NBN is back with a preview of the Six Nations, the low down on the goings on at Saracens and some love for Joe Root's band of merry men in South Africa. The pod also looks ahead to what's to come in 2020 from Wisconsin to Tokyo and everywhere in between. HNY listeners!
It's Christmastime, there's no need to be afraid, because NBN is back with festive special! Stephen is on the line from Sydney and Finn's on the eggnog in London. The annual quiz goes down to the wire and yuletide harmony breaks out during the NBN Awards Show. So here's to you listener, raise a glass for everyone.
NBN: Tokyo Drift. The pod previews the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan with some punchy calls and round up of what we're excited about. Godzilla, typhoons and bad impersonations all feature (with special apologies to Bill McLaren), and Harry Bradwell is back by popular demand for a guest appearance. We hope you enjoy!
Is Nick Kyrgios a kn*bhead? NBN gives is verdict on the enigmatic Australian tennis player. As is to be expected - opinions are divided!
NBN's originals are back together struggling to make sense of a ridiculous few weeks of sport. Novak's got his 16th, England won their 1st and Shane held his nerve on the 18th. Finn has tales from the "Algarve" and Stephen has a confession of intergalactic proportions. We get our quiz on and Irish Rugby doesn't get a mention!
NBN is back with a St Patrick's day episode featuring and Ode to Alun Wyn, a Sexton Lament and a shout out to Alvaro Recoba. Finn brings the Guinness, Rob's talking pucks and you, dear listener, are in luck.
The original NBN gang are back together for a big fat quiz of the year and our very own glitzy awards ceremony. Oh Holy Night what a show we've got in store for you!
Dream dinner party guests are the subject of discussion in the latest NBN podlet. Vegetarian cyclists, mediocre tennis players and aquatic cricketers all vie for a spot at the most exclusive of evenings. Get in touch and let us know who you'd want as your sporty plus 1!
Jules Rimet has finished shanking his four-iron into bushes, and is settling down to watch the Ryder Cup. Find out which American golfer Rob would like to 'hit with a bat' and we also get the perspective of 'Golfbot and Liquid Draino' - no, it's not the latest crimebusting duo, they're European and American golf fans (and our mates!). Harold and Rob look back at the fairytale ending to a summer of cricket, culminating in Alistair Chef's retirement and Jimm(iny cricket) Anderson breaking fast-bowling records. We also talk the mentality of the batting order, which Rob thinks is 'absolute rubbish.' We finish up with Winners and Losers - featuring our good friend Ryan Kerr, and the ol' state-sponsored dopers themselves, Russia.
NBN's International Series concludes with an update from NBN Founding Father Stephen Finlay in Sydney. We talk AFL, NRL and...what-the-hell!? - basketball brawls in Manila.
NBN's International Series continues with a journey to the Great Lakes where our own Paddy McFadden is on hand to give the pod the latest on the NFL's "kneel-gate", soccer-ball and Lebron. Politics may rear it's ugly, orange and ludicrously combed-over head in this one - you have been warned!
NBN's International Series starts with a trip to Lebanon to talk all things sporty with friend of the pod and expat Colin Williamson. Come for the sport but be enchanted by the celebratory gunfire!
Your latest NBN instalment features a review of Russia 2018, Wimbledon, Le Tour and the Open. The pod is lucky enough to be joined by touch rugby's own Billy Kenber who is on debut extolling the virtues of Luka Modric and Croatian beer.
NBN 26 features a pod debut for Harry Bradwell who has tales from Africa, a review of the sporting summer so far and a look ahead to the treats on the horizon. We also mention the VAR but reckon we'll get away with it.
We go to, and watch quite a lot of sport. On occasion, we've found it amusing to make little live interviews with the people who we are at sport with - getting the reaction and sampling the... atmosphere on the day. This is a compilation edition of the sporting events we attended over the last year or so, in order: 1. Barbarians vs. New Zealand at Twickenham (rugby union) 2. Ireland vs. South Africa at Lansdowne Road (rugby union) 3. Ireland winning the Six Nations a week early (rugby union) 4. Ireland winning the Grand Slam a week later at Twickenham (rugby union) 5. Surrey vs. Hampshire at The Oval (cricket) Warning: Some beers may have been harmed in the making of this podcast.
The word 'mercurial' is thrown around willy, and indeed, nilly. But some recent retirements in the world of sport have seen some of the truly mercurial hang up their boots and their bats. From Kevin Pietersen to Freddy Michalak, we have a look back at some of the sports stars who have made us feel a bit funny inside.
In the second and final episode of our Australian season - and Steve's last recorded episode - we discuss who the greatest Australian sportsperson is. Features some rogue shouts throughout, including mediocre golfers, a resilient fly-half, nobody, and man named Don.
Warning - this episode contains Australian impressions which some listeners may find disturbing. Welcome back. We've been away for a little bit with real life getting in the way, but we have a bumper episode for you. Steve is moving down under, which gives us the excuse to celebrate / commiserate all things sporting an Australian. There is a look back at some of the nation's most infamous sporting controversies, a look forward to a summer test series vs. an Irish rugby team on a winning streak - and some winners and losers.
NBN 15 features a chat with ex-pro golfer Lene Krog all the way from Oslo and a review of Ireland's Six Nations Grand Slam. The Podders also manage to laud Kevin Pietersen, offend Sergio Garcia and salute Team GB heroics at the Winter Paralympics
The pod talk 6 Nations and cricket tours before welcoming a special guest quiz master to test their knowledge on some of the lesser known Winter Olympic facts. The lads seem more pre-occupied with their buzzers than getting the right answers but you're guaranteed to learn a thing or 2!
