On this week’s episode of GXM, we sit down with Erased Tapes artist Peter Broderick to discuss his latest project, Ode to Final Fantasy, a tribute album that celebrates his favourite tracks from the Final Fantasy video games. Broderick’s own music origin story began with the Final Fantasy series. As a child, he was obsessed with Final Fantasy VII. His mother, the poet Selah Broderick, promised she’d gift him a PlayStation if he practiced the violin for 100 days in a row. An eager young Broderick took his mother up on this offer, and as he improved on the violin, he was given the PlayStation as promised. In his own words, “I learned to play music because of my drive to play video games”.Released under the moniker The White Mages, Peter explains the origin story behind this album and what makes the music in Final Fantasy so special. Make sure you give it a listen because it’s an incredible album. You can support the release on Bandcamp.––––––––––––––––––––––Whether you work in the music or games industries or simply enjoy video game music and want to learn more about this area of interest, make sure to give us a listen……and HIT SUBSCRIBE if you enjoy! We're GXM (Games X Music), a fortnightly podcast exploring video game music and the intersection of video games and the music industry. The last few years have seen a record number of music collaborations take place between game studios and the music industry, from massive virtual concerts on platforms like Fortnite and Roblox to a growing number of artists like Marshmello and Imagine Dragons setting up their own game studios. But where is the industry heading next?In this episode of GXM, Mat speaks to JP Kellams, former lead producer on Fortnite Festival at Epic Games. They discuss the evolution of music in games, from Fortnite Festival and blockbuster virtual concerts to the resurgence of rhythm games and the future of interactive music experiences. We explore why today's biggest in-game concerts aren't sustainable, the music licensing challenges holding the industry back, the game knowledge barriers facing the music industry, and why the next generation of music experiences in video games will be built around long-term fan engagement rather than one-off events.Enjoy!--------------------------------------------------------------------Whether you work in the music or games industries or simply enjoy video game music and want to learn more about this area of interest, make sure to give us a listen……and HIT SUBSCRIBE if you enjoy! We're GXM (Games X Music), a fortnightly podcast exploring video game music and the intersection of video games and the music industry. On this week’s episode, we’re joined by two-time Tony and GRAMMY-winning composer and producer, Charlie Rosen, to talk about his journey from working on Broadway productions to creating big band jazz arrangements of video game music with the 8-Bit Big Band and why a golden age of video game covers and arrangements is heralding what Rosen dubs The Great Video Game Songbook.––––––––––––––––––––––Whether you work in the music or games industries or simply enjoy video game music and want to learn more about this area of interest, make sure to give us a listen……and HIT SUBSCRIBE if you enjoy! We're GXM (Games X Music), a fortnightly podcast exploring video game music and the intersection of video games and the music industry.
