The Mystery of Bobby Dunbar

The Mystery of Bobby Dunbar

2023-03-2101:32:11

On August 23, 1912, a four-year-old boy named Bobby Dunbar vanished while on a fishing trip to Swayze Lake in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. When Mrs. Lessie Dunbar realized that her son was gone, she contacted the police, who began a massive search for the boy. Eight months passed before the family’s hopes for Bobby’s return were finally realized —– or at least that’s how it seemed. But no part of this story would turn out to be simple. The boy who returned home was NOT Bobby Dunbar.Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
A newspaper in 1910 wrote about Dorothy:"She disappeared from one of the busiest streets on earth, at the sunniest hours of a brilliant afternoon, with thousands within sight and reach, men and women who knew her on every side, and officers of the law thickly strewn in her path."Such a young woman simply does not just disappear. And yet she did. Because no matter how perfect Dorothy seemed, not everything was as it appeared.Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
In 1874, just nine years after President Lincoln was slain, the nation was again shocked by a terrible event. It was not the death of a great leader but the disappearance of a previously unknown four-year-old name Charles Brewster Ross. “Little Charlie Ross” – as Americans would soon know him – was stolen away in what became the first kidnapping for ransom in the history of the United States.Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Man In The Green Pajamas

It was at the Sandman where the man in the green pajamas was staying when he came to Jacksonville. Of course, that wasn’t his name. It was Bruce Campbell, and he was a stockbroker from Massachusetts. He came here to visit his son, who was then a professor at MacMurray College in town. Bruce’s first grandchild had just been born and it was meant to be a happy visit for the family. But it turned out to be a tragic one.Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In fact, one of the most baffling vanishings of all time simply couldn’t have happened – and yet it did.Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Lawson Family Christmas

The Lawson Family Christmas

2022-12-0601:40:56

Charlie Lawson, the quiet, unassuming man had become more outgoing, especially with the children. He laughed and told jokes, which he never did. His wife might have been happy with those changes in her husband if they hadn’t been so abrupt – and if Charlie had not been spending an inordinate amount of time with their 17-year-old daughter, Marie. Something terrible was going to happen, and it would ruin Christmas in a way that only murder and tragedy can do. Get a FREE 15 day trial of Backblaze at https://backblaze.com/hauntingsGet 20% OFF Manscaped + Free Shipping with promo code AHP at MANSCAPED.com! #ad #manscapedpodTimestamps:Monologue: 00:00:00 - 00:53:00Discussion: 00:54:00 - 01:38:00Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckMusic for this season is performed by Packy Lundholm and you can find more about his music and upcoming shows on Twitter, Instagram, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Facebook, YouTube, and PackyLundholm.com Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Victims of the Ax Fiend

Victims of the Ax Fiend

2022-11-2201:33:181

One of the strangest murder sprees in American history occurred across Louisiana and Texas in the early 1910s. Local newspapers called the first crime "the most brutal murder in the history of this section," and there would be many more -- all linked to the same killer. The newspapers of the era, dealing with murder victims that were all African-Americans, claimed the killings were connected to a deranged Voodoo woman and a cult called the "Church of Sacrifice," which used the victims for bloody rituals. The story wasn't true – the real story may have been even stranger – and they remain unsolved.Get a FREE 15 day trial of Backblaze at https://backblaze.com/hauntingsGet 20% OFF Manscaped + Free Shipping with promo code AHP at MANSCAPED.com! #ad #manscapedpodTimestamps:Monologue: 00:00:00 - 00:38:00Discussion: 00:42:09 - 01:31:00Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckMusic for this season is performed by Packy Lundholm and you can find more about his music and upcoming shows on Twitter, Instagram, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Facebook, YouTube, and PackyLundholm.com Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/american-hauntings-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

During the early years of the Great Depression, the crimes of Harry Powers appalled and fascinated thousands of people, but he is barely remembered today – much like the methods that he used to find his victims. He sought out women through matrimonial mail-order ads, seeking wives to live on his peaceful West Virginia farm. The Starved Rock Murders

2022-10-1801:42:081

On March 14, 1960, the bodies of three women from the Chicago suburbs were discovered in St. Louis Canyon, one of the many natural wonders at Starved Rock State Park, near Utica, Illinois. The crime shocked northern Illinois and led to a manhunt that snared a confessed killer who spent the next 59 years behind bars. It is one of the most shocking stories to ever occur in this otherwise peaceful region – and it left lingering spirits behind.Get a FREE 15 day trial of Backblaze at https://backblaze.com/hauntingsGet 20% OFF Manscaped + Free Shipping with promo code AHP at MANSCAPED.com! #ad #manscapedpodSponsored by BetterHelp. One of the most disturbing multiple murders in California history occurred on April 11, 1981, when three victims – a mother, her teenage son, and the son's friend – were beaten to death in a remote cabin in the woods while children slept soundly in the next room. A fourth victim – a 12-year-old daughter – vanished in the night, and her body was found a year later, miles away from the gruesome scene. The murders remain unsolved to this day, but it went on to inspire THE STRANGERS, one of the most terrifying films ever made.Get a FREE 15 day trial of Backblaze at https://backblaze.com/hauntingsGet 20% OFF Manscaped + Free Shipping with promo code AHP at MANSCAPED.com! #ad #manscapedpodSponsored by BetterHelp. On January 23, 1897, the body of a young woman named Zona Heaster Shue was discovered in her home in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. It seemed to be a rather ordinary case of perhaps domestic discord gone wrong, but in the end, the case turned out to be anything but ordinary. In fact, it went on to become the only case in which the word of a ghost helped to solve a crime and convict a murderer!Sponsored by BetterHelp. Murder On Saxtown Road

Murder On Saxtown Road

2022-08-2351:24

On March 19, 1874, horror came to the small town of Millstadt, Illinois. It was a place where nothing bad could ever really happen – or at least that's what the residents there in the latter part of the nineteenth century believed. However, the murders that occurred on Saxtown Road forever shattered that illusion. When a local German family was brutally slaughtered in 1874, it created a dark, unsolved mystery – and a haunting that continues today.Sponsored by BetterHelp. On November 16, 1982, two Wyoming highway patrolmen discovered an abandoned car along a desolate stretch of rural highway. The engine was running, the driver's door was standing open, but the driver was gone. The car belonged to successful ad executive Don Kemp, and the story of his disappearance is one of the strangest in modern history, filled with twists, turns, and many unanswered questions.Sponsored by BetterHelp. One of the most shameful events to ever occur in American history happened in the small southern Illinois town of Herrin in the summer of 1922. It would be a horrific labor union massacre that would garner national outrage and would forever stain the area with blood. It would also leave behind a fearful haunting that would linger in a place outside of town called Harrison Woods for more than three decades after the carnage occurred. The ghosts remained as a reminder of the dark deeds of man.Sponsored by BetterHelp. Love the first part of show. So much shorter than the last 3/4s.of it. Guys its TOOO boring. Remember history class back in the day? Teacher droning on and on? Truth be told, and cold, this is just the same. Really, do a survey of 100 folks. This IS an area lacking in talent and presenting.

This is a well researched and very informative podcast... However, I opted to discontinue my subscription after the completely unnecessary personal views about the "pandemic" were brought up, including an attack on those with well researched and extremely valid science based opposing views. Quite a shame, really, as the pandemic has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this podcast.

You know you can't get enough of Cody and Troy when you have to keep reminding yourself that they air every two weeks. This season has been my saving grace since I've been homesick for months living in another state. I'm so glad y'all did a season just on New Orleans, I've gotten to experience things about my city in ways I never thought imaginable, yet Cody and Troy have brought me there.

My husband and I have been listening to your podcast for a little while. But you've made some ridiculously, unwarranted politically divisive comments. As well as spreading misinformation about historical events. Such as the one about the Boston Tea Party and the Civil War. We'd considered making a donation to help your endeavors but have such opted against doing so. Your personal opinions are yours and are respected, but, the twisting of historical facts are not respectable acts. We will gladly find another to leave an endowment to do research in the historical, paranormal field. Another factor, is that your cohost promotes himself as being a drunkard, while working, this also a factor in our decision.

Hey guys! First off, we love your show! we have passed Alton several times and never knew it had such a colorful past. With that said, I did have some issues with episode 10. The subject of slavery is touchy at best. And the civil war was fought for several reasons, northern aggression against states sovereignty in my opinion was the top. But people have their opinion and I try to respect that. But you made a severe mistake when you said "The northern states had banned slavery. But the founders were slave owners." When the revolution started and we declared our independence, there was only 13 colonies or states. Slavery was the law of the land in all 13 colonies. And even though men like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson disliked the notion of slavery, Law at the time dictated that if you had debt of any size you could not simply set your slaves free. They were looked at as property. Like I said, I love your show! But touching on subjects outside of the realm of haunting and such, tread carefully please! Especially where people still today argue over them. You could lose alot of your audience and not even know why.
