Description

Our culture is in crisis and I don’t trust woke universities and authoritarian governments to give us the solution. I examine modern culture through history and anthropology, as well as other sources like indigenous knowledge and common sense. This is a show for those who love academics but hate academia, and want to learn about social studies without the constraining limits of woke universities. My friend and I discuss our experiences during a bear hunt. They discuss the camaraderie and community aspects of hunting, the reasons people hunt, challenges faced during the hunt, and the enjoyment they derive from the outdoor activity. We also touch on human evolution and the role of hunting in it, as well as the public land advocacy group that Strollo is involved in, BHA (Backcountry Hunters and Anglers).https://www.backcountryhunters.org/pennsylvaniaDiscord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholar Audio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw

Me and my friend Ben, an American Jew, sit down to discuss Israel Palestine. We discuss the violence, extremist factions on both sides, the practical result vs motive. We talk about civilian casualties, collateral, and what makes violence acceptable. We talk about the implications of diverse peoples existing in one country (United States or Israel, or any other). We discuss the rhetoric of violence at college campuses and amongst public figures. Not a normal episode. Feel mixed about even releasing it, but I felt this chaos of an episode was good for the chaos of the situation. Decisions made on emotion are usually not the right ones. Don't be pushed to violence. Discord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholar Audio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw

042 - Stone Age Herbalist

2023-09-1202:02:201

This episode is with the great Stone Age Herbalist. Very excited to have him here.Buy his book here, I HIGHLY recommend: https://amzn.to/3ZgpnALSubstack: https://stoneageherbalist.substack.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/Paracelsus1092We discuss an introduction of Stone Age Herbalist, or Herb's, book. I go over what some of the essays are. We discuss how Anthropology and Archaeology differ in Europe and North America. We talk about old anthropological methods. We talk about where anthropology went wrong and what happened WWII and after-WWII did to create this scenario. We discuss the specifics of WEIRD. We discuss issues with anthropology today and what people like Stone Age Herbalist and I do differently and the methods we use. We discuss non-free people and the institutions around them and the anthropological position on the prominence of the Trans-Atlantic. We discuss 60s Anthropology and the noble savage trope with related issues. We discuss misunderstandings of people's practices and a few specifics of primitive societies. We discuss the consent of one modern path to success when ancient peoples had many and its relation to patriarchy and matriarchy. We discuss pastoralism, agriculture, how cultures can switch between them and utilize new foreign technology within their culture.  We discuss the likely lost civilizations in the Amazon and the archaeological methods used to find their artifacts and the implications for our understanding of people moving between vastly different methods of subsistence. We discuss uncontacted tribes and how they are really contacted and just have the "do not disturb" sign up. Discord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholar Audio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw
We have a woman on the show for a first time. DEI score officially going up. Loved this conversation with Brooke. She recently left a corporate job and is moving towards entrepreneurial pursuits. We discussed a few things including corporate culture and its positives and negatives. We talked about her journey leaving corporate culture and what she plans on doing now with the experience and connections she has. She has a unique perspective and a way with people and I probably talked too much, should have let her talk more. We will hear from her again!Discord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholar Audio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw
In this episode I speak about the influences of Globalism in general and a few aspects of life and culture that globalism permeates, like language. We discuss globalism and its relation to architecture and how architecture is metaphoric of greater shifts in our culture happening as a result of globalization. The positives of globalization in architecture, business, and non-places of utility is discussed (airports, hospitals, McDonald's). Those are then countered with the negatives, such as a lack of local influence, soul-crushing efficiency, and one-size-fits-all approach. A discussion about what values go into these decisions is had, and then we finish with a discussion of examples of globalism and international business being a part of local architecture through McDonald's Restaurants and how that shows what we can do as a species into the future for a culture built for humans. Discord: https://discord.gg/KhJgpMj6JjPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/IllegitimateScholar Audio Podcast: https://pod.link/1650280020 Twitter.com: https://twitter.com/ill_scholarYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRH77S0fVLmAZU4xLnAxuvw

We discuss this within the context of shifting foreign influence in the nations of the area, and varying levels of regional authority.
