Marriage is rarely defined by the grand milestones everyone sees. More often, it’s shaped by the ordinary moments no one else notices. The conversations after a long day. Choosing forgiveness instead of keeping score. Showing up when life is busy, messy, and far from perfect. Decade after decade, those ordinary days become an extraordinary legacy.
In this episode of Sisters on Purpose, we’re reflecting on what has sustained our marriages after more than thirty years together. All of us married in our twenties, and while every marriage has its own story, we’ve discovered that lasting love isn’t about finding the perfect spouse. It’s about two imperfect people continually surrendering their hearts to God.
We’ll share some of the things that surprised us over the years, the lessons we never expected to learn, and how grace has become one of the greatest gifts in marriage. We’ve learned that one of the most powerful prayers isn’t asking God to change our spouse, but asking Him to change us. As He transforms our hearts, He often changes the way we love, communicate, forgive, and serve one another.
Scripture
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
1 Peter 4:8
Whether you’ve been married for a few months or several decades, we hope this conversation reminds you that healthy marriages aren’t built overnight. They’re built through daily faithfulness, intentional love, and a willingness to keep choosing each other, one ordinary day at a time.
Why We Need Intentional Community
The plans we make for time together don’t always unfold the way we expect. In this episode, we reminisce about past sister weekends and the weekend Jeannette and Christine had planned for this year, which will now be postponed until next year.
Our own sister weekend came sooner than this episode could be released. After our eldest sister experienced a stroke, we spent the first weekend in October at Craig Hospital together. It was a different kind of gathering, shaped by concern, love, and the need to be present for one another.
We still have so many good stories and reflections from our time together to share. In this conversation, we also honor tender moments with our sisters Christine and Maria and reflect on why showing up for one another matters.
Intentional community grows through planned gatherings and the everyday connections in between: the calls, messages, check-ins, and small moments that help us stay part of one another’s lives. Community is built over time, through shared memories, honest conversations, and the choice to stay close through life’s unexpected turns.
Have you ever looked back on a moment from your life and realized, God was there all along?
In this episode of Sisters on Purpose, we’re reflecting on the quiet ways God has been faithful throughout our lives. Some of His greatest work doesn’t happen in the moments that seem extraordinary. It happens in the ordinary days, the unexpected challenges, the unanswered questions, and even the seasons we would never choose for ourselves.
As we revisit childhood memories, pivotal life experiences, and seasons of both joy and hardship, we’re reminded that hindsight often reveals what faith couldn’t fully see in the moment. Those “aha” moments become powerful reminders that God was guiding, protecting, preparing, and providing long before we recognized His hand.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
We invite you to pause and reflect on your own story. Where have you seen God’s fingerprints? What once felt like coincidence may now look like providence. What once seemed like a detour may have been part of His perfect plan all along.
May this conversation encourage you to trust that the same faithful God who carried you through your past is walking with you today and will remain faithful in every season still to come.
We live in a world where information never stops. Headlines, opinions, notifications, social media, and constant updates compete for our attention every day. Yet the more we consume, the less peace many of us seem to have.
In this episode, we’re talking about the difference between being informed and becoming overwhelmed. We’ll explore why protecting your heart and mind is not avoidance, but wisdom. Together, we’ll discuss how to quiet the noise, refocus on what truly matters, and create space to hear God’s voice above the world’s endless distractions.
Scripture: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” Isaiah 26:3
If you’ve been feeling mentally exhausted, emotionally stretched, or simply longing for a little more calm in your life, this conversation is for you. Let’s discover how less noise can lead to more peace, more clarity, and a deeper trust in God’s presence.
Parenting changes with every season, but one thing remains true: we never stop learning. From raising young children to navigating the teenage years and building relationships with adult children, each stage brings its own joys, challenges, and opportunities to grow.
Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Our role may change as our children grow, but our influence does not disappear.
In this episode of Sisters on Purpose, we reflect on what parenting has taught us through the years, including the lessons we learned later than we would have liked. We talk about releasing expectations, extending grace to ourselves and our children, praying more than we try to control, and trusting God with the parts of their stories we cannot write for them.
Whether you are in the exhausting early years, the stretching teenage years, or learning how to parent adult children, we hope this conversation reminds you that you do not have to parent perfectly to parent faithfully.
