You know, I was going to start doing this podcast some time ago, early on in the run-up to the 2022 midterms. Life got in the way, as it often does, and now I find myself writing this statement on Sunday November 6th, just 2 days from the election. I procrastinated so long that now, I don’t know exactly how to proceed with the subject of this podcast. On one hand, if the Democrats retain control of the House and Senate, then I can go on with how the government should handle things like restoring a woman’s right to choose, voting rights and the absolutely critical indictment and prosecution of Mango Mussolini. I can talk about how we Gen-xers are partly to blame for Trump’s presidency because we all grew up in the time of The Ramones and Elvis Costello living through Reagan and Bush and we became staunchly anti-establishment, and when Bill Clinton turned out to be just another politician and W. Bush sent us into a war that made no sense we swore to shake up the system and vote for “the other guy” until the other guy was Barack Obama and then the racist wing of Gen-x got mad and conspired with the Evangelical Religious Right and the Russian propaganda machine to swing the pendulum the other way and Trump came along and he was a convergence of all the bad things that Barack Obama wasn’t and he wasn’t another career politician like Hillary Clinton who was being vilified by conspiracy theories and misogyny and white nationalist he-man-woman-haters voted for Trump and just enough moderate dems were just skeptical enough about Hillary’s honesty to want to vote the other way - or worse yet, vote for Jill Stein who was just a plant by Russia to pull votes away from Hillary, let’s be honest - that the Electoral College, that most outdated of all of our election systems, barely eeked out a victory for Hairplug Hitler.On the other hand, if Conservatives take control of just the house, there will be impeachment votes every week for the next two years. The January 6th committee will be dissolved and each member who sat on it will be “investigated.” There will be votes to ban gay marriage, interracial marriage, create a national ban on a woman’s right to choose medical treatment for her own body. Anything but real solutions for the American people.If Republicans take the Senate, there will once again be complete gridlock in government. That pile of bills that sat on Mitch McConnel’s desk will need its own wing. Unless you count the “National Abortion Ban” that Lindsey Graham is proposing - what does he care? He’s not gonna get a woman pregnant ever in his life. That would be icky! Or Russia Ron Johnson who wants to take away Social Security and Medicare: programs we, the American workers, have been paying into our whole careers!If Republicans manage to win control of both houses of congress …. Well, who knows how long I’ll be able to even do this podcast before I get shut down for “speaking out against the government.”Whatever happens … whatever the outcome of Tuesday’s election, I’ll know that I did my part. I voted early in my state and I voted blue on the entire ballot. So did my wife. Hopefully, if and when you are hearing this, you can say that you voted too. That you did what you could to save democracy. We tried.I will do this podcast no matter the outcome and speak out against whatever comes along that deserves it for as long as I am able.
