with "Die Hard," "Die Hard II," and "Die Hard with a Vengeance." For the first one, I look at who Bruce Willis was as a star before the film and how this shot him to stardom, why this is such a classic, and answer the question on whether or not it's a Christmas movie. For the second one, I get into why I like it, but also why I think it's a great action movie, but not a classic. Finally, for the third one, I get into why there was a delay between this and part 2, and why it was a departure from the first two.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're finishing our look at the Superman pre-DCEU films with Superman IV and Superman Returns. For the first one, I look at the history of it, how Cannon and Golan-Globus came to get this film, and what went wrong with their approach. Then with Superman Returns I look at the period between IV and this film, how comic books changed, and how this didn't do as well as Batman Begins, and why.

For the first one, I look at how this might be the best comic book film ever, and why it deserves that title. For part two, I look at both the "Lester cut" and the Donner cut, which one I prefer, and areas where I felt this one could've been better, regardless of whose cut it was.

With Ip Man 3, I look at the how the story continues from part 2, and how Mike Tyson is included. I also talk a bit about "Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy". With part 4 I look at how the series concludes, Donnie Yen's legacy as the hero, and how he developed the character over the four films. I also chat about Scott Adkins's part, and how his character as written was too one-note.

With the first film, I look at the volume of sequels that came out in 1989, and where this fit with those. Then I get into what played a role in this movie ultimately not working. With the second film, I get into my own personal history with it, and what I liked and didn't like, then I look at Star Trek's legacy as a whole. Where does it fit in this current ecosystem of fandoms and franchises?

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're continuing our look at the Star Trek original cast franchise with "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" and "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home." With the first film, I open with a short history of the blockbuster at that time, starting with "Jaws" in '75, and how Star Trek fit into that. I also get into the idea that the odd-numbered films are bad and the even-numbered ones good, and whether or not that holds up with part III. With the second film, I talk about how it wasn't originally one of my favorites, but how this viewing I really enjoyed it; I also look at how "End Game" follows some of its premise, and chat a little bit about the Challenger explosion that happened the same year this film was released.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're starting our look at the Star Trek original cast franchise with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn." In the first one, we open with a short history of how the show ended, and then its popularity grew, which led to making this film. From there I get into ways the film worked and ways it missed the mark. With the second one, I talk about how this is probably the best Trek film ever--at least it's my favorite.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're starting our look at the John Wick franchise. With part 1, I talk about where this ranks in my top action films of the 2010s, and get into what I liked and didn't like. Also, I touch on the strong imagery of a dog being killed in a film. For part 2, I look at the shift toward mainstream this film makes, ever so slightly. I also make the case for having dogs in movies just to be dogs, not saving the day or having super powers.

In this episode we're finishing our look at the Predator franchise with the three most recent films. With "Predators," I talk about the "cheek" of Robert Rodriguez to try and make this a sequel to the first Predator, when it's not as good as the real part 2. Then with "The Predator" I get into what went wrong with that one, and why it wasn't more successful. Finally, we finish with "Prey," which I really enjoyed.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're continuing our look at the Predator franchise with the two Alien vs. Predator films. With the first one, I talk about the gap in time between Predator films, and how this was a film Predator fans were waiting for, but maybe not so much Aliens fans. I also chat about Predators that aren't hunters, like engineers and anthropologists. For the second one, I talk about where this one might miss the mark from the first one, but despite the poor critic reception, still did well at the box office.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're continuing our look at the MCU Phase 2 with "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Ant-Man." Before that, I talk about the flop that was the 2015 "Fantastic Four" film. Then with "Avengers: Age of Ultron" I look at how that film compares with the first one, and how James Spader as Ultron's voice might be my favorite baddie so far. Finally, with "Ant-Man," I look at this as almost an after-thought film sandwiched between the Avengers film and the first film of Phase 3, "Captain America: Civil War," and then I further my thought from last week about how the MCU audience has aged out some, and how that affected the floor for movies like this going forward.

In this episode we're continuing our look at the MCU Phase 2 with "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "The Guardians of the Galaxy." Before that, I talk a bit about the last year of comic book movies, and where the genre might be going. Then with "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" I look at how that film compares with the first one, and also get into how the franchise is handing things over to Anthony Mackie. Finally, with "The Guardians of the Galaxy," I try to break down why the film was so successful, and how this film could be a template for future adaptations of lesser-known properties.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we're finishing our look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1, with "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "The Avengers." In the first segment, I go over the history of Captain America and previous adaptations, and how important this one was to the overall success of this first phase of the MCU. Then I looked "the Avengers," where the only precedent I could find was the Laff-a-Lympics. That inevitably leads me to a rant on "retconning" and "canon," which I blame for why we haven't gotten the X-Men in the MCU yet.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we're continuing our look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1, with "Iron Man 2" and "Thor." I pick up where we left off in 2008, and look at what happen in 2009 with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and the purchase of Marvel by Disney. From there I look at why "Iron Man 2" worked well, and also how it was unique as a sequel because it was not only working to further Iron Man's story, but also set up the events leading to "Avengers." And then with "Thor" I look at Thor as a Marvel hero, and how incredible I think it is that he's become this big. I also look at "X-Men: First Class," which came out that same year, and how Marvel Studios was able to make "Thor" into someone who could lead movies that were as big or bigger than X-Men films.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we're starting our look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1, with "Iron Man" and "Incredible Hulk." I start by going into the history of live action adaptations of Marvel comics, plus what DC was doing, and how that led to Marvel Studios creating their own films, of which Iron Man was the first. From there I'll get into what made Iron Man work so well, and how it would eventually lead to Marvel changing the game and coming out on top above DC. In the second segment, I look at the Incredible Hulk. I talk about the old TV show and the impact it had on me, also my own experience collecting comics, and why the Ang Lee one didn't work for me. And then I wrap the episode talking about why we haven't had another Hulk film, and the lessons I think Disney could learn from how 2008 was so successful, versus the relative lack of success they've had this year.
