Today is the official IPO listing of Leeuwin Metals (ASX:LM1) and to give us the spiel about this exciting new Nickel and Lithium explorer we’ve got the Managing Director Chris Piggott, alongside Non-Executive Director Scotty Williamson. You may also know as the Managing Director at fellow Nickel explorer and project developer, Blackstone Minerals (ASX:BSX). Chris has a very impressive CV and track record of being involved in some significant discoveries, namely the lodes that helped Bellevue Gold define + 3moz and also the Nova/Bollinger deposit (now operated by IGO). Leeuwin’s flagship asset is the William Lake Nickel project, located in the Manitoba province of Canada. This project has a decent opportunity for a large scale Nickel Sulphide project. There is already circa 90,000m of exploration drilling already in the ground, which is a replacement cost of circa $C355. The data from this shows Nickel intersections varying from 200m to +700m downhole, with high Nickel grades in addition to the presence of PGE’s. Chris has some decent skin in the game, being the top shareholder so he is heavily aligned with Leeuwin becoming a successful explorer. They’re trading on the ASX now, check out LM1 and enjoy my chat with Chris Piggott and Scotty Williamson.   **Check out the Leeuwin Metals website for further information**   If you would like your company to be a part of Life Of Mine, get in touch with me via matt@lifeofminepodcast.com   ***DISCLAIMER***   All Life Of Mine episodes are for information only and may contain forward looking statements that may not eventuate. For all the Jumbo Operators and Fitters out there that are familiar with "Spiral Guard", "No-Gap Wrap" and "Hydra-Shield", well Peter May invented all of them. In this episode we yarned about all the ups and downs that led Pete towards founding his current business, Hydraulic Shields.   Pete also opens up about his battles with the Black Dog (mental health) throughout his whole life which stemmed from childhood trauma. The "Gold Series" is the new hot get together within the Aussie Gold industry. This event has been curated by White Noise Communications and Caldera House and in this chat we get to hear from the two head honchos themselves, Amalie Schreurs and Gigi Penna.   The first 2 events are in Melbourne and Sydney (21st + 23rd June), with a 3rd event planned for Perth in July. Considering gold prices are at an all-time highs with corporate activity increasing, Amalie and Gigi believe now is the time to unlock value within WA's gold sector.   Kristie Batten from Mining News will be hosting a Fireside Chat and I (Matty) will also be conducting a Footy Show style "Roving Mic" so brace yourselves if you are attending the event.   Check out White Noise Communications and Caldera House if you're looking for some gun investor relations teams in the Mining Industry.   White Noise Communications - https://whitenoisecomms.com/   Caldera House - https://www.calderahouse.com.au/   *********************************   *** Sign up for online JUMBO TRAINING at https://lifeofminepodcast.com/members-podcasts/ ***   Buy all your Life Of Mine Merch at https://lifeofminepodcast.com/shop/   Make sure you subscribe to Life Of Mine wherever you get your Podcasts (links below):   APPLE SPOTIFY GOOGLE
*** Sign up for online JUMBO TRAINING at https://lifeofminepodcast.com/members-podcasts/ ***   Now my Aussie Underground Miners counterpart Scott Gorfin joined me for a few schooners to interview an absolute machine of a bloke that is really having a crack in the space of Mining E-Commerce and a gut load of other stuff, Jake Harris.   Shakey Jakey is the founder of the Nipper Store, the go to online shop for everything Underground Mining. You can get ya tool bags, cap lamps, socks, self rescuer pouches, work torches, toiletries and there's also plenty of t-shirts, hats and stickers with the great nipper store logo on it. He’s started it from scratch and its going absolute gang busters. He's even making Laser covers to service the Jumbo industry (my type of guy).   He’s also got another venture going (I'm getting worn out just from thinking about all the work he does). Part 1 goes into Simesy's airleg days all throughout WA and Part 2 goes through his early Management days with Eltin. Within Part 2 there is a great bit on the early development of North Parkes that is well worth a listen.   Now in part 3 with Simesy, we talk about the backend of his career in his upper management days. He ran mines such as Golden Grove, oversaw the development of Gwalia deeps, started up the Degrussa Copper mine and then finished off with Northern Star running Plutonic and also did a bit at South Kal and Pogo. Plenty of great learnings in this episode for all the Engineers and Managers out there. Some episode highlights include:   Controlling Sulphide Dust explosions at Golden Grove How Simesy got Degrussa out of the underground flooding situation What stands out to him as a poor culture on a Mine Site and Simesy's attitude and methods for improving it How Simesy mentored us young folk through making mistakes and how we learnt and grew from them What Simesy's management style was based around and why he was so respected   Thanks for the opportunity Simesy, one of the best interviews I've had the pleasure of doing and thanks for looking after the industry while you were in it.   Buy all your Life Of Mine Merch here   Make sure you subscribe to Life Of Mine wherever you get your Podcasts (links below):   APPLE   SPOTIFY   GOOGLE

We went into Simesy's early days on the airleg throughout WA in the 70s and 80s.   In Part 2 we go into Simesy's early Management days with Eltin, who were one of the first big Underground Contractors in WA. Simesy worked and managed many of the mines that are still around today, namely Bellevue, Leinster and North Parkes. There is a great section in here about the early development of North Parkes where it was run as a "Quality Assurance" mine.   Stay tuned for Part 3 coming out next week, where we finish off with an insight into Simesy's Senior Management time which provides some great learnings for all the aspiring Engineers and Managers out there.   Buy all your Life Of Mine Merch here   Make sure you subscribe to Life Of Mine wherever you get your Podcasts (links below):   APPLE SPOTIFY GOOGLE

I’ve been working on this bloke for 4 years and whether its out of guilt or curiosity, I’ve finally got him. My old boss, one of my biggest mentors and well-known figure in WA Mining, Mr Tony Sime.   Now as per usual, we yarned for about 2.5 hrs so I’ve split it up into 3 episodes. In this part 1, we go through how Simesy got into Mining and him getting on the airleg at a very young age. In these early years, he worked in and around Kambalda, Leinster, Laverton and Norseman (I probably missed some there). We also go into his victories in the rock drill comps, Simesy claims he invented the technique that Bub Butler uses when carrying the airleg back (Bub reckons he invented it so the jury is out).
Welcome to the first episode of the new and improved Life Of Mine. We're heading back to the foundations here, getting in deep with the life stories of those prominent within the Mining industry.   Our first episode is with Paul Bennett, Managing Director of Medallion Metals. Benno has had a very diverse career in Mining, where he originally commenced as a Mining Engineer and went all the way through to Underground Manager (after coming from a Victorian Timber mill). He then undertook a 9 year pivot to work for RMB, where he was involved in Financing Mining company's and deals. Paul was involved in the initial $15m that financed Bill Beament's Paulsens acquisition for Norther Star Resources, which laid the foundations for what Northern Star is today.   Benno is an absolute gentleman of a bloke and has a great story to tell, which paved the path for his current tenure with Medallion Metals.   Buy all your Life Of Mine Merch here   Make sure you subscribe to Life Of Mine wherever you get your Podcasts (links below):   APPLE   SPOTIFY   GOOGLE

Last week we went into the Great Boulder Resources (ASX:GBR) story with the MD Andrew Paterson. In this episode, we delve right into Patto’s history in the Mining Industry. It’s great story with an even better bloke. In parallel with being a highly respected MD, he is also an absolute character. You’ll thoroughly enjoy the story about the anonymous newsletter that he circulated around the WASM campus back in his Uni days. ****COARSE VISIBLE GOLD FOR GREAT BOULDER RESOURCES**** In this episode we have a chat to Andrew “Pato” Paterson, MD of Great Boulder Resources (ASX:GBR) and what a time to have it. GBR have just intersected some very impressive coarse visible gold in their RC drilling activities at their flagship asset Side Well. This project is a stones throw from the Westgold Operations of Paddy’s Flat and Blue Bird in and near Meekatharra, WA. Great Boulder have just come out of a Trading Halt which they went into immediately and as quoted by Pato in the announcement, “As soon as I saw the photo of the drill chips I knew we had to go into a trading halt before the drillers went to the pub after work”. We chat about this announcement, the history of Great Boulder Resources and what’s in the pipeline for their aim of growing their inferred Side Well Resource from the existing 518,000oz @ 2.6g/t towards the elusive 1million ounces. It’s a great junior gold exploration story that is told by an absolutely cracking bloke at the helm of it. Now a bit of a teaser, there’s a Part 2 of this that will come out next week, which is an in depth Bio about Pato. It’s a sensational chat which really delves into what  he is all about as both a Managing Director and a person. Keep an eye out for that one coming to an earphone near you soon.   If you would like your company to be a part of Life Of Mine, get in touch with me via matt@lifeofminepodcast.com   ***DISCLAIMER***   All Channel Mine News episodes are for information only and may contain forward looking statements that may not eventuate. ***RARE EARTH’S 101*** Now I assumed that since I didn’t know a hell of a lot about rare earths prior to this episode, that there were also others out there. So why not do a rare earths Podcast and you know how we love a good 2 part series on Life Of Mine. I’m joined by Brett Hazelden and Darren Holden, Managing Director and Chair of OD6 Metals (ASX:OD6) who have a Clay Rare Earth exploration play near Esperance, WA. So in Part 1 we get into: Overview of Rare Earths and their history Primary uses How they are formed and found in the ground, specifically the difference between Carbonatite Rare Earths and Clay Rare Earths The metallurgical processes Why there is a run for them in this current market   Stay tuned for Part 2 which will drop tomorrow, where we then get into who the Rare Earth producers and next cabs off the rank are, both in Australia and around the globe.   If you would like your company to be a part of Life Of Mine or Channel Mine News, get in touch with me via matt@lifeofminepodcast.com   ***DISCLAIMER***   All Channel Mine News episodes are for information only and may contain forward looking statements that may not eventuate. ***Use promo code “lifeofmine” to get 50% off all purchases at www.theorangecard.com.au” I had the opportunity to interview for a 2nd time Rod Bridge, Founder of the not for profit drug awareness organisation Sideffect and also founder of the recently launched Orange Card. We have also got in this chat, David Bignold, National Sales Director for The Orange Card. Head back and listen to my first episode with Bridgey where we went through the tragic passing of his son Preston in 2013. Preston was under the influence of a $2 synthetic LSD tab, purchased off the Silk Road and jumped from a building balcony. Following Prestons passing, Bridgey has made it his life long mission to raise awareness to children, parents and workers about what drugs are out there. But he’s practical, he and the rest of us know that its impossible for drug use to not exist, but its all about awareness of knowing what can kill you and your kids, especially all the synthetic shit that’s out there these days (even I’m too old to know what there is). Now the Orange Card expands on all of this via online modules that go into all drugs, alcohol, vaping, sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination. It’s a sensational resource for parents and children for both the education reasons, but mostly for opening up the lines of communication. Now why has Bridgey expanded into Sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination? Well it is very proven that following these events in the workplace, people gravitate towards alcohol and drugs as a coping mechanism. So all harassment is therefore inherently linked to alcohol and drug use. To sign up and complete the course, head to https://theorangecard.com.au/ and use the promo code “lifeofmine” to get 50% off all purchases, absolute bargain for some life long teachings and advice. For Corporate bookings (bulk packages), email sales@theorangecard.com.au Go back and have a listen to the 1st episode with Rod Bridge – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL5vWJ8OLbA
In this episode I interviewed a Geologist that is championing woman in the resources sector, Molly Stanistreet. Now you may have seen Molly floating around Facebook recently after the Courier Mail wrote an article about her in the lead up to the Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) Awards for Women in Resources. Though as a typical newspaper, the Courier Mail just honed in on this apparent boys culture in Mining, which Molly can’t even really remember saying. So I thought I’d take the opportunity to interview Molly about her career in the Mining industry, what it has done for her and why she is in the running to take out this years WIMARQ resources award for woman. Now Molly’s career has been far from spoon fed, where as a graduated Geologist she packed up from the comforts of family and friends in QLD and headed solo to where else but Kalgoorlie to commence her career in the Mining industry. It’s a great story and after working with her previously, I can vouch that she brings an amazing family vibe to whatever mine site she works on. She is a very valuable asset not just as a Geologist, but as a great person that lifts the morale of everyone around her. Best of luck with the WIMARQ award Molly.
