YYC Soccer is a podcast that covers soccer at all levels in the Calgary area.  We discuss the amateur, collegiate, and professional levels.  We talk about the teams and players from the city's soccer community, from the grassroots to the pros.

This week Jason and Scott discuss the Canadian Futsal Championships. The men's and women's tournaments are being held at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut’ina Nation just west of Calgary.  We also talk about a few more League One Alberta signings an provide another Cavalry FC update as they are close to wrapping up training camp. 
On Good Friday, we talk about Cavalry's training camp in Mexico and some trialists looking to make the roster.  We also review Calgarians playing soccer in Poland, New Zealand, Victoria, Thunder Bay and more.  We look at some League One Alberta signings and also talk about a couple of Calgarians who have been called to Canada’s women’s U20 camp in Germany.
 For our first anniversary episode, we discuss what we think were the top 5 Calgary soccer stories over the last 12 months.  The stories include Cavalry FC, Mount Royal University, League One Alberta, Mya Jones and SAIT.  We also discuss the topics and players we expect will be mentioned a lot in future episodes this year. 
Our feature interview this week is with Cavalry FC defender Bradley Kamden Fewo.  We talk with him about Cavalry's recent matches vs Orlando and his career path in general.  We discuss the hiring of Jay Wheeldon as Cavs technical director and assistant coach.  Scott provides more information about his upcoming book about Calgary soccer history titled "Here Come the Cavalry!" which is coming soon to a bookstore near you.
We review the Cavs debut in the CONCACAF Champions Cup where they faced Orlando City in Victoria.  We also preview the second leg that will be played in Orlando.  We also talk about Canada men's U20 team and its Calgary connection and there were 5 players with Calgary connections announced for the next MNT match in March.
We chat with Calgarian Mya Jones as she settles into her first pro training camp in San Diego. She talks about transitioning to the pro level, her hopes to play on the Canadian national team and what it's like to train with Alex Morgan.  Other topics include a few Cavalry FC roster updates, discussing local players on national youth teams and an attempted mutiny at a local minor soccer club.
There's a lot of Calgary soccer news to talk about since our last episode.  Long time Calgary coach Leon Hapgood has accepted a position with NYCFC in MLS.   We discuss his legacy and speculate who could replace him at Cavalry FC.  We also discuss the Cavs preliminary roster for their CONCACAF games.  We provide updates about Calgarians signing their first pro deals including Grace Stordy and Caleigh Boeckx and also talk about the Canada WU17 team.
We're back for our first episode of 2024. Our feature interview this week is with Niko Myroniuk, who had a busy 2023 with Cavalry FC, Mount Royal University and the Canadian national futsal team. We also discuss Mya Jones being selected in the NWSL draft by San Diego and review some of the offseason roster moves made by Cavalry FC.
We talk about the results of the CONCACAF Champions Cup draw which saw the Cavs paired with Orlando City from MLS.  The Cavs home match in that tie will not be played at Spruce Meadows but in Victoria.   We chat with Mason Trafford from the Cavs front office about the reasons this decision was made.  The CanPL draft also happened this week and we review the Cavs two picks.   We wrap up the episode talking about former Cav Mo Farsi winning MLS Cup.   Happy Holidays and we'll be back with new episodes in the New Year!
This week we provide updates on Calgarians playing soccer around the world from Memphis to Jamaica to Portugal and Senegal.  We chat with Calgary Blizzard executive director Jackie Martin about the Shouldice dome project which has started its second year of operation.  Jason and Scott also speculate on Calgarians that could be picked in the CanPL draft and who the Cavs may face in CONCACAF Champions Cup in February.
We wrap up the Canadian post-secondary soccer season with a recap of how the Mount Royal Cougars men's team did at USports Nationals and the SAIT Cougars women's team did at CCAA Nationals.  The University of Memphis Tigers women's team and their Calgary contingent continue to roll in the NCAA tournament.  How are Calgarians such as Victor Loturi, Dominick Zator and Caniggia Elva doing in Europe?  We provide a mid-season update.    
We talk a lot of university soccer this week, with the focus being Mount Royal University's historic Canada West triumph.  The Cougars are the first Calgary based team to win the title since the Dinos did in 1980.  We interview head coach Ryan Gyaki and forward David Schaefer as they discuss the final and the U Sports championship tournament this week.  The SAIT Trojans womens team is at Nationals this week and a bunch of Calgarians are involved in the NCAA women's soccer championship tournament.  
 We discuss Cavalry's loss to Forge in the CanPL championship final and look ahead to the CONCACAF Champions Cup draw.   The Wheeldon Trifecta is now complete!  This week we interview Tommy Wheeldon Sr about his time in Calgary with the Storm and Blizzard and what he thinks of Cavalry FC.   There's also a lot of MRU, Dinos and SAIT playoff soccer to review.  We provide some updates from the NCAA regarding the Calgarians playing for the University of Memphis and the University of Maine. 
The Cavs are in the CanPL final this weekend and we preview the matchup vs Forge with Daan Klomp.  Just a couple hours after we recorded this interview, he won CPL Player of the Year and Defender of the Year.  We also chat with Meaghan Wiebe who has been setting goal scoring records with SAIT this year.  Five local school teams are in the playoffs this weekend and we discuss their respective playoff matches.
This week we chat about the Cavs playoff loss against Forge and look ahead to this weekend's matchup against Pacific. We have two interviews this week. Both guests are Calgarians who have scored a lot of goals for their respective teams this year.  Anna Hauer is in her freshman year at the University of Memphis.  Recently she was ranked as the 18th best freshman player in the NCAA. We ask her about playing at the Division 1 level and why she loves going 1 v 1 against defenders.  Grace Mwasalla was having a fantastic year in League 1 Alberta with St. Albert and then with MacEwen University.  However, her season was cut short by a knee injury.  We ask her about her season and get an update on her surgery status and rehab.   
This week, we preview Cavalry FC's playoff match vs Forge FC.  We also talk about last weekend's match and trophy lift celebration.  Comments from Marco Carducci and Tommy Wheeldon Jr from the post-match press conference are included.  Other topics include SAIT, USports, and Calgary West United, who took home 2nd place at U17 Nationals last week.
This episode covers a wide variety of Calgary soccer topics.  We start the week by paying tribute to John Fisher, who was a fixture in the Calgary soccer scene for many years.  Other topics include include Cavalry FC, SAIT and U Sports,  the National U17 championships and the MNT roster.  Our feature interview is with Calgarian Adam Huskic, who has spent the last year in Europe and currently plays for Pargas IF in the Finnish 3rd division.
This week we chat with Charlie Trafford about the Cavs cliniching their first trophy.  Topics include how the team found out en route to Calgary, how his career has come full circle, and what this means for the Cavs and soccer in Calgary.  Our U Sports update discusses the big matchup last weekend between UBC and MRU in the men's division.  We also look ahead to this weekend's clash between SAIT and Lethbridge College, who are both ranked in the Top 10 nationally on the women's side.
This week we interview Calgarian Sebastian Dzikowski, who leads U Sports men's soccer with 12 goals for UBC this season.  We also do our Cavalry FC review and update how they could clinich first place this weekend.  Our now weekly update of U21 minutes and a recap of U Sports and ACAC are also included.
We talk about the final two matches of the Cavs' road trip and look ahead to their final four matches of the regular season.  The Cavs U21 minute review is back for another installment.  We catch up with what's been happening in U Sports, ACAC, and the NCAA.
