Description

VW Garage Talk is a Volkswagen podcast built around the stories people collect through years in the hobby. Craig from BrewDub talks with friends about how they got into VWs, the cars they’ve owned, bought, sold, rescued and built, lessons learned in the garage, road trips, camping, favorite shows, family, parts swaps, mechanical mishaps, and the people who helped along the way. Air-cooled or water-cooled, the cars start the conversation, but the stories are really about the people, friendships and memories that keep the VW community going. New episodes every other week!

Dave Aquamanski has been around Volkswagens since his first 1968 Beetle, which he worked on while stationed at Dover Air Force Base. Since then, Volkswagens have followed him through military life, family, friendships, road trips, breakdowns, restorations and plenty of stories along the way.In this episode of VW Garage Talk, Craig sits down with Dave at the Dunedin Causeway in Florida to talk about the Volkswagens that have shaped his life, especially his 1971 Bus, Tink.Dave shares how Tink went from a ratty, lowered Bus with holes covered by street signs and license plates to the tropical, instantly recognizable Bus it is today. He talks about restoring it, surviving a serious towing accident, rebuilding it again, camping in it, using it for photo shoots, and why he never restored it just to let it sit.We also get into his first Beetles, the Volkswagen Thing he always wanted after watching Surf Ninjas, his kids growing up around VW engine builds, Carrie’s role in working on Tink, and the military VW crew that became a family while Dave was stationed in Virginia. There are plenty of classic Volkswagen stories along the way, including roadside repairs, shared parts, late-night engine builds, driving a Bus with a cargo strap controlling the throttle, and the kind of friendships that keep old Volkswagens on the road.Near the end of the conversation, Dave talks about learning from longtime VW people like Larry at Olsen’s and why preserving those voices and stories matters. Years from now, these conversations become a time capsule for the next generation of Volkswagen enthusiasts. That is exactly what VW Garage Talk is about.VW Garage Talk is a Volkswagen podcast hosted by Craig from BrewDub, built around the stories people collect through years in the hobby. Danny Corrigan has been around Volkswagens since he was 16, when a dropped valve led him back to a local VW shop and an offer that changed everything: help tear the engine down and put it back together, and the repair would be free. He ended up working there on and off until he was 25.In Season 2, Episode 7 of VW Garage Talk, Craig sits down with Danny of Northwest Dub Ventures to talk about the Volkswagens, people, trips and projects that have shaped his life in the hobby. At the center of the conversation is Bill, Danny’s 1958 Volkswagen panel Bus. Once the 1996 Jerome Jamboree raffle Bus, Bill has since been transformed into what Danny calls his “Underlander,” a purpose-built VW camper that has traveled roughly 26,000 miles in the past few years.Danny shares how every trip has influenced another modification, from the interior and camping setup to heat, storage, Safari windows and a custom sliding cab divider. We also get into his 1953 ragtop Beetle, his wife’s Oval, VW metalwork, growing up around the Pacific Northwest Volkswagen scene, family camping in a Vanagon, learning from people like Bob Norton and meeting Gary Emery as a teenager. We also talk about Northwest Dub Ventures, why Danny started sharing his VW projects and travels online, Larry the Crow, helping other Volkswagen owners, roadside breakdowns, and why the VW community continues to mean so much to all of us.There’s a lot of Volkswagen history packed into this conversation, but like most episodes of VW Garage Talk, the cars lead us back to the people who helped along the way.Watch VW Garage Talk Season 2 Episode 7 with Danny Corrigan of Northwest Dub Ventures....and while you're at it, go follow NW Dub Ventures on YouTubeNew episodes of VW Garage Talk air every other week.VW Garage Talk is a Volkswagen podcast from BrewDub built around the stories people collect through years in the hobby. For more than 20 years, Greg and I have been buying and selling Volkswagens from each other, swapping parts, helping each other out, and crossing paths throughout the Florida VW community. For this episode of VW Garage Talk, we finally sit down in Greg’s garage and look back at where his Volkswagen story started and where it has taken him.We talk about learning mechanics early, rescuing abandoned VWs, finding old “honey holes,” daily driving a Squareback, junkyard engine swaps, building cars with his kids, family camping in a ’77 Bus, saving an Oval Beetle, and even getting back a VW chassis he had sold years earlier. There’s also a lot of conversation about the people who helped us learn along the way, how much the internet changed finding and saving old Volkswagens, and why the Florida VW community is still such a big part of both of our lives. This is exactly what VW Garage Talk is about. Old Volkswagens, old friends, and the stories that come with both.
Chad says he was basically born into Volkswagens. His mom traveled the country in a Westy, visited the Volkswagen factory in Germany, and even watched a new Beetle go down the assembly line. Years later, when Chad got out of the Army, one of the first things he did was buy a 1971 Bay Window. That Bus became his introduction to the local VW community, learning how to rebuild an engine, doing bodywork, painting, welding, and eventually restoring and customizing Volkswagens himself. In this episode of VW Garage Talk, we sit down in Chad’s garage in front of his ’65 Beetle and talk about the VWs he’s owned and built over the years, including multiple split-window Buses, a ’61 Double Cab, his seriously lowered Volkswagen Thing, water-cooled projects, and the Volkswagens he still wants to own.We also get into his years building custom cars, how Volkswagen ideas still find their way into his American hot rods, the people who helped him along the way, and why giving back to the local car community matters to him. It’s a conversation about much more than the cars. It’s about learning the craft, the people who helped along the way, and staying connected to the Volkswagen community decades later.Suburban Coffee Company is a veteran-owned specialty brand that blends a passion for premium coffee with classic car culture. What happens after decades in the Volkswagen hobby and more than 60 VWs owned? For this episode of VW Garage Talk, I’m hanging out with my friend Jeff in his Florida garage, surrounded by cars and decades of stories.Jeff has owned roughly 125 vehicles, including around 67 Volkswagens, and his VW history goes all the way back to growing up around Beetles in Pennsylvania. We talk about how his dad helped spark the obsession, buying and fixing Volkswagens before the internet made parts and information easy to find, and how that interest eventually turned into some seriously interesting cars.We get into his long-term Karmann Ghia restoration, early VW history, rare parts, stock restorations, Brazilian Buses, his son carrying on the hobby, and why preserving original details matters to him.And because garage conversations rarely stay on one subject, we also get into some of the unusual vehicles Jeff has owned over the years, including a rare Falcon-bodied VW and even a WWII-era amphibious DUKW.We also talk about something every Florida classic-car owner thinks about: hurricanes, flooding, insurance, garage storage, and protecting cars after Jeff’s garage took on more than two feet of water. This episode is exactly what VW Garage Talk is about.
