Description

Welcome to Earthmates where we explore how to find your path from climate anxiety to community action.

Despite the vast majority of people feeling concerned about our planet, the question “What can I do? 🤷🏽” is collectively stuck on repeat.  So I think it’s about time we start asking a much more curious set of questions like, “Who are you?  And how do you show up in relationship?” Because that matters!

Yep, it’s gonna get raw and real (but also playful and silly) as together we discover how your sense of being and belonging with planet, self, and others can help you imagine and create what's possible through the lens of the 5 Earth Archetypes.

Host Amber Peoples chats with her friends about what it means to inhabit their archetype, waxes poetic about her own, and sits with elders that break the mold in wonderful ways.
Who will you resonate with? Who will stretch you to think differently? Who will inspire change?

What is your Earth Archetype?  Take the Quiz!https://quiz.eartharchetypes.com/Youth voices are vital in climate and environmental justice.  What they’ve inherited is the advancement of things like smart phones and also the destabilization of most natural systems.  On this penultimate episode of Earthmates’ first season, we look to the future with 19 year old Mari Dela Cruz.  Taking the quiz during the recent Youth Climate Summit at Lewis & Clark Law School, Mari embraced how her Weaver Earth Archetype affirmed her passion for bringing people together and bridging gaps combines her passions for mental health, diverse populations, computers, and entrepreneurship.Listen in as she shares how her Gen Z playfulness helps her navigate the environmental action she knows is needed.Learn more about Mari via Instagram or TikTok@mariposa.maids@makeithappen.mari@scrapbook.pdxIf you’d like to have Amber share Earth Archetypes at your upcoming event, reach out HERE.  And if you liked this episode, you'll also enjoy my 2 part podcast with Weaver Type Stephanie Zhong.  Episodes 4 & 5.  Or Weaver Tressa Yonekawa.  Episode 13.Or even double Weavers Sej and Anabelle.  Episode 15. Connect with the Community:Watch episodes on YouTubeCheck out the WebsiteTake the What is Your Earth Archetype? What is your Earth Archetype?  Take the Quiz!https://quiz.eartharchetypes.com/Each episode has a unique journey to get to you.  This one required some gestation.  For you.  For me.  For Kawenniiosta.  For the season. For tech.  For a life force of its own.  When Earthmates was still just an idea, some potential partners guided me to a video of Kawenniiosta Jock speaking at the Waterfall Unity Festival where she emphasized the power of embodiment.  Her power, compassion, humility, and curiosity struck me, and I feel so fortunate this episode is now ready to share.  Drawing from personal life experiences ranging from ancestors to hawks and water to blood, Kawenniiosta encourages us to go on a journey to self - one that asks us to both commit and surrender.  One that opens us to intuition and reciprocity.  Listen in for guidance on how to tap into your own connection to the elements and start feeling like a wizard.  Learn more about Kawenniiosta and her return to her ancestral homelands:  https://www.waterfallunityalliance.org/ If you like this episode, you’ll like episode 8 with Embodiment Natalie Cutsforth. Discover how the Earth Archetypes came to be. What is your Earth Archetype?  Take the Quiz!https://quiz.eartharchetypes.com/When I ran across the “Illuminating Climate Era Mindset” report, it was similar to when I discovered the scientific study of emergence and awe.  A deep curiosity of what science could tell me about experiences I’ve had for decades.  This time about creativity.Created for COP28, it showed the correlation between optimism and creativity – specifically for encourage work environments that would nurture climate innovations.  Diving in, I found out that one of the scientific advisors for the report is an expert in the science of creativity, Nathaniel Barr.Instantly, I reached out and found a wonderful human on the other side.  Here we continue the conversation with questions about the definition of creativity, inquiry in science, and transparency in research.  Talking about the report, the video version even shows 2 of the pages – including the cool graph showing the correlation between optimism and creativity.  Then during the grand finale, Nathaniel shares where he falls on that spectrum.  Join us for the journey!Resource:  Illuminating the Climate Era Mindset ReportListen to how the Earth Archetypes came to be. What is your Earth Archetype?  Take the Quiz!https://quiz.eartharchetypes.com/The root word “eco” is Greek for home.  So ecology is really the study of home, and economics is the management of home.  For Network Type AJ Schlenger, these two aspects came together as he studied ocean systems.  Why?  Because the current greatest impact on natural systems is how humans assign value – which is mostly through money.  So AJ now focuses on supporting startups to create value with nature-based solutions and navigating out of date regulations that can get in the way.  Yet, the conversation quickly reveals that underneath the power of the dollar lies something even more valuable:  relationships.  Listen in for how AJ advocates for a truly Networked style of communication.  Adam Schlenger (PhD) has a multidisciplinary background in oceanography, systems science, and natural resource management, aimed at understanding the complex interactions between human and natural systems to tackle global environmental issues and facilitate fast scaling solutions. His work currently focuses on taking scientific innovation and emerging technology out of the lab and into direct applications that positively impact both people and the natural world to create equitable and sustainable approaches to solving major challenges like climate change.Connect with AJ on LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/adam-schlenger-phd-8a80584a/****Check out how the Earth Archetypes came to be in the first episode – “5 Earth Archetypes Explained: Origin Story”And if you liked this episode, listen to the conversation with Network Type Freddie Davis III.  Connect with the Community:Watch episodes on YouTubeCheck out the WebsiteTake the What is Your Earth Archetype? What is your Earth Archetype?  Take the Quiz!In this conversation, Amber connects with elder, song carrier, and grief tender Laurence Cole.  Like a fine 80 year old wine, his complexity extends beyond any one Earth Archetype.  In Laurence’s own words, “I have had one abiding thread of interest throughout my life; that is, when, where and how have human beings lived in a respectful, sacred, equitable relationship with each other and the rest of nature, and what arts and practices enabled them to do so and transmit such attitudes and behaviors to the coming generations.”With an almost ASMR quality, listen in for both the importance and the technologies of belonging and connection. (Hint: this does not have anything to do with social media).  In fact, all 4 technologies can be done with just the human body.  As you’ll soon hear, tapping into ancestral wisdom definitely helps too.  Then delve into the power of rituals, the role of witnessing in creating a sense of community, and reciprocal relationship.  You are even welcome to join Laurence in song throughout the episode as we build a container to hold each other well. ______If you like this episode, listen to how the Earth Archetypes came to be.
