When we start to consider these are all our kids...it's not about my kid and your kid, it's about our kids...we can start to find our way back to roots in our communities.
Teachers and students go hand and hand as learners ... or they don't go at all. When we, as educators, have time to have deep instructional conversations about our teaching, we then truly understand and know our instruction. That is when we can really improve student achievement!
The moments that inspire us are always around. If we pay attention, the moments to connect are present. Slow down, pause, and make time for people. It will pay dividends in the long run.
We are in a loneliness crisis...what are we going to do with kids these days? You will never automate connection. We are neuro-biologically wired for connection.
Show up with your whole heart, roll up your sleeves, and be in the work with people. See a need and fill it. Come alongside and co-create with people. When we build the future with people, we all feel a stronger sense of ownership.
People need people. We need community. Who you surround yourself with is very important and can "up level" you.
There is a whole different way to teach kids who struggle to read. I am on a journey to help others. I can read. It just takes me longer than others.
Knowledge opens up worlds but it is limited. We can only really know what we know. Imagination is unlimited. Through imagination, you can do anything. Everything around you started with imagination, started with an idea.
Boys Grow lives by the phrase "Keep the main thing the main thing" which helps everyone focus on the task they are working on individually and what the team wants to accomplish together. Their goal is to create experiences for youth to be a part of something larger than themselves.
Sometimes it is the worst experiences ever that have to shake us up to get us to do what we are really called to do. I was called to teach young students but my true calling in the end was training great teachers.
Relationships form from learning the 90% of those around us. Just get to know one another...embrace the pause of those around us to see what we have in common.
There is a feeling of overwhelm and disillusionment in education right now. It's common to tap into the belief that the "sky is falling". My goal is to provide some hope, inspiration, effective strategies, and ideas to get people excited about teaching and education. Teaching is one of the most important and life-changing things you can do!
Stop, pause, breath, and think! It's okay for students to feel angry, BUT students have to realize they are loved and safe to accept help and change. #ConsciousDiscipline
This work is not about giving up control but giving more control to kids. That can be scary for teachers, but teachers are out there taking risks and trying things. The most important thing is being reflective with their kids and with themselves.
Think big and act small. When a door opens, take it off its hinges and walk through. Don't forget to bring others with you. Stop waiting and start now!
Believe that all kids can learn at high levels. All means all! There are no exceptions. Take special care of teachers' intellect. Nothing is more important than the decisions teachers make everyday. Teachers can make the best decisions for THAT child on THAT day. #LiteracyStudio
