Mindset is the system of beliefs we hold consciously and unconsciously throughout our lives. Some of the most basic and important beliefs we have about ourselves are about our ability to learn new skills. These beliefs fuel or limit our actions, and ultimately determine our success in both professional and personal contexts. How can we identify our mindset? And the big question is, how can we develop a “growth mindset” - the kind that helps us grow and stretch our potential? My guest for this episode is Martha Ramirez - an educator and Growth Mindset researcher based in Bogotá, Colombia - to help us understand our mindsets, how we communicate as a result of our mindsets, and how to talk to ourselves and others in a way that supports a growth mindset. Want to learn more about this life-changing topic? Here are some good reads:Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck What Having a “Growth Mindset” Actually Means by Carol Dweck Peak by Anders EricssonChallenging Mindset by James Nottingham and Bosse Larsson Connect with Martha Ramirez:https://martharamirez.com.co/https://www.linkedin.com/in/martha-ramirez/Twitter: @martharamirezco
A difficult conversation can lead to the best things in life. In a sense, all conversations are difficult - they require a variety of skills that nobody teaches us. As we advance in our careers, it becomes even more complicated: We interact more with people from all over the world, with different backgrounds, cultures and perspectives. How can we improve our performance in these conversations?Today I’ve invited Reuven Ben Shalom, a cross-cultural strategist and consultant, to help us get better at communicating in an international environment.  Reuven trains senior leaders in cross-cultural communication at the IDF School of Military Diplomacy and at the Israel National Defense College. In our conversation, we discussed how to interact more professionally in a global setting, make open communication easier, and communicate more effectively overall.
