Mark Wood is a Polar explorer, expedition leader, professional speaker and educator. After serving in the British Army, and then as a firefighter, he moved into full-time expedition leadership. He was the first person to ski solo and unsupported to both the Geographic North and South Poles consecutively. He has now completed more than 30 major polar and mountain expeditions from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica, the Himalayas and Mount Everest, to Alaska - spanning solo record attempts, guiding TV crews, and large-scale youth education programmes reaching over a million students. His upcoming "Rediscover Expedition” is a series of expeditions in areas of the planet that are becoming climate change hotspots, and he will bring this firsthand experience to students all over the world. In this episode, Mark takes us inside the mind of an extreme solo explorer. How he deals with fear of the unknown. How he makes critical decisions and then deals with their consequences. And then as an expedition leader, how he checks in with his team and really understands how they are doing. Mark's openness about the emotional side of exploration, paired with his humor, made for a conversation as human as it is high-performing.Website: https://www.markwoodexplorer.com/Email: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Duncan Taylor grew up living and working with his brothers on a farm in Kentucky with their father and farm manager, Joe. In 1976, aged just 19, he cofounded a small broodmare horse boarding farm on a small piece of leased land. Over the next few decades, this small boarding operation would grow into Taylor Made Farm, spanning 1600 acres in the heart of Kentucky Horse Country. It has foaled and raised some of the horse racing's biggest stars. Taylor Made isn't just a horse farm — it's the largest Thoroughbred sales operation in North America and home to one of the world's most successful stallions, and it's been built and run by the same family for almost 50 years, starting with literally two pickup trucks and $10,000.In this episode, Duncan takes us inside Taylor Made Farm, and we discuss how such a successful business was born from small beginnings. We unpack fascinating lessons in entreprenuership, getting started, being a good boss, and how continued success requires always looking for a better way.https://taylormadefarm.com/The Taylor Made "Core Values": Be Honest and Transparent Care for Our Customers, our Team Members, and Horses like they are Family Deliver Smiles Through Service Have Fun while Striving for Excellence Always Look for a Better Way Hosted on Acast.
