What changes when you go from 16 skaters to 9? A lot more than you might think. In Episode 2 of Sound of Synchro, we're getting into the coaching side of Synchro9 with two coaches who are experiencing this new discipline firsthand.Joining Lisa and Milja is Jennifer Beauchamp-Crichton, coach of Canada's NEXXICE Senior Synchro9 and Synchro16 teams. Alongside co-host Milja Sarkkinen, who is a coach of Finland's Junior Synchro9 national team and Marigold IceUnity, we explore what it's really like to build and coach a team of nine. From the creative freedom of choreography and drawing inspiration from other sports, to team bonding, individual roles, synchronization and the different skills needed on the ice, we unpack how coaching Synchro9 compares to traditional Synchro16.We also look ahead: Will Synchro9 and Synchro16 coexist? Could we see skaters transition from other skating disciplines? And what might the future of synchronized skating look like as we head toward the Olympic debut?Plus, we wrap things up with a little synchro tradition talk: the competition-day habits we'd happily leave behind and the ones we hope never disappear.Nine skaters.
