I grew up in the Michigan City area and graduated from Marquette High School as Salutatorian. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1988 cum laude, and then graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1991. After Law School, I married my wife, Mary, and we just marked our 35th wedding anniversary earlier this year. We have been blessed with 7 children that we happily raised in LaPorte County, and now have 7 grandchildren with another one on the way. Family is very important to us, and we care deeply about our community and the safety of all who live or visit here. After getting married, in 1991, I started as an Associate with the law firm of Newby, Lewis, Kaminski & Jones, handling criminal defense and civil litigation cases. In 1995, Mary and I formed our own law firm Lake & Lake, and I handled civil business litigation cases and other civil work. I also started as a part-time deputy prosecuting attorney in 1995 under Cindy Hedge in LaPorte Superior Court No. 4 handling Misdemeanor and Class D Felony cases. In October of 1995, I moved to the felony deputy position in LaPorte Superior Court No. 2, handling the Department of Corrections prosecutions, which I did on and off for approximately 20 years. Under Rob Beckman, in 1999, I handled major felony and murder cases in LaPorte Circuit Court. In 2015, I became a full-time deputy prosecutor under John Espar handling major felony and murder cases in LaPorte Superior Court No. 1. In 2017, I went to work for the Indiana Attorney General's Office as a deputy attorney general in the Medicaid Fraud Unit handling Medicaid fraud and drug prosecutions across the State of Indiana. I became the elected LaPorte County Prosecutor in 2019. I currently work as a full-time deputy prosecutor in St. Joseph County handling murder cases and major felonies. I have worked for 5 different elected prosecutors and 1 Attorney General during my 32 years as a prosecutor or deputy attorney general. I have extensive trial experience having tried over 100 bench/jury trials in my career.”END BIO#CandidCandidateConversations and #MeetTheCandidate spots are a chance for you, the voter, to hear from and meet people that are on the ballot. Tim Stabosz, 58, moved to La Porte County in his early 20s, went to Catholic grade school and an all-boys Catholic high school, graduating 6thin a class of 388. He graduated from DePaul University in 1990 with an accounting degree, and worked for two years, right out of college, as a federal credit union auditor. He explained, “In that job, it was the responsibility of the federal agency I worked for to protect the credit union’s safety and soundness, the depositors, the federal insurance fund, and ultimately the credit union members from fraud or mismanagement." He served 2 terms as a La Porte City Councilman under Leigh Morris and Blair Milo, and served as LaPorte County Auditor (the chief financial officer of the county) from 2021-2024. Stabosz has been a professional investor in the stock market the last 35 years, with expertise in the field of money and finance. He has been very successful in his investing career, and has at times operated as a shareholder activist, drawing attention to, and publicly fighting against, corporate executives with sky-high pay, that fleece shareholders, who are supported by “rubber stamp” boards of directors. Locally, he is the longest serving active member of the local non-profit Preserve Historic La Porte and has been its President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, at different times. Additionally, he has been a major supporter of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, including as a sponsor of the symphony’s Children Concerts. Over the last many months, he has been systematically going through the Billboard popular music charts from 1953-1990, and assembling a carefully curated collection of songs. Stabosz also is a musician, having taken piano lessons for 13 years, and having played trumpet in grade school and high school. He is a former collector and restorer of electro-mechanical pinball machines. Meet Olga Pecanac, candidate for LaPorte County Council District 1. We ask all of our guests to send us a bio and here’s what we were sent:BIO“I’m a mom, a business owner, and a Town Council member, and I know how much local decisions affect our everyday lives. As a business owner, I have seen what happens when roads close with no notice, when construction drags on, or when families and small businesses are left out of the conversation. That is one of the reasons I decided to get involved in local government in the first place.I believe people deserve leaders who are practical, approachable, and focused on solving problems. Local government should be about fixing roads, supporting first responders, protecting libraries and parks, and making sure families feel like they have someone looking out for them.I’m running for County Council because I want to keep bringing that same common-sense approach to the issues that matter most.”END BIO#CandidCandidateConversations and #MeetTheCandidate spots are a chance for you, the voter, to hear from and meet people that are on the ballot.
