This week on the pod, Lock your doors, call the doctor and deck the halls because we’re celebrating Christmas on Halloween with our coverage of the holiday home invasion movie in 2007’s “Inside”. Join us; two men,  discussing the mother of all pregnancy horror films. The most feminist, most extreme, and most French of films. As this marks our latest venturing into the pantheon of French Extremity films, we revel in this films efficiency and, even for the genre, bleakness and meanness as what separates it from all it’s peers we’ve covered not he pod like Martyrs, High Tension and Irreversible. But more than just a brutal and gory film, this one actually has the juice to scare the shit out of you. It’s a home invasion film that invades the safest space of all, leaving no room to take a breath for 90 minutes. Plus, sick kids and drilled out dads, Police that really need to be calling for backup, and Pete’s biggest gripe about Gilmore Girls. No-one should be home alone this holiday season on this weeks episode of I Didn’t Need To See That!Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod
This week on the pod, Look out for frogs, watch out for people wandering in the road and for the love of god, don’t check on the sexual grunts coming form your parents bedroom because we’re going to hell! Join us as we watched the 2015 Turkish surreal horror film “Baskin” and try unsuccessfully to make sense of this hodgepodge of a film. While we do like aspects of this film in more of a “Parts are better than the Sum of the parts” viewing; loose narrative threads and a movie torn between just wanting to be two different films left us with a weird taste in our mouths by the end. When it goes for something like “Hellraiser meets House of 1000 Corpses” in its extreme gore segments, the movies a hell of a good and nasty time! All to often though these moments are cut short by what we dub the “Memory Palace”, surreal moments that try a bit to hard to introduce threads that don’t fully pay off. Plus, discussions on how to pick a perfect end credits song for this movie, How much anime is TOO much Anime, and Aaron learns of the cultural touchstone for Tiny Tim’s “Tiptoe Through the Tulips”. All this and more on this weeks episode of “I Didn’t Need To See That!” Follow us: Email: [email protected]: @Ididntneedtoseethatpod
This week on the pod, we’re packing the car and heading into the mountains for a quiet, secluded little getaway that takes a hard left turn real fast as we watched the 1978 cult classic “I Spit On Your Grave”. Join us as we discuss one of the origin films to coin the term “Video Nasty”, and boy does it deserve that title. Whether it’s the audience watching the film, or the cast and crew on the brutal making of this film, noone comes out of these film feeling good about themselves. While the film does produce one of horrors most memorable survivors in the “Rape and Revenge” (and boy does that Revenge part feel good), we can’t help but wonder through all of director, writer, producer Meir Zarchi’s good intentions to show this story through a feminist lens, just how far can that really go both coming from a male lens and through the level of brutality on display over and over again in this film. Even for this podcast, it’s a bit much. Plus, the porn look of everybody from the 70’s, imagining Kenny Powers and Stevie Little in nearly every frame of this film, and the embarrassment of ED. On this weeks episode of the pod, brush up on your code language, find anything you can make a weapon and most definitely do NOT go back for your phone as we watched the 2015 thriller - horror film, “Green Room”. Join us as we discuss just how much research went into this movie by director and writer Jeremy Saulnier to ensure it passed the “Is it Punk enough?” Test. From pulling on his days in hardcore bands, to using his own bands songs in the film this movie puts you right in the crusty, white supremacist filled basements to a downright uncomfortable level. And that’s before all the visceral machete violence begins. Plus, we discuss aging as a man who doesn’t watch sports, tales of the crappy college band shows of yore, and honestly how much are nazis just a bunch of fucking fascist fashion nerds? This week on the pod, we’re traveling back in time and heading west to soak up all the cocaine, booze and tits that 1988 LA has to offer as we watched the documentary “The Decline of Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years”. While admittedly neither of us are that impacted by the genre of hair metal (Let alone alive at the time to bask in it’s scarf and leather laden glory), you still can’t help but admire the sparkle in the eyes of the young musicians and fans at the center of this film all doing their damndest to express themselves and follow their dreams. Join us as we marvel at what a mixed bag of characters this subculture at the center of this film appears to be. While at times the 80’s metal scene comes across as a place of rampant misogyny, unreported sexual assaults, alcohol abuse and bands that all sound the same; what does eek through is the genuine passion and an earnest “go for broke” mentality that sits in the spirit of everyone involved in this film. Sure, some are in it for the girls, the money, the fame; but in between the debt, divorces and broken dreams, for 25 minutes on stage each night, these people are gods. Plus, concert regrets, debating whether we’d go vegan or decaf first, and God Bless Lemmy.
