Companies that want to succeed in today's fast-paced business world must be prepared to invest in innovation continuously. This investment requires patience, perseverance, and resources, but it can result in a sustainable competitive advantage. One very important question is when a company should invest in innovation? at what stage? In this episode I answer this question using the S-curve innovation lifecycle and go through several failure and success stories of investing in innovation at different stages and time.
Back in the 1950s, instant mixing technologies had reached new heights, and dry food mixes were filling store shelves. Cake mixes were seen as a great product to target busy homemakers, and food production companies rushed to make huge amounts of cake mixes with a vast variety of tastes and textures.  However, despite big TV ads and commercials, the sales of instant cake powders weren't as good as expected. So there was no choice but to  come up with the best possible solution. As a result, a group of psychologists were asked to help. In this episode of Innovation Factory podcast, We will explore the details of this story  and find out what happened next. So stay tuned! There are a lot of factors that contribute to this difficulty. In this episode of Innovation Factory, I take a look at why it is so important for leaders to be able to both look back and consider the products and processes made in the past, while also looking ahead and preparing for the innovations that will shape the future. I also talk about how companies like Kodak that don't adapt to the ever-changing world can quickly become outdated and how having the right balance between exploration and exploitation can be the key to staying ahead of the competition. Years ago, I learned from one of my mentors an interesting formula for creating successful innovative solutions and products. It is a simple formula in which the ratio of two important forces is evaluated. Based on the output from the evaluation of these two forces, we can make meaningful decision about a product, service or even a single feature. In this episode I talk about this magic formula and try to give a new and better version of it! Let's connect on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sohailabbasi/
