This week is a special one because it’s Todd’s birthday pick: Superunknown by Soundgarden. Talk about musical whiplash. After last week’s lush harmonies and sunshine of Pet Sounds, we crank the amps to eleven and dive headfirst into one of the defining albums of the grunge era. But beneath the heavy riffs and Chris Cornell’s powerhouse vocals lies the same fearless creativity and willingness to push musical boundaries that made Pet Sounds so revolutionary in its own time. We talk through the crushing guitar work, haunting melodies, and introspective lyrics that helped make Superunknown a 90s classic. Which songs still hit the hardest? Which ones surprised us the most? And how do the best beat and best bar shake out on an album this powerful? And as always, we wrap things up with our latest Songs of the Week.
