In our talk, we confront the pressing issues of ageism and racial disparities in education, focusing on the empowerment of students from diverse backgrounds through homeschooling and unschooling. Together, we uncover the impact of a curriculum primarily designed from one perspective and the stark disparities in expectations faced by students from diverse backgrounds compared to their peers. Our conversation transcends the boundaries of the education system, venturing into the broader realm of discrimination and oppression faced by diverse communities in various countries. Erika shares powerful stories of unjust treatment encountered while homeschooling and traveling. We also explore the insidious influence of ageism on students from diverse backgrounds, illustrating how it leads to dehumanization in everyday situations. Our episode underlines the significance of privilege not as a divisive force but as a tool for uplifting students who face injustice. Education and communication are emphasized as key tools in ensuring that our actions are not taken for granted. In a historical context, we scrutinize the role of economic systems, specifically the consequences of industrialization and monetization on education. Meet Mark Lupescu, also known as Mark Lupan - a celebrated handpan maker and player known worldwide for his beautiful Lupan Handpans.Have you ever tried the handpan or just listened to it? For me, it was love at first sight. The first time I tried one, I knew there was no going back. We were on La Palma, and a friend had borrowed a handpan and wanted us to try it. Three months later, my first handpan arrived. The peace it gives, the sound, the learning journey of getting to know the instrument and getting better. What a joy.Our love has kept growing. We have created an online platform where people can learn to play the handpan, and while shooting a video on how the handpan is built, we met, Mark Lupescu; he is so fantastic and inspiring that we wanted to show more of him to the world. So please enjoy our interview with Mark Lupescu, creator of the Lupan Handpans. About MarkMark Petersberger Lupescu is a professional musician and harp maker who moved to Barcelona, Spain, in 2008, where he discovered handpans and integrated them into his music. In 2013 Mark started his journey of building handpans. He learned the art of tuning steel thanks to the guidance of master tuner Darren Dyke and as a result of many hours of hammering where he developed his own technique. Having played these instruments in different situations (concert hall, yoga room, open space), he knows which qualities to search for in a handpan: stable and equilibrated note fields, nice timbre, good sustain, and pleasant overtones. As a perfectionist, he is always seeking to improve these qualities.Learn more:https://www.lupanhandpans.com/https://www.youtube.com/c/lupanhandpanshttps://www.instagram.com/lupan_handpans/https://www.facebook.com/lupanhandpans/🗓️ Recorded June 29th, 2021. 📍Barcelona, SpainThis video is edited by our dear friend Matej Michalec, a fellow traveler whom we met in Istanbul. What if the traditional education system is doing more harm than good? In our conversation with Summer Jean, a 34-year-old grown unschooler, we explore her unique upbringing and how it has shaped her life. Raised by a mother who trusted her children's innate ability to learn without any required academia, Summer Jean and her three brothers grew up free from workbooks, curriculums, and traditional school settings.Throughout our discussion, we examine the differences between world schooling and unschooling, as well as the pressures and fears that unschooled children might face from family members who expect them to conform to conventional education systems. We also delve into the hypocrisy of traditional education, which trains children not to make their own choices for 12 years, only to expect them to have it all figured out by the time they turn 18.Join us as we uncover the impact of unschooling on Summer Jean's life, highlighting the importance of trusting your children's innate ability to learn, encouraging independence, and fostering an environment where they can thrive. Discover how unschooling can lead to a life full of critical thinking, personal growth, and self-discovery, and challenge your beliefs and understandings around traditional education systems.🗓️ Recorded May 10th, 2023. 📍Chateau de L'Isle Marie, Normandy, FranceEPISODE LINKShttps://www.facebook.com/Thisbeautifullivingfreedomhttps://www.patreon.com/summerjean https://www.instagram.com/mermaidartglass OUTLINEHere’s the timestamps for the episode.
