Award-winning fashion and portrait photographer Bronwyn Kidd joins The Camera Life to share her journey from Melbourne to London’s haute couture scene. She dives deep into film vs digital photography, working with Polaroids on set, trusting creative instincts, and crafting timeless portraits — including her Martin Cantor Portrait Prize-winning image. Bronwyn also reveals her favorite cameras, lighting setups, and why choosing the right gear is deeply personal. This episode is a masterclass in fashion photography, artistic evolution, and staying true to your creative voice.=========================================== Bronwyn Kidd is an Australian photographer known for her fashion and portraiture. She pursued photography early, leaving RMIT before finishing her degree to build hands-on industry experience through internships and assistant roles in Melbourne. At 23, Kidd moved to London (1992), where she quickly established herself in high-end commercial photography. Her career accelerated after being commissioned to shoot exclusively for Sir Hardy Amies’ Savile Row collections. Her work draws heavily on the legacy of haute couture photography, blending nostalgia with wit and subtle subversion. Influences range from Cecil Beaton and Norman Parkinson to Sarah Moon and Helmut Newton. Kidd’s images often carry a cinematic atmosphere, inviting viewers to project their own narratives of identity and desire rather than focusing solely on the subject. Her portraits of major fashion figures are held by institutions including the National Portrait Gallery, London, and she continues to shape contemporary fashion imagery through cultural and advertising commissions in Australia. Australian landscape photographer Adam Edwards joins The Camera Life to discuss outback photography, running a regional gallery, creative burnout, and finding meaning beyond social media. From Broken Hill to Kenya, Adam shares deep insights into landscape mindset, gear choices, workshops, and why patience and presence matter more than perfect conditions. A thoughtful conversation on photography as passion, profession, and lifelong journey. =========================================== Shaped by life in the Australian outback, Adam's work is grounded in patience, adaptability, and making the most of imperfect conditions. Years spent refining both capture and post-production have led to a deeply personal and authentic approach to image-making, with a strong focus on process over perfection. In 2025, Adam took a significant step by opening a gallery in Broken Hill, creating not just a place to exhibit his work, but a creative hub that celebrates the region and brings people together through photography. Alongside his own practice, Adam is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring, running workshops and building supportive communities for photographers at all stages. For Adam, photography is about more than the final image, it’s about the journey, the people, and the places that shape every frame. Adam runs workshops, mentors photographers, and continues to build spaces where people can connect, learn, and be inspired.
