Kajsa Ekis Ekman joins me as we talk about the genocide and war waged on Palestine by Israel. No one wins in this conflict. The left must rebuild itself to play a proper leadership role in Sweden and internationally. Kajsa is a Swedish author of four books, journalist and Ted Talk speaker who lectures on women's rights, capitalism and surrogacy.
Robert Jensen is a retired professor of journalism, media law and ethics from the University of Texas but he's also a life long feminist activist. His book Radical Feminism for Men is one of my favourite feminist books. We talk about male and female relationships, prostitution and pornography , white supremacy and feminists on Gaza. Robert was fun to talk to, felt like a hour went by in 10 minutes. I hope I get to do an interview with him again. Radical Feminism for Men by Robert Jensen can be bought here https://www.spinifexpress.com.au/shop/p/9781742199924 Support my work by following the podcast add me on instagram @sunnyvkcomedy
Trigger warning: Rape, child rape dolls and violence against women are included in the discussion. Writer and Feminist activist Caitlin Roper joins me to talk about her book Sex Dolls, Robots and the AI sex chat industry. Sex dolls are modelled on the bodies and submission of women and allow men unlimited access to a version of a women that doesn't exist. Does this present a threat to women in real life? Is this industry just a kink fringe or another symptom of violence and misogyny  against women and girls.
Palestine has made me think alot about colonial resistance and the Tamil historical fight for a nation of our own. In this episode I talk with author N. Malathy who has written Tamil Female Civil Space: Its Evolution and Decline in Tamil Eelam. In this book Malathy details the history of Tamil women's oppressions and how these women broke free from patriarchy and caste when joining the Tamil Tigers. Malathy has also written A Fleeting Moment in my Country, a personal account of living in the middle of a war on Tamil controlled areas in the North of Sri Lanka.
Join me and my fellow comedian guest Kathryn LeRoux as we discuss various feminist issues and our take on the Swedish comedy scene. Kathryn is an American actress, voice over artist and a seasoned stand up comedian on the Swedish comedy scene. She has appeared in various films and comedy sketches on tv. She has a hilarious comedy sketch on Swedish television on the legalisation of weed (absolutely love that sketch). She's a great friend and comedy colleague of mine and today we're talking on Luis Rubiales's fake feminism, the misogyny we encounter on the comedy scene and the Netflix documentary that came out last month on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Please like and share the podcast. On todays episode I interview award winning journalist and author Tansy Hoskins on her book the Anti Capitalist Book of Fashion. We discuss how fashion is political and violent under capitalism. 'Moving between Karl Lagerfeld and Karl Marx' Tansy reveals the truth behind the fashion industry and how we can take it back for ourselves. This is a book every leftie should read. Part 2 with political comedian and writer Kate Smurthwaite
Kate Smurthwaite is a British comedian and a political activist with 20 years under her belt in the London comedy scene. She has appeared on numerous British talk shows and has written for the Guardian, Independent and other publications. Kate talks to me about being a female comedian in a male dominated industry and how to merge social activism with comedy.
Sadaf Ahmadi says her art is not against Islam but political islam, but given the recent Quran burnings and terror threats in Sweden, curator of the culture centre in Borås wanted to cancel her exhibition. Her art was potentially seen as too provocative which could be a potential security threat. Sadaf is not trying to be provocative but wants to express without restrictions the painful consequences of living under a totalitarian religious regime. Finally after national and local media coverage in Sweden and public pushback Sadaf can continue her full exhibition set for September and October. The opening of her exhibition is timed to commemorate the tragic death of Jina Mahsa Amini on September 16 2022. Jina Mahsa Amini was a 22 year old Kurdish woman who was taken into police custody for not wearing her hijab correctly. She was tortured and murdered for it. This sparked off a mass revolutionary movement against the Iranian regime that still continues today. This is a three part interview where I begin with an introduction. Its three parts cause I'm shit at podcasting and I'm trying to get better. The important thing is that you listen to what Sadaf says and how she creates her art. Please take at look at her website and instagram and make it to Borås for the viewing. http://sadafahmadi.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sadafarin
