I’ve been getting a ton of questions about remote side hustles and how to find them, so we’re digging deep into the remote gig economy in this episode. Today’s guest is the one and only, Nick Loper, from the award-winning blog Side Hustle Nation and podcast The Side Hustle Show to discuss remote side hustles, where to get started, what worked for us, vs. not-so-much, and more! We’ll also help you stay away from the tons of online scams that disguise themselves as so-called “side hustles” when they’re really just get-rich-quick schemes. Nick Loper helps people earn money outside of their day job. He's an author, online entrepreneur, and host of the award-winning Side Hustle Show podcast, which features new part-time business ideas each week. As Chief Side Hustler at SideHustleNation.com, he loves deconstructing the tactics and strategies behind building extra income streams. I’m so excited to welcome a friend of mine from the online creator space to the podcast, Jannese Torres, founder of the award-winning podcast Yo Quiero Dinero & long-time successful Latin food blog Delish D'lites. We’ll be covering a highly requested side hustle topic - blogging - with the queen of blogging herself! Jannese will also be taking us through the twists and turns of her own career journey and how she not only started one virtual business, but multiple. Jannese Torres is an award-winning Latina Money Expert. She became an accidental entrepreneur after a job loss inspired her to turn her food blog into a six-figure business, and is an expert in the areas of digital entrepreneurship, content creation, financial independence, creating multiple income streams, and passive income. Jannese is on a mission to educate marginalized communities on topics like entrepreneurship, investing, and financial independence. Do you know your rights at work? Most people don’t and employers want to keep it that way. So naturally, I sat down with former employment attorney Delyanne Barros in this episode to break down several rights that employees have and how to use an employment attorney instead of going to HR for your next dispute (the process is simpler than you think). We chat about protecting ourselves at work, how to take advantage of the benefits package, and retiring early (or at least eventually).  This episode is the ultimate financial survival guide for employees. Take notes! Delyanne Barros worked for 14 years as a plaintiff-side employment attorney before she started her business Delyanne The Money Coach. In less than three years she built a multimillion-dollar business and social media community with more than 334,000 followers on TikTok. After paying off over $150,000 of debt, she retired from law to run her business full-time and became a nationally recognized money expert, host of the CNN podcast Diversifying, a Forbes contributor, and was named one of the most influential voices of money by TIME. She’s a powerhouse with a mission – to highlight solutions for Gen-Z, millennials, women, and minorities to thrive and build wealth, and has helped thousands of people pay off debt and start investing. Nurses, LISTEN UP! If you're ready to pivot from bedside nursing to a remote role, remote jobs for nurses are huge right now and are projected to continue to increase year over year. My mom was actually a nurse and I grew up around surgery centers and hospitals. I had no idea nurses could even work remotely - and if they could when I was younger, I'm sure my mom would've hopped on that opportunity with no questions asked. So, I just had to sit down with Emma of NurseFern to give us all the remote nursing deets, including how to set yourself up to land a remote nursing role, side hustles for nurses, and more! Emma is the founder/CEO of Nurse Fern. Nurse Fern is an online career site and community helping bedside nurses transition into remote nursing roles. Emma started her nursing career in critical care and then moved to the ER. After transitioning into a non-bedside nursing role and eventually going remote, she now helps other nurses do the same.  Got a question you want to be answered on a future episode or want to share the WEIRDEST things that have ever happened to you at work? Ready to get schooled in finance and learn about ways teachers can pivot to remote work & start side hustles that suit them?  In this episode I chat with former teacher, Melissa Jean-Baptiste, a financial educator and author of So This Is Why I'm Broke: Money Lessons on Financial Literacy, Passive Income, and Generational Wealth is a first-generation Haitian American and former NYC high school teacher. As the Beyonce of personal finance, she paid off $102,000 dollars in student loan debt on a teacher’s salary while writing and producing the award-winning Millennial In Debt web series. She has since pivoted into personal finance and career coaching to help millennials and Gen Z build generational wealth and gain financial freedom in a shame-free digital environment. We chat about the financial chain of events that lead her to create her platform Millennial in Debt and how that same platform helped her pivot from in the classroom to a remote work role in tech. We also talk about side hustles, passive income, & the weird ways our career journeys flow into something we never thought would happen. My favorite part of this interview though is when she gives us some juicy golden nuggets of insider information about how other teachers can pivot to remote roles that suit them, using the same tools they already use and transferable skills they already have. So, don’t go out and start hoarding all the certifications thinking that’s what you need to pivot because you’re already enough!  Got a question you want to be answered on a future episode or want to share the WEIRDEST things that have ever happened to you at work? It's time to get weird. This episode with my friend and podcast producer Gabby Ianniello of the Corporate Quitter BARES IT ALL -- we're talking about weird & some super illegal things in corporate America, taking a step back from corporate to explore other opportunities, weird ways to make money, entrepreneurship, and more! Gabby Ianniello (eye-ah-nell-oh) is a Podcast Producer, the Host of Corporate Quitter, and the Founder of She Likes To Gab, a podcast-centric digital marketing agency. After almost a decade in Corporate, Gabby quit her cushy job on Wall Street and took to podcasting as a fun new "hobby" which unexpectedly exploded, becoming a globally-recognized platform within months. Since the launch, she's grown her following to over 50k, has accrued 90k+ podcast downloads, and is recognized as a rising global leader, having been featured in dozens of media publications, TV segments, and documentaries. She's inspired thousands to take the leap, and now predominantly helps people launch their own podcasts, create viral-worthy social content, and master the art of raw self-expression through storytelling. If you’re queer or trans looking to either travel to or relocate to an LGBTQ+ friendly state or city, this episode is for you! I sit down with John and David of the Debt Free Guys blog and Queer Money podcast to dive into the recent research they’ve done on LGBTQ+ friendly locations and a HUGE deep dive into how anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is being funded (and by who) 👀 Due to the 530 anti-trans bills that have been introduced since last year and the 491 anti-LGBTQ+ bills that were introduced this year alone, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to be safe and exist publicly as queer or trans. This episode helps navigate that as well as digs into how these bills are even being funded. John & David bring some mind-blowing research to the table in this episode and it was such an honor for them to come on the show! ** Regardless of where you live, if your employer is discriminating against you for being queer or trans, you’re protected under federal law. If you feel like you’ve been treated unfairly at work because of being queer or trans, file a charge with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). David and John are husbands living their fabulous life while helping other gay men who also want to live an amazing life, without sacrificing their financial security. With their website Debt Free Guys, their Queer Money™ podcast, and several tools and resources, they help you live fabulously, not fabulously broke. Want to start a side hustle and turn it into your full-time gig? Don't quit your day job quite yet until you listen to this episode. I've been a HUGE fan of the Money With Katie blog & podcast for years, so I had to bring Katie on Remote Work Bestie to chat about her own experience with side hustles, what being acquired by a big company like Morning Brew looks like, conflicting feelings about quitting your job for your side hustle, and more. Katie Gatti Tassin is the voice and face behind the brand Money with Katie, a personal finance media company focused on spending habits, investing, and the economy. She helps people with their personal finance goals and questions while building a community reaching 400K+ of #RichGirls (and Guys). The U.S. is starting to become The Bad Place, especially for women, LGBTQ+ folks, people with disabilities, & BIPOC. This is exactly why I wanted to talk to Vanessa Wachtmeister of Wander Onwards about how to get the F out of here and find out how to move & work remotely abroad (or if you want to move from any other country) -- and the ethical ways to do that. Vanessa Wachtmeister is a travel tech professional, angel investor, and founder of the wealth & wanderlust platform, Wander Onwards. Why do we work in the first place? To pay to live...which is an odd concept, but here we are. Wouldn't it make sense that companies should list a salary range on job listings & not prohibit their employees from talking about pay? Well, with 32 states having some form of pay transparency laws, they're starting to step up thanks to the growing salary transparency movement. On this week’s episode of Remote Work Bestie, I sit down with the one and only Hannah Williams, founder of Salary Transparent Street. With her viral series, Hannah encourages strangers to share what they do and how much they make. She's inspired to combat discriminatory tendencies in employment and close pay gaps that affect women, POC, workers with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community. Hannah uses her platform to educate her community on market research, salary negotiation, and labor laws to understand workers' rights. We chat about finding out when you're being underpaid, why salary transparency is important, interesting careers, and navigating pay transparency in remote work and as a business owner. Hey! I’m Daniella, your new Remote Work Bestie. You might’ve seen me on CNBC, TIME, Buzzfeed, or my blog I Like to Dabble talking about money, side hustles, & remote careers…because I’m pretty obsessed with demystifying & busting open all of the above. Before I started writing online, I was a software engineer in fintech & I started my career in I.T. & tech about 11 years ago. Because of the nature of my work, I got an early exposure to working remotely back then and I’ve seen it all, before the world went on lockdown & before what we’re seeing now with many companies rallying against remote work. When I look around at how the panini sped up the evolution of how we work and how we think about work, and then see all of the anti-remote work propaganda that’s now happening in the media as a direct response to employees having “too much freedom”, it makes me pretty mad. All while CEOs are making on average of 399 times more than their employees with years of record profits and bonuses because they kept their workforce working through a global pandemic thanks to the very thing they’re trying to rally against now - remote work. Que the side eye. We need to talk about this. The days of 90s cubicle culture and pizza parties are over. This is where the podcast comes in. I know I know, it seems like everyone has a podcast these days. But not like this one. Remote Work Bestie is a podcast here to challenge the traditional 9 to 5, 40-hour work week, and help you navigate a more flexible way of working and living. Join me every week as I chat with experts and other remote work besties to help you navigate the world of work and money in a non-boring, exposing, weird, and fun way. We'll talk about everything from finding & navigating remote work, negotiating, managing finances, entrepreneurship, mental health, ethical travel & relocation, and more. We’re also going to get weird and talk about all the strange things we’ve experienced in our working lives, the backwards corporate BS, the things that happen behind the scenes, but also the good things like the people we’ve met and the connections made along the way. There’s nothing off-limits here. If you're in, don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast so you don’t miss an episode. I would also love it if you could rate and review on Apply or Spotify & share it with your friends. Your feedback will help us reach even more Remote Work Besties who are challenging the traditional way of working. And with that — See you next week.
