It's time for another exciting episode of Engineering Dreams podcast. I'm your one and only host and guide on this adventure, Shekhar Srinivasan and I'm so pumped to share a fantastic story that's all about the magic of developing an open mindset, especially if you're thinking about studying abroad someday.
Way back in 2004, when I went on this super journey to study abroad to the US, I was kinda like you, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. But guess what? It took me a long time to understand the significance of cultivating an open mindset. I was closed to people, closed to cultures and would hang out with Indians, speak Hindi in presence of foreign nationals. God, I wonder how I would have silently alienated them.
Then in the next semester I had taken up a course in which I was the only Indian. I had never felt so lonely in my life as I did that day. I realized the significance of cultivating an open mindset. By that I mean becoming open to other people, being open to new ideas and experiences and being open to other cultures.
Remember, every moment, every challenge, and every new friend you meet is meant to be a part of your amazing journey. So, as you think about studying abroad, keep that open mindset in your heart and get ready for the ride of a lifetime.
How competitive are the admissions to the Master’s programs in Engineering in the USA? This is a question I am going to be answering in this episode.
“Oh My God, I don’t think I’ll make it to the US. I am not good enough.” I used to think the same way back in 2003. I had no clarity. I was confused.
But, you know what?
A small change in practice, helped me secure admission to one of the best schools in the USA – The University of Texas at Austin. I had never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would make it to that University.
Find out what I did in this episode.
Am I making the right decision by leaving my home country for education? This is the question I have been getting from a lot of my students. I am going to be sharing a few tips on how to take that decision in this episode. Let’s get started.
I am Shekhar Srinivasan and welcome to the Engineering Dreams podcast, a podcast where you gain self-confidence to pursue your higher education dreams and make a fulfilling career. If you haven’t subscribed yet, go ahead and do so to be notified of future episodes.
Ah, the question of whether to leave one's home country for education is indeed an important and personal decision. In 2003, I faced a similar crossroads in my life. At that time, I was a young engineering student with a dream to expand my horizons and pursue higher education in a foreign country.
Of course, every individual's situation is unique, and what worked for me might not necessarily be the best choice for someone else.
Leaving one's home country for education can be both exciting and challenging, but with careful consideration and a sense of adventure, it can open doors to a world of learning opportunities and self-discovery.
How to overcome the feeling of homesickness while staying abroad? This is the question I have been getting from a lot of my students. I am going to be sharing a few tips in this episode. Let’s get started.
Homesickness can be a troublesome feeling for some students. Nearly 43% of international students feel homesick when they travel abroad. Some of these students lose their sleep and that begins to affect their academic performance.
I want to share my experience and how I went about overcoming it.
Welcome to the very first episode of the Engineering dreams podcast. First of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for tuning in. In this episode, I want to set the foundation for why I started this podcast.
I want to emphasize that the road to your Master’s degree is not just about the degree alone. It is a journey that will transform you from within, it is a journey where you will learn how to overcome setbacks, and it is a journey that will grow your self-confidence to an extent that you will be convinced that you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to. If you are committed to a journey of life-long learning, Let’s get started.
