The packaging industry plays a significant role in our daily lives, providing us with the products we need and ensuring their safe transport. However, the negative impact of packaging on the environment cannot be ignored. The production, use, and disposal of packaging materials contribute significantly to environmental degradation, including pollution, resource depletion, and climate change.
The packaging industry uses a vast amount of resources, including water, energy, and raw materials, to produce the packaging materials. These materials often come from non-renewable resources, such as oil and gas, and require a significant amount of energy to extract and process, leading to greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to climate change. Furthermore, the manufacturing process of packaging materials generates a significant amount of waste and pollution, including greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and air pollution.
After the products are packaged, the packaging material is often used only once before being disposed of, leading to significant waste and environmental damage. Many packaging materials, such as plastic, take hundreds of years to decompose, causing litter and damaging wildlife habitats. Moreover, the disposal of packaging materials often involves incineration or landfilling, leading to further environmental degradation, including air pollution, soil pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Yesss!!!! Welcome back my peoples.
We’re trying something new here…our first ONLINE episode recorded out my kitchen 🤣
Hope the audio quality and video quality is ok for you guys, I’m still learning a lot of this stuff.
I couldn’t have had a better guest to kick off the online recordings with, Anshuman is an absolute legend.
We had an incredibly wide ranging conversation on Climate.
Anshuman has an incredible career in tech before moving to Climate.
We covered why he moved to Climate, why this mission is important to him, and why he chose the mission of teaching 100 million people to work in Climate.
Anshuman has somewhat of a Birdseye view of the industry because he has his finger on who’s hiring, what they need, and how many they need…which gives him a very unique view on the industry.
I’ve spoken a tonne about why this mission is important, but I’ll say it again, getting people to work in Climate is THE biggest thing we can do.
If everyone stopped working for bad companies, they wouldn’t exist anymore.
And the more brainpower we have in impact companies the better.
We didn’t just talk about launching his business or the realities of running an online platform though.
We spoke about the geopolitics of climate, how adoption of climate-tech and sustainability changes across the world and MUCH MUCH more.
I hope you guys enjoy, this was an awesome convo.
Love!
Harry

Welcome back to Brave New Earth my peoples! On this episode, we sit down with the founder of Nuevo, Jax Davey. Jax is a truly incredible founder and leader, but more importantly one of the most genuine blokes I’ve ever sat down with. Jax joined the Marine’s out of school, but after taking a surveillance course to map out terrains for Marine exercises, he developed a passion for photography. Jax started using this new passion to take beautiful shots for local businesses, built up a bit of steam, and ended up selling that agency to Berkshire Hathaway aged only 25. Jax had realised that as a Marine, they could reach remote places and take beautiful brand images where your typical agency couldn’t. On these shoots, Jax had realised how BAD the advertising industry was for the planet. In fact, advertising emits 2X as much as Global Aviation…that’s mad!!! He decided to do something about it, and set up Nuevo…the world’s most purpose driven agency. Since, Nuevo has gone from height to height, and even won the investment of Stephen Bartlett’s Flight Story. After only 2 years, they have an incredible team of over 20 people. Who are all absolute rockstars. Hearing how proud Jax is of this team is truly heartwarming. This was an amazing conversation and a must watch for anyone wanting to build a purpose driven business. We spoke about: How Jax went from a Marine to 2x Founder and Agency Owner Why Advertising has 2x the Emissions of Global Aviation… And what we can do about it How Nuevo is building the world’s most purposeful agency Selling his first company to Berkshire Hathaway aged 25 Why creativity is key to hitting Net Zero Why showing Behind the Scenes of your brand will help you scale How to hire teams that will disrupt an industry Why Marine’s made incredible agency owners Really appreciate those of you that subscribe. Welcome back my peoples! BraveNewEarth returns with another Climate Tech legend.
Today...I was very nervous, and I have a confession to make. I love Chicken. I've tried to go Vegan many times, unsuccessfully.
I like Meat, and I don't like the Meat Alternative brands. Leo thinks he has the solution.
Yum Bug is an edible insects company, that really stands out from the market.
Most of the insect solutions on the market are powders, bars etc. So they're very difficult to actually integrate into your life at scale (they're also very expensive).
Yum Bug creates things like Mince and Strips which mimic the Meat we have today.
Its not super processed like many of the alternatives on the market, has more protein and nutrients than most of the meat we're used to on the diet.
I try it LIVE...and I was seriously impressed.
It really does taste pretty similar, and its way better for the planet.
And with population booming, and our diets increasing in quantity, could be the solution to the issues the meat industry creates.
Tune in to see how I get on.

He is best known for his solo and unsupported expeditions to the North and South Poles, and has set several world records for polar exploration.
Saunders began his career as an explorer in 2001, when he completed a 1,400-mile journey to the South Pole. This was the longest unsupported journey in history to that point, and he was just 24 years old at the time. He went on to set several more records, including the first solo and unsupported journey to the North Pole from Russia in 2004, and the longest unsupported polar journey in history, a 1,795-mile trek to the South Pole in 2010-2011.
One of his more notable expedition was The Scott Expedition in 2017-2018, Saunders embarked on a 1,795-mile journey to retrace the footsteps of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his team, who died on their return from the South Pole in 1912. Saunders completed the journey in 104 days, becoming the first person to retrace Scott's route and the longest solo unsupported journey in history.
Throughout his expeditions, Saunders has faced many challenges, including extreme cold, high winds, and treacherous ice conditions. He has also had to contend with the mental and emotional toll of being alone in such extreme environments for extended periods of time. Despite these challenges, Saunders has persevered, and his accomplishments are a testament to his determination and resilience.
In addition, Saunders has been a brand ambassador for several companies, including Canada Goose and Land Rover.
Saunders is also actively working on ways to address the environmental challenges facing the planet. He is raising a climate tech fund, focused on investing in and supporting companies that are working on innovative solutions to combat climate change. He is passionate about using his platform and experiences to raise awareness and inspire action on the urgent issue of climate change.
Overall, Ben Saunders is a true leader and an inspiration to many. His expeditions and speeches have been an inspiration to many, and his efforts to raise awareness and address the challenges facing our planet, make him an admirable figure in the world of exploration and environment.

Welcome back my peoples! BraveNewEarth is back with another Climate Tech rockstar.
This episode, we talk about an incredible solution to the challenges we face in our agricultural systems - Vertical Farming! In this episode, we're diving into the environmental issues caused by the agricultural sector today and how vertical farming solutions can help tackle them.
Agriculture accounts for roughly 24% of global greenhouse gas emissions - more than the entire transportation sector. And with the world's population projected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, the pressure on our traditional farming methods is only going to increase. Vertical farming may just be the solution we've been looking for. By growing crops indoors using LED lighting and hydroponic systems, vertical farms use significantly less water and pesticides compared to traditional farming methods. Plus, they don't require the use of land and can produce crops year-round.
Some estimates suggest that vertical farms could produce up to 30 times the yield per square foot compared to traditional farming methods. And with vertical farms able to be located closer to urban areas, it would also reduce the carbon footprint of transporting produce.
In this episode, I'm hugely honoured to be joined by the founder of Babylon Microfarms. Babylon Microfarms is a company that specializes in vertical farming technology. The company was founded by Alex Olesen. The company's mission is to make fresh, healthy, and sustainable produce available to everyone, everywhere by using vertical farming technology. Babylon Microfarms focuses on creating vertical farm systems that are easy to use, scalable and affordable. Their technology can grow up to 10 times more produce per square foot than traditional farming methods, using 95% less water and no pesticides. They also claim that their technology can be used to grow a wide variety of crops, and can be used in both urban and rural areas.
Vertical farming may just be the key to feeding a growing population while also reducing our impact on the environment. Be sure to like, comment and subscribe for more episodes on Climate Tech Businesses and other innovative solutions to tackle climate change. Thanks for listening!

Yes! Welcome back to Brave New Earth my peoples :)
This week’s was a little crazy - proper futuristic stuff.
We all know mining is terrible for the planet, but we also know we need critical metals in the green transition.
Turns out theres a bunch of these metals sitting on the deep ocean sea bed, but picking them up and extracting them without harming biodiversity is near on impossible.
The was until Impossible Metals who have created next level SciFi autonomous robots that do Selective Harvesting of Pollymetalic Modules, picking up rare materials in rocks one by one without disturbing natural habitats.
Insane
Such a cool piece of tech for such a huge market.
Tune in, the episode was crazy.
We spoke about:
What is selective harvesting and how will it contribute to the green transition
What is responsible mining
What are critical metals and why are they key for the Green Transition
What are Polymetallic Modules
Creating autonomous underwater robotic materials
Creating a more sustainable extraction
The metals we need to get to a zero carbon economy
Why the current mining supply chain is seriously unethical
The role of Artificial Intelligence in Deep Sea Mining
How do we survey the ocean
How to take care of the underwater habitats when we don’t know what they are
How to extract mineral in an environmentally friendly way
Getting strategic investors onboard
Hope you enjoy!
Love,
H
Mining can have a significant negative impact on the environment and the planet in several ways. Some of the reasons why mining is considered harmful to the planet include:
Deforestation: Mining can involve clearing large areas of land, which can lead to deforestation and loss of wildlife habitats.
Soil erosion: Mining can cause soil erosion and the degradation of soil quality, which can lead to long-term damage to the land.
Water pollution: Mining can release harmful chemicals and pollutants into nearby water sources, which can lead to the contamination of aquatic ecosystems and harm wildlife.
Air pollution: Mining activities can generate dust, particulate matter, and other air pollutants that can harm human health and contribute to climate change.
Greenhouse gas emissions: Mining and processing minerals can also result in significant greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to global warming and climate change.
Overall, mining can have a range of negative impacts on the environment and the planet. However, it is important to note that mining is often necessary to obtain the minerals and resources that are essential for modern society. Therefore, efforts are being made to minimize the environmental impact of mining through improved practices and technologies, such as reducing energy consumption, using renewable energy sources, and adopting sustainable mining practices.
Metals from the deep sea, such as copper, nickel, cobalt, and rare earth elements, are essential for the production of many green technologies, including electric cars, wind turbines, solar panels, and batteries. These metals are used in the production of key components of these technologies, such as motors, generators, wiring, and batteries.
The demand for these metals is expected to increase dramatically in the coming years as the world transitions to a low-carbon economy and expands renewable energy and electric vehicle infrastructure. However, traditional sources of these metals, such as mines on land, are becoming more difficult and expensive to access, leading to increased interest in deep-sea mining.
Deep-sea mining offers a potential source of these critical metals that is not subject to the same geopolitical and environmental risks as traditional mining. In addition, deep-sea mining has the potential to provide a secure, stable supply of these metals, which is essential for the transition to a green economy.

A special episode today - with returning guest Nadav.
Since last time, Nadav has created a very excited accelerator programme in Israel called Climate First - where I am a mentor.
Its a really cool programme so I though I'd get him on to discuss it and launch the programme here.
There's a tonne to learn about the sectors he's working on, why he picked Israel, and how he's going to help founders in his portfolio scale.
Hope you enjoy!
Harry
In this podcast episode, we had the opportunity to chat with Nadav, the founder of Climate First, a venture capital accelerator that invests in early-stage companies focused on developing solutions to address climate change. Nadav shared with us his passion for investing in sustainable technologies and businesses, not just for their potential financial returns but also for their positive impact on the environment and society.
During the conversation, Nadav talked about Climate First's investment philosophy, which is centered on the belief that climate solutions require more than just technological innovation; they must also include social and economic solutions that are equitable and inclusive. He also shared some of the exciting companies they have invested in across various sectors, including renewable energy, transportation, and agriculture.
We discussed the urgency of addressing climate change and the significant economic opportunities that exist in sustainable investments. Nadav emphasized that investing in sustainable businesses is not just a moral imperative but also makes financial sense. He also shared his vision for the future, where sustainable investments are the norm, and businesses are held accountable for their environmental impact.
Overall, this episode offers an insightful conversation on the importance of sustainable investments and the role that venture capital can play in addressing climate change. If you're interested in learning more about Climate First and their approach to investing in sustainable technologies and businesses, this podcast episode is a must-listen.
What is an accelerator?
A startup accelerator, also known as a startup incubator, is a program designed to help early-stage startups grow and succeed. Accelerators typically provide resources, mentorship, and funding to startups over a set period of time, usually between three and six months.
The program is designed to provide a structured environment that allows startups to develop their ideas, build a prototype, test their product, and acquire customers. Startups usually work in a collaborative space alongside other startups in the accelerator, and they receive guidance and support from mentors and industry experts.
In exchange for their support, accelerators typically take an equity stake in the startup, which ranges from 5% to 10% of the company. This provides the accelerator with a financial incentive to help the startup succeed.
Startup accelerators are often run by experienced entrepreneurs or venture capitalists who have a successful track record of launching and scaling startups. The goal of the accelerator is to help startups accelerate their growth and increase their chances of success in the marketplace.
The goal of climate technology is to develop and implement innovative technologies that help mitigate the impacts of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
Climate technology encompasses a wide range of solutions across various sectors, such as transportation, agriculture, energy, buildings, and industry. These technologies include renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydro power, energy-efficient buildings and appliances, electric vehicles, carbon capture and storage, and sustainable agriculture practices, among others.

She deeply cares about this issue and is doing incredible work trying to fix it.
Carbon Equity is a fund of fund that democratises Climate-Investment.
Basically what the means is it allows normal investors - who are typically excluded from VC opportunities - to invest alongside experts.
This gives them exposure to Climate-Tech VC returns, and brings more capital into the ecosystem for Climate-Technology.
Important mission and a great time.
In this episode we spoke about:
Why most people can’t invest in Venture Capital
What is a Fund of Funds
Why VC is a Power Law Game
Why more people should be able to get involved with the upside of the Green Opportunity
How get people emotionally invested in Climate Change
How diversification leads to less risk
What are the biggest industries in climate
A positive future vision for the climate
What are the people who wear Goat Wool Socks?
Why Climate is one of the fastest
Why Leo and Downey Junior having Climate Funds is important
Do activists have a role to play in the Climate narrative
What are the most exciting sectors in climate?
Are climate markets winner takes all?
Hope you all enjoy!!!
Love,
Harry

Today, we’re back with another Climate-Tech rockstar, Louise Parlons Bentata the founder of Bluemethane.
Bluemethane is fighting climate change by capturing methane from water to create a new source of bio-power.
Did you know how much methane was in water? No, me neither. Nor did I realise it could be used to generate electricity.
Methane’s ability to hold heat in the atmosphere is 85x Carbon’s - mind blowing.
In this pod we talk about:
What form of Methane has water?
Why did everyone focus on Carbon not Methane?
Why you need to think about the biases you don’t know you hold
How Louise launched a business without meeting her founder in person
The importance of hiring kind people
How to innovate in financial markets and create a market for yourself
This is a really incredible company that has a huge potential.
I loved how humble and caring Louise was. I have no doubt this business will do brilliant things.
