The United States Men’s National Team will have two games in South Florida in the span of a month, including one which was surprisingly moved there. We discuss that and the Crest Cup on Episode 202. The USMNT had their road leg of the Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals moved to Miami as Haiti got a special exemption from Concacaf to play their home matches outside of the Caribbean. We discuss the extraordinary move and what it means as the USMNT prepare to play Haiti in the quarterfinal round. The United States will also return to South Florida in December, this time to Fort Lauderdale to face Jamaica in a match on December 13th. RIP January Camp, but Camp Candy Cane will rise from the ashes. It’s yet another chance for some of the young MLS-based players to get seen and perhaps even get a cap that could be enough to secure moves to Europe in the January window. It’s a prime opportunity for those players who get called in for the late match. Finally, the Crest Cup is here, an open cup for the two pro leagues in American women’s soccer: the NWSL and the USL Super League. We discuss why it’s a good thing to have this kind of competition on the women’s side and hope it quickly expands to include all clubs so that it’s truly a cup competition that’s open to anyone. The United States Women’s National Team just completed their October international window against Spain, and we begin Episode 201 by recapping how they did during the window. The USWNT struggled against #1 Spain in their two friendlies, losing 2-0 on Saturday but coming back to draw 2-2 on Tuesday. We look at who did well during the camp, who didn’t, and what the USWNT need to do to improve ahead of the Concacaf W Championship with an eye on qualifying for next summer’s Women’s World Cup. And, we discuss whether there’s a gap between Spain and the United States on the soccer field. We also discuss the second half of the USMNT’s international window as they completed a 4-0 window with wins over Mexico and Canada. It was a fun window, and some of the young guys stood out with exceptional performances. We go through the roster to see who did well and who really made a name for themselves as they prepare to face Haiti in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals. We’ve done it. Welcome to Episode 200! With the double FIFA international window in full effect for the men and an important window coming up next weekend for the women, this 200th episode dives into the soccer that brought this podcast to life in the first place. On the men’s side, the USMNT have 2 big wins halfway through the window, with 2 more to go. And, the youth movement was in full display and looks impressive! We discuss some of the players that have made an immediate impact with Concacaf rivals Mexico and Canada coming up. We also review the rosters for the USWNT and the U-23 WNT as they convene for training camp (this was recorded before the news that Jordynn Dudley was ruled out of U-23 camp due to injury, being replaced by Carina Lageyre). We talk about what Emma Hayes is trying to do by giving 50 players a chance at some playing time on the international level rather than just focusing on the team that will take on Spain in DC and Philly. Finally, on our 200th episode, we pay tribute to you, the listener. We reflect back on how far we’ve come, and the show hopes to keep moving onward and upward. Thanks to everyone who has listened, shared the pod with someone, or otherwise showed their support. It’s an honor to do this show for you. The United States Men’s National Team is back with a double international window, and Mauricio Pochettino is giving the young’ns a chance. On Episode 199, we dive into the USMNT roster ahead of friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Canada. There are 13 uncapped players on the new roster, of which 12 are receiving their first senior MNT call-up. We’re excited about guys like Cavan Sullivan to get their shot. We go through the roster to see who’s in and who’s left at home. We then get into the news that Noahkai Banks has decided to represent Germany moving forward by accepting a German U-21 national team call-up. Julian Hall, despite being called into the USMNT, is still undecided on whether to pick the U.S. or Poland. We discuss these dual national decisions and what goes into them. They’re difficult ones, and you have to respect their ultimate choice. Don’t forget to follow us on Bluesky, Twitter, and YouTube! We return with episode 198, and we ask the following: what would a joint UEFA-Concacaf Nations League look like? With recent reporting that a joint Nations League was being discussed, we take the proposal and run with it. How would the various leagues be divided? More importantly, how will it help the USMNT and the USWNT? First, the men’s tournament is up for discussion, where the USMNT would get a chance to test their mettle against some stiff competition from Europe. It could really help them prepare for World Cup qualifying and the World Cup. But, it would also be intriguing to see some European teams have to travel to the Caribbean or Central America for Nations League matches. We also look at how the women’s side would shape up, and for the USWNT, it would be business as usual playing matches against some of the best in the world. They would get some fantastic matchups, and it would be intriguing to have those matchups be in a group stage and tournament format. It would also be a massive test for other teams in Concacaf who are trying to improve their teams (or in some cases, reactive them), and it could be a way for some of the smaller teams to develop their women’s programs.
