On a rainy day interview, community leader Paulette Chaffee lays out a clear, action-driven vision for the Orange County Community College District: turn classrooms into career launchpads. Drawing on years beside public service and hands-on community work, she tells stories of students who need counseling, bus passes, and paid internships to bridge school and steady work.
Through Measure J renovations, targeted course expansion in cybersecurity, respiratory therapy, water management, and auto repair, and a push for grant-funded internship programs, Paulette paints a picture of practical hope for students earning while they learn and finding sustainable jobs. This episode follows her campaign promise of student success, workforce-ready training, and fiscal stewardship, inviting listeners into the grassroots effort to reshape local higher education.
Join host Andrew Gregson as Mayor Jose Medrano takes listeners on a personal journey from detective work on a human trafficking task force to eight years guiding La Habra’s city council. Along the way he shares the quiet, decisive moments that define local leadership: 28 years of neighborhood roots, late-night calls to grocery managers that launched senior shopping hours, and a social media habit that turned into a lifeline for small businesses.
Through candid stories, knocking on nearly two thousand doors, watching a broken fire hydrant get replaced in hours, and shepherding park restorations, Jose reveals how city decisions are made, why Measure V mattered for public safety, and how regional partnerships shape economic opportunity. This episode blends policy with humanity, showing how one leader balances resident needs, fiscal responsibility, and the realities of state mandates.
Whether you’re a La Habra neighbor or simply curious about city hall in action, this conversation is a compact, hopeful narrative about community, accountability, and why one mayor is asking for another four years to keep building what matters.

What happens when years of community involvement turn into an opportunity to help shape the city itself?
Buena Park District 2 Council Member Carlos Franco returns to ChamberTalk, this time as a sitting Councilmember after being elected in 2024 to complete the remaining two years of a vacated City Council term.
Carlos takes us back to some of the experiences that helped shape his path to City Hall, from working with local high school students and neighborhood cleanups to an overlooked parcel of land near City Hall that helped inspire the vision for Coyote Park.
We also talk about what changes when you go from advocating for ideas to actually having to govern. Carlos shares his perspective on balancing business, community needs and fiscal responsibility, how Measure R dollars are being considered, and why issues such as public safety, e-bikes, technology and infrastructure all connect back to quality of life.
For our business community, we discuss what Buena Park can do to attract and retain businesses, make City Hall easier to navigate, encourage investment and create an environment where local businesses can grow.
Now serving as the District 2 incumbent and seeking a full four-year term, Carlos also reflects on what he has learned during his first two years on Council, what he believes has moved forward, and what he still hopes to accomplish.
It is a conversation about the difference between campaigning and governing, listening to a community, and turning local ideas into practical action.

Jesus Silva joins Andrew Gregson on ChamberTalk to discuss his candidacy for Trustee Area 6 of the North Orange County Community College District. He talks about leaving accounting to become a teacher, working with students and families in Fullerton, and what he learned while serving on City Council and as mayor.

We also discuss financial literacy, entrepreneurship, childcare, and the responsibilities of a college trustee.
Jesus reflects on his parents’ sacrifices and how their experiences continue to shape his views on education. He also shares the moments when former students stop him in the community, reminding him of the lasting impact a teacher can have.
Could a U.S. citizen be detained by immigration authorities? What should a family do when someone is taken into custody? Is your business prepared if ICE arrives at the workplace?
In this extended episode of ChamberTalk, Andrew Gregson sits down with immigration attorney Lisa Ramirez, Esq., for a fascinating and candid conversation about the realities of America’s immigration system.
Lisa discusses cases involving U.S. citizens detained by immigration authorities and how she has worked to secure their release. She also takes listeners inside the detention process, explains the difficulties families can face when trying to locate someone in custody, and shares what individuals should do following an immigration arrest.
The conversation also explores:
• The case of Narciso Barranco, the father of three U.S. Marines
• What can happen inside immigration detention centers
• What families should do when a loved one is detained
• Form I-9 requirements and employer responsibilities
• How businesses can prepare and train employees for an ICE visit
• The difference between an I-9 audit, a workplace investigation, and an enforcement action
• Why businesses should establish procedures before immigration agents arrive
• The financial, legal, and emotional realities of navigating the immigration process
• Andrew’s own 23-year journey from arriving in America to becoming a U.S. citizen
This is not a political debate. It is an informative conversation about how the immigration system works, what happens when something goes wrong, and why individuals, families, and employers should understand their rights and responsibilities.
