The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there will be no end." But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?" And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God." Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.

When Mary appeared to Juan Diego, the poor but devout native of Mexico, she was desiring to answer the cries of all the poor, lost and suffering. The incredible visitation was not just for him. She called the poorest of men to be her messenger of compassion and love, asking him to demand of the Bishop the building of a great sanctuary where all her children might see her compassionate gaze and know that she as a Mother heard the cries of her children. Through Juan Diego the Americas have received a great gift, an image impressed by Heaven on this humble man’s tilma. This image is a gift from Heaven for all of us. It is Heaven reminding us we have a Mother who loves and cares for us, a mother who hears our cries and comes to comfort us and bring us to her Son, Jesus. This image Divinely imprinted can be seen today. It is a glimpse into God’s desires for us to know that He has given us a Mother, a Mother that will bring us so lovingly to Himself. An incredible attribute of this image is that within it, we see a pregnant Mother. Miraculously it was found even to have two heart beats, that of Mary and the little child Jesus. This gift from heaven reminds us that Mary always brings her Son to us. We do not worship Mary but we entrust ourselves to her knowing that it is her greatest joy to bring us to her son. As we pray this rosary, let us place ourselves in her hands and in the rhythm of her heartbeat. Let us bring all our sorrows, our joys, our fears, our sinfulness and allow her to fill us with her Motherly love. As you pray this Rosary, remember her words to poor Juan Diego and hear them for yourself. "Listen and understand, my humblest son. There is nothing to frighten and distress you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and let nothing upset you. Is it not I, your Mother, who is here? Are you not under my protection?” Let us now pray, the Holy Rosary. Pray the Joyful Mysteries.

This chant is the communion antiphon for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. (Ps 147:20) He has not done thus for any other nation; His ordinances he has not made known to them.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose, make intercession for the Holy Church, protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities, and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary, and Mother of the True God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith, of sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, of burning charity, and the precious gift of final perseverance.   Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, that in thy celestial apparitions on the mount of Tepeyac, thou didst promise to show thy compassion and pity towards all who, loving and trusting thee, seek thy help and call upon thee in their necessities and afflictions.   Thou didst promise to hearken to our supplications, to dry our tears and to give us consolation and relief. Never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, either for the common welfare, or in personal anxieties, was left unaided.   Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Mary, ever Virgin Mother of the True God! Though grieving under the weight of our sins, we come to prostrate ourselves in thy august presence, certain that thou wilt deign to fulfill thy merciful promises. We are full of hope that, standing beneath thy shadow and protection, nothing will trouble or afflict us, nor need we fear illness, or misfortune, or any other sorrow.   Thou hast decided to remain with us through thy admirable image, thou who art our Mother, our health and our life. Placing ourselves beneath thy maternal gaze and having recourse to thee in all our necessities we need do nothing more. O Holy Mother of God, despise not our petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer us.   Five Hail Marys in gratitude for the four apparitions to Juan Diego and the one to Juan Bernardino.
