Over 2m26 automatically qualifies for the finals
The finals will be held on the afternoon of the 4th

'Smile Jumper' Woo Sang-hyuk (Yongin City Hall) will qualify in a different group to rival Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar).

The men's high jump at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games will be contested in Athletics, with the preliminary round at 10:10 a.m. today and the final at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Woo Sang-hyuk is in Group B and Barsim is in Group A during the men's high jump qualification at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, on Tuesday.

Nine athletes will compete in Group A and eight in Group B.

In this competition, anyone who clears 2.26 meters automatically qualifies for the finals. If you finish in the top 12, you still get a ticket to the finals.

If the top 12 are determined before the bar is raised to 2.26 meters, the qualification will end.

For Woo Sang-hyuk and Barsim, two of the world's best in the men's high jump, qualifying is more of a 'warm-up'.

Woo will be looking to win his first Asian Games gold medal.

After finishing 10th (2.20m) at Incheon 2014 as a high school student, Woo jumped 2.28m to take silver in Jakarta-Palembang 2018.

Since the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, Woo has gone on to become a world-class athlete.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021, Woo set a new Korean record of 2.35 meters and finished fourth, the highest finish in South Korean track and field history. Last year, he won gold at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade (2.34 meters) and silver at the World Outdoor Championships in Eugene (2.35 meters). He won this year's Diamond League Final with a leap of 2.35 meters.

If Woo is to win gold at the Asian Games, he will have to overcome the 'best of the best' in Barsim.

Barshim is the second-best men's high jumper of all time (2m43) and has won three consecutive world titles (London 2017-2019, Doha-2022, Eugene). At Tokyo 2020, he won a joint gold medal.

A gold medalist at the 2010 Guangzhou and 2014 Incheon Asian Games, Barsim missed the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games with an ankle injury.

Woo has a combined indoor and outdoor personal best of 2.36 meters.

Woo's season's best was 2m35 at the Diamond League Final. Barshim is at 2m36.

While Barsim is a tough opponent, Woo's recent form has been good. His victory at the Diamond League Final gave him a lot of momentum.

Meanwhile, Choi Jin-woo (Ulsan Sports Science University), who competed in the men's high jump alongside Woo Sang-hyuk, is in Group A with Barsim. 스포츠토토맨
