Everything worthwhile is uphill, and we can't climb uphill with downhill habits. So how do we stop wishing life were easier and start getting better at doing hard things? In this episode, Julia Lashay, Emerick Peace, and Daniel Dixon explore what it means to embrace the hard in business, leadership, and life. Inspired by wisdom from John Maxwell, we discuss why resilience, discipline, and the right relationships are essential to long-term success. We unpack the lessons hidden in failure, why our response to adversity matters more than the adversity itself, and how to build a support system with five essential people at our table. We also explore the importance of mentorship, knowing when to delegate, and pushing forward when success feels out of reach. Whether we're navigating a difficult market, facing personal setbacks, or pursuing our next big goal, we're reminded that growth requires discomfort, and the journey is worth the climb. How much should income matter when choosing a partner, and what happens when the numbers don’t match our expectations? In this episode, we dig into the income disparities between Black men and women and what those realities can mean for dating, relationships, family formation, and wealth building. We unpack the difference between standards and preferences, the pressure social media puts on our expectations, and why earning less doesn’t necessarily mean contributing less to a partnership. We also shift the conversation from income to wealth. Instead of asking only what someone earns, we explore what it looks like to find a partner we can actually build with over time. Along the way, we share practical ways to increase income, turn earnings into assets, and have honest financial conversations before making serious commitments. This is part One. We’ll be back with more perspectives as we continue the conversation. Wealth doesn’t have to start with owning a business, buying investment property, or having access to a huge amount of capital. Chris Brodhead, Chief Revenue Officer at Keller Williams, joins us at Mega Camp 2026 to rethink what building wealth can look like. Drawing from two decades in private equity, real estate investing, and wealth management, Chris explains how disciplined saving, low-cost investing, thoughtful budgeting, and time can help everyday earners build meaningful financial freedom. We also discuss retirement options for entrepreneurs, why expertise can attract investment capital, and how to evaluate opportunity through the lens of risk and return. Chris also shares how Keller Williams is approaching organic growth, agent attraction, and brokerage acquisitions as new opportunities emerge across the real estate industry. His challenge is simple: decide what an abundant life looks like for us, build a plan around it, and go after it. Commercial real estate can feel like a game reserved for people with deep pockets, decades of experience, and the right connections. In this episode, we sit down with Rafik Moore to break down why that belief keeps too many of us on the sidelines. We explore how to recognize a real commercial opportunity, why problem properties can become profitable deals, and how relationships can matter more than having our own capital. Rafik also walks us through a real-world deal where a newer investor brought hustle and local knowledge while an experienced partner supplied capital and expertise. We also examine ownership as a tool for strengthening communities. When neighborhoods improve, the people who live there should have the opportunity to participate in the wealth being created. The message is simple: learn the game, find solvable problems, bring value to the right relationships, and start playing. Why do we suddenly become our most focused, disciplined selves when our backs are against the wall? In this episode, we dig into why pressure can bring out incredible execution while ordinary days often lead to distraction, procrastination, and inconsistency. We explore the difference between actually doing our best work under pressure and simply waiting until pressure removes every other option. We talk about clarity, calendars, habits, accountability, and why entrepreneurs often give themselves flexibility they would never have on someone else’s payroll. We also break down three levels of performance: being emotion-driven, consequence-driven, and ultimately standards-driven. The goal is to move beyond relying on motivation or crisis and build a way of working that is consistent regardless of how much pressure we feel. We discuss how small wins, better structure, fewer distractions, and stronger accountability can create momentum over time. The real question is how we become the kind of people who execute on an ordinary Tuesday, not just when everything is on the line. We Talk About:  [00:00] The Power of Loss and Urgency [03:33] Discipline, Clarity, or Habit? [07:52] Building a Habit of Preparation [09:17] Performing Without Your Back Against the Wall [16:12] Clarity Creates Focus [19:50] Remove the Options, Remove the Distractions [31:14] From Emotion-Driven to Standards-Driven Resources: Learn more at The Color of Money Become a real estate agent HERE Connect with Our Hosts Emerick Peace: Instagram: @theemerickpeace Facebook: facebook.com/emerickpeace Daniel Dixon: Instagram: @dixonsoldit Facebook: facebook.com/realdanieldixon LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/dixonsoldit YouTube: @dixongroupcompanies Julia Lashay: Instagram: @iamjulialashay Facebook: facebook.com/growwithjulia LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/julialashay/ YouTube: @JuliaLashay Bo Menkiti Instagram: @bomenkiti Facebook: facebook.com/obiora.menkiti LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/bomenkiti/ Produced by NOVA This podcast is for general informational purposes only.
