Arpana was a beautiful, talented, wildly smart 24-year-old living her best life in Redmond, Washington, when her life was cut short. She held an apartment-wide Halloween party with other residents. This fun night ended in her brutal murder. The question remains today, 15 years later… Who did it? One person was charged with her death, but he was acquitted, and for good reason. But why is this case so hard to solve? The answer is multi-faceted - DNA, racism, and shoddy police work. You name it. There was a plethora of DNA with no strong matches, but we think we know who the culprit is. And we think you’ll agree! Join us as we go over all the possibilities.

Hey Lab Rats! We’re back just in time for Lab Reports! We share a listener's story of a haunted doll and a cautionary tale about stranger danger and escaping a potential serial killer.
For our first Mini-Episode, we discuss a 67-year-old mystery. On November 8, 1957, Pan Am Flight 7 departed San Francisco for Honolulu on what was supposed to be a routine trans-Pacific crossing. Instead, it vanished. Wreckage was later discovered scattered across the ocean, along with the bodies of some passengers, but no clear answers ever surfaced. Was it mechanical failure, sabotage, or something more sinister?
For Jessica’s Mini-Episode, we cover a Colorado nightmare. In October 2023, authorities uncovered 191 decomposing bodies inside Colorado’s Return to Nature Funeral Home, exposing a web of fraud and betrayal by owners Jon and Carie Hallford. We unravel how their eco-friendly façade collapsed into one of the most disturbing scandals in U.S. funeral industry history, from the grisly discovery to the Hallfords’ charges, sentencing, and ongoing trials. And to top it off - yet another Colorado funeral home has been caught in August 2025 doing some very similar things - Davis Mortuary in Pueblo, CO.

In September 1972, a dog returned home carrying a decomposed human forearm, leading police to a steep cliff in Springfield, New Jersey, ominously known as “Devil’s Teeth.” There, they discovered the nearly skeletal remains of 16‑year‑old Jeannette DePalma, who had been missing for six weeks. What followed became one of New Jersey’s strangest unsolved cases—an investigation clouded by rumors of witchcraft, missing evidence, and conflicting theories that still divide the community today.
More than fifty years later, Jeannette’s death remains a mystery despite many theories and possible suspects. Was she the victim of occult violence, a local predator, a serial killer, or something else entirely? Join us as we dive deep into the facts, the folklore, and the frustrating gaps in this enduring cold case. We also discuss other victims possibly connected to Jeannette’s killer: Joan Kramer, Carol Ann Farino, Mary Ann Pryor, and Lorraine Marie Kelley.

In November of 1970, a hiker and his daughters stumbled upon a charred body in Norway’s remote Isdalen Valley. What followed was one of the most puzzling investigations in modern history. The woman had no ID, traveled under at least nine aliases, spoke multiple languages, and carried a suitcase full of wigs, forged documents, and coded notes. Was she a spy? A smuggler? Or simply someone trying to disappear? In this episode, we dive deep into the facts, the forensics, and the theories that still surround the case of the Isdal Woman.

And no, the cocktail doesn’t count.

In September of 1977, 25-year-old Sigrid Stevenson — a gifted pianist and free spirit — was spending the night at Kendall Hall, the theater building on Trenton State College’s campus. She had nowhere else to go, and the stage, with its old piano and quiet darkness, had become a kind of sanctuary for her.
The next night, she was found brutally murdered — naked, beaten, and left in the very place that had once brought her peace.
Sigrid wasn’t just another student. She was brilliant, a bit unconventional, and deeply passionate about her music. Her life and her death left a mark, and for nearly five decades, her case has remained unsolved — a frustrating mix of silence, dead ends, and lingering questions.
In this episode, we dig into the life of Sigrid Stevenson and the strange details surrounding her murder. Was this a random act of violence, or did someone know she was there that night — alone and vulnerable?
It’s a story that’s heartbreaking, maddening, and deeply eerie. And the fact that her killer may have walked right back into the world unnoticed? That’s the kind of nightmare that still echoes through Kendall Hall.

This week, we are revisiting the interesting case of Scott and Yarmila Falater. On January 16, 1997, Scott brutally murdered Yarmila in the backyard of their Arizona home while their kids were asleep upstairs. The kick is… he doesn’t remember doing it. Or so he says. His defense? Sleepwalking! Listen in to see how you’ll side. Was he sleepwalking? Did he have a psychotic break? Or is Scott just another calculated, cold-blooded killer?

A huge thank you to our listeners for sticking it out with us for over two years while we figure out this podcast life! We are taking a short break while we both transition through some pivotal changes in our lives. But we will not leave you empty-handed. We are bringing back some ancient episodes that have fallen off (aged out) of certain platforms. They are remastered and better for your ears! First up…The Grimm Brothers!
Snow White. Hansel and Gretel. Puss in Boots. Rapunzel. Cinderella. Rumpelstiltskin. Little Red Riding Hood.
What do all these famous tales have in common? Okay, books and movies, yes… but let’s go back in time. Way back. These fairy tales had a dark beginning, but we wouldn’t have them today if it weren’t for two very ambitious and determined brothers. This week, Jessica takes us down the windy path of the Brothers Grimm and reads us a few stories that you won’t see put out by Disney anytime soon.

When beloved children's author Helen Bailey vanished in 2016, the world was gripped by the mystery. But beneath the surface was a chilling truth: her fiancé, Ian Stewart, was not only her killer, but had already taken another life years before. In this episode, we unravel the shocking story of Ian Stewart - a man who murdered his first wife, Diane Stewart, in 2010, staging her death as a tragic medical incident, only to be unmasked as a double killer years later.
We follow the investigation that first treated Diane Stewart’s sudden death as epilepsy-related, and how, after Helen Bailey’s body and that of her loyal dachshund, Boris, were found hidden in a cesspit, police began to see a deadly pattern.
Join us as we examine how Stewart’s deception fooled those closest to him, the crucial evidence that finally brought him to justice, and the legacy of two women whose lives, and a beloved dog, were cruelly stolen by a man they trusted.

Robert Maudsley is one of Britain’s most infamous and dangerous inmates. From a childhood marred by relentless abuse to a series of gruesome murders, Maudsley's life is a dark exploration of trauma, revenge, and justice. We look at how his early suffering shaped his violent path, earning him the chilling nicknames "Hannibal the Cannibal" and "The Brain Eater," despite false reports of cannibalism.
Robert became a serial killer behind bars. We discuss the four murders and explore the extreme measures taken to contain him—solitary confinement in a specially designed glass cell for over 46 years. Does prolonged isolation serve justice, or is it another layer of cruelty?
Join us as we dissect the mind and legacy of Robert Maudsley, a man whose story forces us to confront the thin line between justice and vengeance.

In this episode, we delve into the heart-wrenching stories of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) in North America, including the tragic case of 14-year-old Emily Pike, whose life was brutally cut short in Arizona. We also examine the devastating murders of four Indigenous women in Winnipeg by Jeremy Skibicki, highlighting the systemic issues that contribute to these crimes. Through these cases, we explore the broader crisis affecting Indigenous communities and the urgent need for justice and change.
The legacy of residential schools plays a significant role in this crisis. These institutions, which forcibly assimilated Indigenous children into Euro-American culture, have left a lasting impact of intergenerational trauma and cultural disruption. The physical and emotional abuse experienced by survivors has contributed to cycles of violence and vulnerability, exacerbating the risks faced by Indigenous women and girls today. By understanding this historical context, we can better address the ongoing challenges and work towards healing and justice for affected communities.

On a summer evening in 2016, 20-year-old Sierah Joughin vanished while riding her bike in rural Ohio. Her disappearance shocked the community and set in motion a series of events that would uncover dark secrets and change lives forever. This episode delves into Sierah's vibrant life, the tragic circumstances of her abduction and murder, and the swift arrest of James Worley — a man with a troubling past. Is James Worley a serial killer?
We discuss other potential victims and theories. Thankfully James Worley can't hurt anyone else. He was sentenced to death for what he did to Sierah. But Sierah's story doesn't end with the courtroom verdict. Her family channeled their grief into action, successfully advocating for "Sierah's Law" to create a violent offender database and empower communities.
Join us as we honor Sierah's memory while shedding light on the broader issues of predatory behavior, the importance of community vigilance, and the ongoing fight for justice and prevention.

This week we cover two true crime cases in our first “Under the Microscope” episode. Two young women whose lives were tragically cut short in shocking acts of violence. Despite their different backgrounds and being from opposite sides of the world, both cases captivated public attention and exposed deep-rooted societal issues. Their stories share haunting similarities in the betrayal of trust and the devastating impact on their communities, leaving behind legacies that sparked calls for change and justice.
First, Kendra covers the gruesome murder of Abby Choi, a 28-year-old Hong Kong socialite and fashion icon. Her dismembered body was found in February 2023, shocking the city and making international headlines. We'll explore the twisted plot involving her ex-husband's family, financial disputes, and a makeshift "butcher shop." This horrifying case is a blend of glamour, greed, and unthinkable violence. Think Parasite meets Dexter.
Afterwards, Jessica takes us back to her home state of New Mexico. We explore the tragic event that unfolded at the Sunshine Theater in Albuquerque on July 16, 2003. Sixteen-year-old Marissa Mathy-Zvaifler's night out to see Atmosphere in concert took a dark turn, leading to a case that would shock the nation and change laws. We'll uncover how a seemingly ordinary venue became the site of a horrific crime, exposing critical flaws in the justice system.

In this week’s episode, Jessica brings us the harrowing true crime story chronicled in Michael Grimm's book "Tell Edith Goodbye." Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression in 1935, in the picturesque yet unforgiving Skagit Valley of the Cascade Mountain Range, a destitute family struggling to survive meets a mysterious drifter known only as "the Finn." This stranger's arrival sets in motion a chain of events that will forever alter the lives of those involved. A dangerous infatuation developed between the youngest daughter, Edith, and the Finn. He stopped at nothing to make her his. This once large, loving family was torn apart at the seams. All because they let the wrong person in.
