No discussion on championship performance could or would be complete without 2 final considerations.  1. The Role of endurance in championship performance. 2. The role or the significance which champions play and how it is missed when it is missing. Let's look at those ideas this week.
I guess it would be a bit cheesy to borrow some words from an old song "What's love got to do with it?". Well, when it comes to championship performance in things that matter most, as I think you'll discover today, love really has quite a bit to do with getting priorities right. Let's look at that today.
What is integrity and how does it factor into making champions. Let's look at that this week.
What is self discipline? Ask 10 people on the street if they believe that self discipline is essential to championhip level performance and achievement and probably all 10 would say yes. It might be one of the few items they'd agree are essential. If discipline is that important, then we should understand it completely, understand what it can give us, but also what  it can't. Let's look at that today.
"Let's get real!",  "Come on, be real!". Those are certainly phrases we've either used or have been directed torward us. But when it comes to performing at peak level in pursuit of important things, what IS the role of realism? Let's look at that this week.
In our latest installment of the Champions series, we're looking at another of the non-negotiable qualities of championship performance. Determination. Desire and determination fit together like a powerfull car, a cool road-trip destination, and the good gas to power that car to get you to that cool place. Desire without determination is nothing more than a hope against hope that something good will come your way or mine. Let's look at that today.
Sometimes it's the common, the ordinary, the obvious that we get tripped up by. So careful in accounting for all the other details and neglecting the things which are told to us, emphasized for us and even learned by us with repetition. And yet those are the things that snag us. What if pride is one of those?
In this podcast we'll do a clear and concise overview of the first 3 weeks of the "Making of a Champion" series. With natural places to pause and think or take notes, you'll find this an easy way to reinforce your Saturday morning experience OR take a first look at this material. Notes  for each week are available by emailing men@mstarqtown.org
Beginning today, we'll explore - in a multi-week series - what champions are made from. Not so we can merely discect them to see what makes them great. It's nice to know what makes others great. But isn't there a little more to life than just an idle fascination with the lives of others? Wouldn't you like to be great? To be a champion? Sound too cheesy?  Too lame or over the top? Or perhaps it sounds wildly unimaginable standing where you do now? Perhaps not. This week we begin an exploration into the qualities of heart that can propel any human to greater levels of value and "performance with a purpose".  To study the qualities isn't enough. To memorize  them and be able to recite them and even to talk about them isn't enough. What will matter most is if we are  willing to engage with them, make these qualities our own in increasing amount. The world really doesn't have that many champions. Not because it couldn't have more, but because the effort involved and commitment demanded is more than most are willing to give. Are you? Are you willing to give and to give until?  Join with us on this journey. Find out. See for yourself if you're willing to become what you must to achieve all you can. Let's get started.

Making of a Man Part 3

Making of a Man Part 3

The enemy of any boundery set is a fickle or indecisive or reckless person who attempts to set it or maintain it. While this may not be easy to hear, it takes a fair-minded man to make a fair minded boundary.
It's good to talk about boundaries, but there are more than a few misunderstandings about their value and the difficult work which is required to determine where to place them, how to build them, how to maintain them, and worse still, how to enforce them. Yet no good and purposeful life is possible without them. Sounds like a place for a discussion and exploration. Join us.
Everyone has certain questions about meaning. Does life matter? Is it going somewhere, or is it just an endless and ultimately pointless cycle of birth  and death, getting and losing, seeking but not finding? Is this ALL there is? Most thoughtful people ask these questions on occasion. At other times we're all either accidentally or intentialy busy, so we don't have to think about what seems to have no clear anwer. Or does it? Is there the possibility of meaning in life? Let's start with a look at the foundation from meaning, which is belief. In this episode, that's what we'll do. We'll examine beliefs and beliefs on meaning.

Before making any new promises to yourself or others for 2017, why not look at how you've done with keeping the 2016 promises you made. It will help you to make better promises to yourself and others in the coming year.
In this 2nd of a  two part recording we'll explore some very specific methods which any leader from a parent to a corporate head can take to improve the day to day practice of leading.
