Diana Hall went to UC Berkeley and graduated with a B.A. in psychology. Her early career was as a special education teacher. During her many years serving children who were on the spectrum she earned five different credentials in her field and experienced much success engaging her students with experiential interventions.   When she met Virginia Satir, she was inspired to go to grad school and later earned a master's degree in counseling. Diana became a licensed marriage and family therapist applying the Satir Model to help high conflict couples and their children. She became well-known and was invited to present at conferences in relation to her work with domestic violence and couple therapy. While Diana’s relationship to Virginia Satir began as a student, apprentice, and employee of Virginia Satir, Diana Hall reports that it was a great blessing in her life to have become a close friend, confidant, and a dear companion. Diana Hall was named the Satir Global Network Living Treasure in 2016. It is with great joy I welcome Diana Hall as our guest for today’s episode
We have a special treat today as we are honoring the work and life of Dr. Janet Christie-Seely.  She is an important figure in the Virginia Satir world, passing away in 2022 after a battle with Alzheimer’s and complications from Covid.  I will be talking to her surviving husband,  Tom Wright and his and Janet’s friends, Dr. John Banmen and Dr. Richard Kennedy.  Dr. Janet Christie-Seely was a vibrant mother, grandmother, family physician, family therapist, author, artist, lecturer, professor, and trainer of the Satir Model. Janet is remembered for being an avid learner, creative, intelligent, a beautiful spirit, and a non- judgmental human. She pioneered a family systems approach to family medicine, bridging family therapy and medicine, and founded the Ottawa Satir Learning Centre. Janet taught locally and internationally. Janet always saw the best in people and lived life to its absolute fullest with enthusiasm and passion. She leaves a legacy of her paintings, her teachings, her care for a community of patients, and her family, all infused with her revolutionary spirit of meaningful interaction, pioneering innovation, and desire to help people. https://satirglobal.org/tributes/ https://satirglobal.org/product/temperature-reading-poster-pdf/

Today, I have planned a special treat for listeners as I lead us in "The Breath of Life," one of Virginia Satir's meditations published in "Guided Meditations and Inspirations" by Virginia Satir, edited by John Banmen in 2020. This meditation invites us to connect with the essence of our being, to breathe in the gift of life, and to embrace the present moment with gratitude and awareness. Virginia Satir used her guided meditations as a way of helping a group of people become centered and in touch with the physical, cognitive, and intuitive parts of themselves.  Her purpose was to help people grow and fully experience their life energy, access their internal resources and nurture a connection with the universe or their creator.  Before we begin, I must offer a word of caution: Please do not listen to this podcast episode while driving or engaged in any other activity that requires your full attention. These meditations are meant to be experienced in a safe and comfortable environment, where you can fully immerse yourself in the practice without distraction. So, find a quiet space where you can sit or lay down, ready your eyes to close, and prepare yourself to be fully present in this moment. As we embark on this journey inward, may you find peace, clarity, and renewal in Virginia Satir's timeless wisdom. Throughout a career spanning five decades, Dr. Hilda Richards has consistently broken barriers and forged historic change, specifically in the fields of nursing and higher learning. Over the years, at numerous institutions and organizations, she has been dedicated to expanding what we refer to today as diversity, equity, and inclusion. Born in 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri, Hilda was inspired early on by her mother’s belief in the value of education. Nursing school was the first step in a trajectory that eventually included earning two master’s degrees (in health administration and psychiatric nursing) and a doctorate in education from Columbia University. Among many other accomplishments, Hilda helped create the nursing program at Medgar Evers College of Brooklyn in 1972, where she became chair of the health sciences division. This opened the door for her leadership roles in academic administration as dean, provost, and chancelor—often as the first Black woman ever to hold her position. In this episode, Dr. Hilda Richards talks about her inspiring life which includes time spent with Virginia Satir.
