Description

Ōtautahi in Practice is a podcast where we amplify stories of curiosity, growth, and the transformative power of learning in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Each episode celebrates the unsung heroes of our city (Learning Champions and Ambassadors) who remind us that every lesson learned, big or small, shapes who we are.

We’re here to humanise learning, inspire curiosity, normalise failure, and foster real connection through storytelling. Whether the story takes place in a school, a community garden, a garage, a boardroom, or under the stars — this show explores what learning looks like in practice.

An Ōtautahi local, Cahaya Milne, shares her drivers for creating art and providing opportunities for others to learn something new. Beginning with a poem and ending on a marshland rave, our conversation highlights the new beginnings through love and loss.
Kahu Carter (Ngāti Maniapoto, Tainui) is a māmā, environmentalist, and Green Party MP based in Christchurch. Raised in a small farming community in the Waikato with a strong connection to Papatūānuku, Kahu has spent decades working across environmental advocacy, education, and community wellbeing. After her first term as a Green MP, she is making a serious play for the Christchurch Central electorate. We discuss what a Learning City means to her and how she sees herself as a lifelong learner.
