PSG's Lee Kang-in raises his hand to greet the fans after the Coupang Play Series match between Jeonbuk Hyundai and Paris Saint-Germain FC at Busan Asiad Stadium in Yeonje-gu, Busan, South Korea, on Wednesday afternoon.

"Golden Boy" Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain will join the Korean national soccer team for the Hangzhou Asian Games after Aug. 20.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on Aug. 15, "After discussions with Lee's club PSG, it was finally agreed that Lee will join the Asian Games team after the club's home game against Dortmund (Germany) in the UEFA Champions League on Aug. 19 (local time in France)."

As a result, Lee will travel to Hangzhou, China, to join the Asian Games squad on Sept. 20.

The KFA had been in talks with PSG for the player's transfer. The timing of Lee's arrival has been a major issue as he will be a key midfielder for the national team as they look to win their third consecutive Asian Games.

On January 13, the KFA received an email from PSG saying that they would allow Lee to play in Hangzhou, subject to rescheduling for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup in Qatar next January.

The KFA then held discussions with PSG until late at night on the 14th, and finally received an official response from the club on the 20th, saying that they would allow Huang to join the club without any other preconditions.

Hwang Sun-hong, head coach of the Hangzhou Asian Games football team, leads a training session at the National Football Training Center (NFC) in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, on Thursday morning.

Lee Kang-in is expected to play in the group stage if the schedule allows, according to coach Hwang Sun-hong. "I hope he can play at least one or two games in the group stage," Hwang told reporters at the Paju NFC on Sept. 14.

After traveling to Hangzhou on the 16th, Hwang's team will play Kuwait on the 19th, followed by Thailand on the 21st and Bahrain on the 24th.

While the Thailand game will be a tough one, the final group game against Bahrain will see Lee Kang-in wearing the Korean flag.

Lee will be looking to win his third consecutive gold medal, following the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games. 스포츠토토링크
