Caffeine and Canines

We are officially back after a month-long podcast hiatus!Since you last heard from us, we’ve been across the pond to Sunny California launching our first ever bootcamp at our brand new facility ‘NorCal Canine Academy’.In this episode we recount our funniest moments of the trip and find out if we can take on a bear (THE Bear) at Bassi Falls (according to ChatGPT).

This week, we get a bit nerdy and dive into the reality of operant conditioning. The textbooks say one thing about how reinforcement and punishment work, but what actually happens when you apply those rules to a dog in a real-world scenario? We break down why the standard behavioural theories might not be as black and white as people think, and explore a controversial question about how we influence our dogs' choices. We also tackle a growing, toxic trend in the modern dog training industry. With trainers increasingly turning on each other online, we discuss what's really driving this behaviour and why absolutely nobody is immune to failure.

We’ve made it to Episode 100!!To mark the occasion, we brought on our most heavily requested guest yet (much to Kirkeys delight) Who tells us some crazy stories from his time on the road.We also take a moment to reflect on how far YCA has come over the last 100 episodes, looking back at some of our favourite client reviews and reacting to a few rogue videos sent in by our comrades.A massive thank you to every single person who has watched, listened, and supported us, we truly wouldn’t be here without you.

There is a rumour going around the dog training industry...Today, we are addressing the accusations head on.We also discuss our favourite moments from our mentorship weekend featuring the Real Slim Shady.Shout out to our sponsors:Twenty Two Eleven | VIP Car Sourcing - https://www.instagram.com/twentytwo_elevenvip/The Canine Carpenter | Dog Training Equipment UK | Handcrafted in Norfolk - https://www.instagram.com/thecaninecarpenter?igsh=MW1rM2x4ZHQ2dDk0Zg==

This week we sit down to discuss whether you should tell your dog what to do, or what not to do. We dive into the controversial reality of "positive only" dog training and discuss how trying to fix your dogs behaviour with obedience, rewards and bribes is actually making them less liberated.Plus, we sit down with Sarah and Shane to talk about their 60kg Cane Corso, Gus. After being dragged into traffic and trying every trick in the book, they share the exact shift in training that finally gave them their confidence back.
