Freedom and Growth Between the Lines Are you a fun-loving, carefree person who prefers to drift with the wind? Are you happier following the rules and staying within the lines? Whichever you are, happiness and success will arrive when you combine both: 1) Too much flexibility in life doesn’t allow for compounding your life experience. Like money in the bank, leave it alone once you know what works. 2) Too much structure will limit your ability to discover growth opportunities. Don’t get stuck. Donnie and Marie said it best in the ’70s, “I’m a little bit country, he’s a little bit rock and roll.” Combine the best of both.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
You're Building Your Life Backwards October 21, 2025 | Episode 5207 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Smart people are doing it backwards right now. Even people who studied this exact thing in college are forgetting the basics. They're chasing respect before they can pay rent. They're demanding acceptance while their life's falling apart. Scott breaks down why 2025 has been so damn hard and what Abraham Maslow figured out in 1954 that still works today. No shortcuts. No hacks. Just the sequential steps you actually need to climb. Spoiler: You can't skip steps just because you're 21 and think the world is different now. Featured Story Scott's been having the same conversation over and over the past few weeks with successful people who've somehow forgotten what they learned in college. They're college-educated. They know Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. But when Scott reminds them what they studied at university, they go, "Oh yeah, I forgot about it." Here's the thing that keeps coming up: people are trying to build the top floors before they've laid the foundation. They want self-actualization and respect while they can't feed themselves or feel safe. Scott calls it building without a peaceful base. And in a year as hard as 2025 has been—politically, financially, with AI throwing monkey wrenches everywhere—more people are doing this than ever. Even his son-in-law thinks he has to fix his entire hurricane-damaged house by himself when he's surrounded by a church community ready to help. Sometimes the basics are right in front of you. Important Points Your best life is built sequentially, one level at a time—forget the elevator, you've got to climb the steps to the top. If you can't feed yourself, feel safe, or maintain good relationships, you're not ready to help others or reach your full potential yet. Humans figured out how to build this whole world without AI, and things that have worked forever still work today—don't get distracted. Memorable Quotes "What a man can be, he must be. You feel it inside your bones." "I don't think you have to wait to become the person you're meant to be. I think you were put on this planet as that person." "If you can't feed yourself, if you don't have good relationships, if you're not happy, how could you possibly go out and help other people?" Scott's Three-Step Approach Take inventory of where you are in Maslow's five levels—physiological needs, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Build your peaceful base first by handling the basics like shelter, money, relationships, and feeling safe before chasing bigger goals. Stop demanding respect and acceptance from others until you've mastered the previous levels—what you can be, you must be, but in the right order. Daily Boost Podcast Better Than A To-Do List September 17, 2026 | Episode 5544 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description You like getting things done. You've got a to-do list, maybe two, and you still end the day wondering what actually moved. I did the same thing until a flight instructor changed one word for me, and it changed how I run my whole life. Today I'll show you the difference between chasing check marks and doing the three things that matter. It's old school. It takes about ten seconds a day. And it works whether you run a company, a household, or both. Listen, then try it before lunch. Featured Story When I learned to fly, I was in a Cessna 172 and I was terrified of the preflight. You're absorbing a hundred years of aviation in a few weeks, and there's a checklist for everything, because at five thousand feet a missed item is a real problem. So there I am walking the plane, reading, checking, reading, checking, knuckles white. My instructor watched me sweat and said, " You're stressing out. Stop reading the list. Look at the airplane and ask one question instead. Did I do it? I looked at the tail. Did I check that? Nope. Went and checked it. The gas tank. The landing gear. Something loosened in my chest. Important Points * A to-do list is a parking lot for everything that pops up. It is not the map you use to run the day in front of you. * Pick three things every morning that move you forward, and let the other hundred items on the list wait their turn. * Stop chasing check marks. Walk through your day backward and ask whether I do it, the same way a pilot walks the plane. Memorable Quotes * A lot of you are living on your to-do list, and I will tell you right now, that is not how you get things done. * Instead of chasing your check marks all day long, you're focused on three things that will move the bar forward. * Life gets in the way, and before you know it, you're focused on the check mark instead of what is really important. Scott's Three-Step Approach * Dump every recurring task and loose idea into one trusted list, so your head stops running the same open loops. * Open that list each morning and pull out the three items that actually move your life or your business forward. * Walk through your day asking, "Did I do it?" and handle whatever comes back nope before you chase anything else today. Chapters 0:15 - A taste of fall and a question about your list 1:03 - Face Your Passion opens with a founder's rate 3:01 - Why AI made you busier instead of more productive 3:46 - Open loops, David Allen, and why dumping works 4:46 - The flight instructor who fixed my preflight panic 6:54 - Only three things a day actually move the bar 9:38 - The quick recap you can use before lunch today Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify * Email: [email protected] * Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com * YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast * Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith * Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove * Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. Daily Boost Podcast Old Motivation Forever Truth September 16, 2026 | Episode 5543 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description My internet went out Tuesday. A perfect day plan, a full slate of coaching calls, and everything stopped. So I recorded this one offline and took my next client call next door at Dairy Queen with a Blizzard in my hand. Which fits, because today I'm going old school. Napoleon Hill wrote about setting a major definite purpose and letting nothing stop you for 30 days. A hundred years later, I've watched thousands of people try it. Half of this episode is his wisdom. The other half is what really happens when life gets in the way. You need both. Featured Story A while back, I decided to pull away from AI in my creative work. Fine for tools. Not for ideas. I wanted those to come from me again. Then one night I'm sleeping hard, hours of dreaming, and the ideas start pouring in. Great stuff. In the dream I'm scrambling to write it all down before it slips away. Somewhere in the middle of it, my dreaming brain stops cold. Wait. I'm not plugged into the internet. My head isn't connected to anything. So where is all this coming from? I woke up laughing. Scott is going old school in his sleep. That one moment told me more about where good ideas live than any tool ever has. Important Points * Almost nobody sets a goal with a major definite purpose behind it. Find yours first, and the goal finally has a spine. * The minute you decide to change, the people around you will ask what you're doing. Expect it so it can't stop you. * Doing whatever it takes for 30 days only works if you know your values. Cross them, and you'll be back on this road. Memorable Quotes * Try to stick with something for 30 days straight, and you'll realize how much time you actually have in your day. * The very minute you decide to be something you've not been before, everybody around you will ask what you're doing. * Negative self-talk is like a bad habit. It's easier to pick up a new one than break an old one, so think about what's possible. Scott's Three-Step Approach * Name your major definite purpose, the big goal that gets you excited enough that the obstacles stop mattering to you. * Then write down every reason you can succeed, and shut down the negative self-talk before it hardens into a habit. * Finally, commit to 30 days where nothing stops you, as long as it stays inside the values you already know you hold. Chapters 0:15 - Internet down, Blizzard in hand, and a 30-day question 4:52 - Going old school in my sleep and the dream that proved it 5:14 - Napoleon Hill's major definite purpose, translated for 2026 7:02 - List your reasons to succeed and decide nothing stops you 8:10 - The scratchy voice earned from tens of thousands of hours 8:28 - What happens when life, politics, and money get in the way Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify * Email: [email protected] * Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com * YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast * Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith * Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove * Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. Daily Boost Podcast Remember What Makes You Happy September 14, 2026 | Episode 5541 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description You're the boss of you. I'm the boss of me. And every week I watch people who know exactly what they'd love to do wait for the weekend to do it. That's a lot of Mondays through Fridays spent on hold. Today I'm handing you a challenge. It'll sound counterintuitive, then you'll try it and go, " That was easy. I'll walk you through six zones where your passion lives, and why a couple of small things from those zones today beat all of them on Saturday. Do it today. Maybe tomorrow too. You'll feel more fulfilled and more in control. Featured Story I live in Florida. I see it all the time. Somebody spends forty years caught up in the kids, the job, the traffic, the cost of everything. They know what they love. They'll get to it later. Then they turn 65, sell the house up north, and roll into town. I escaped the great north. Now it's my turn to live. And then they check out. Heart attack. Gone. I've seen it way too many times to laugh about it. That's why I built six passion zones. Not so you can plan a retirement. So you can find the couple of things that make you happy and do one of them before the sun goes down today. Important Points * Doing three of your hundred passions today beats doing zero. Small daily doses beat saving it all up for Saturday. * You can pick how you want to feel by picking who you connect with. Need support or love today? Reach for that person. * Legacy isn't what they say when you're gone. It's the thing you do every single day that people already know you for. Memorable Quotes * If I know what I like to do, then I should do it, because if I do what I like to do, my life should be better. * Just because you have a list of ten things you think make you happy doesn't mean you need to do them every single day. * I don't really care when I'm dead. I consider legacy a living legacy: what am I doing every day that people know me for? Scott's Three-Step Approach * Name one thing you love in each of the six zones: personal, purposeful, connection, spiritual, abundance, legacy. * Pick two or three of them, not the whole list, and do a small version of each one before this day is over tonight. * Notice tonight how much more in control you feel, then run it again tomorrow. Start today, start moving, stay moving. Chapters 0:15 - A doggie birthday party and a challenge for your week 1:08 - You're the boss of you, so why keep beating yourself up 2:06 - Face Your Passion opens Thursday with 100 founder spots 3:24 - Caveman common sense: know what you like, then do it 4:56 - Six passion zones, starting with personal and purposeful 6:04 - Connection, spiritual, and my morning Jesus talk 7:22 - Abundance, living legacy, and the Florida retirement trap Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify * Email: [email protected] * Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com * YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast * Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith * Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove * Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices.
