Description

The French called it 'explication de texte': closely observing the what, why, and how of a text as established by the text itself. This is no mere 'arid rationalism'! If God is love (and he is) and if God cares for his people (and he does) then as we delve into his word the trajectory of close reading is nothing less than a life-giving pastoral encounter with the true and faithful shepherd of the sheep. The preaching in this podcast seeks to emulate this truth. As part of the www.scriptorium.net.au repository, it does so conscious of the truth of its tagline: "now, dimly; then: face-to-face".

Gathered: Episode 8. In the immortal words of Depeche Mode: 'Everything Counts in Large Amounts' ... how do we approach diversity in the body? I led a brief question-time at the end of this sermon (also recorded). Parallel evening church sermon (not recorded): 'Who Is Church For?'

Gathered: Episode 9. Sin & Abuse in the Church Too much for one sermon so a little scatter-gun, especially since second lockdown was announced to commence the next day. As a result, the series didn't finish: - Baptism & The Lord's Supper - Church as 'family' and 'body' - Gender & Racial diversity in the church - Who is church 'for'? - Does church have a 'mission', and, if so, what is it?

Gathered: Episode 7. The wardens asked me to preach on money this week. Note that this occurs in two halves: the preaching, and a separate 'wisdom application' that I wanted to keep away from the pulpit. Parallel evening church sermon (not recorded): 'Disagreement, Division, and Discipline in the Church'
