What if many of our deepest crises are connected to the way we have learned to know the world? In this episode of Voices of Emergence, Nigerian-Finnish writer, feminist theorist, and cultural critic Minna Salami joins Alex de Carvalho and Rudy de Waele for a wide-ranging conversation about knowledge, power, identity, feminism, decolonization, beauty, and what it means to recover a more fully human way of perceiving reality.Drawing from her book "Sensuous Knowledge," Minna challenges the dominance of rationality as our primary way of knowing. Human beings also understand through emotion, intuition, the body, lived experience, contemplation, relationship, art, and our participation in the living world. What changes when these forms of knowledge are no longer treated as inferior? From there, the conversation moves into African feminism and the relationship between epistemology and power; the warmth and relationality that can be lost through individualism; and the growing difficulty of holding different perspectives without turning difference into polarization.Minna offers a different orientation: polyphony. Rather than searching for a single worldview capable of explaining everything, what if we learned to hold multiple realities with curiosity, flexibility, and what Alex calls "perceptual generosity"?They also explore decolonization as a living process rather than an attempt to erase the past, Jungian individuation as a way of holding difference without losing one's center, and the role of art, silence, beauty, and contemplation in helping us encounter one another beyond ideological positions. At the heart of the conversation is a deceptively simple proposition: we are nature. We are not separate observers standing outside the world we are trying to understand or transform.Minna is the author of "Sensuous Knowledge" and "Can Feminism Be African?" Her forthcoming US edition, "Feminist Freedom: An African Vision," explores freedom through African feminist thought while opening into a much larger question about the kind of world we might create together.Hosted by Alex de Carvalho and Rudy de Waele, Voices of Emergence brings together thinkers, builders, and creators exploring how new systems of meaning, leadership, and regeneration are emerging through us: voicesofemergence.comSubscribe to explore the edges of leadership, culture, and consciousness.🎵 Intro & Outro MusicUsed with permission from AWARËTrack: Journey Live 5Listen on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/awaremusic/jurney-live-5Explore more at: https://www.awaremusic.art

What kind of human development do we need when technology is advancing faster than our psychological and relational maturity? In this episode of Voices of Emergence, Alex and Rudy speak with Dr. John Churchill, clinical psychologist, Dharma teacher, and founder of Planetary Dharma, about the profound transformation our times are asking of us.John explores AI as a new kind of fire, the relationship between meditation and embodied healing, the dangers of spiritual authority, and the need to rethink how we learn and develop together. We examine how love, wisdom, grief, and collective purpose can help us move from individual awakening toward meaningful systemic change. The conversation closes with a simple invitation: invest in friendship, deepen trust, and cultivate the relationships that can carry us through a collective initiation.Hosted by Alex de Carvalho and Rudy de Waele, Voices of Emergence brings together thinkers, builders, and creators exploring how new systems of meaning, leadership, and regeneration are emerging through us: voicesofemergence.comSubscribe to explore the edges of leadership, culture, and consciousness.🎵 Intro & Outro MusicUsed with permission from AWARËTrack: Journey Live 5Listen on SoundCloud: / jurney-live-5 Explore more at: https://www.awaremusic.art
We sit down with Samantha Sweetwater, author of True Human and founder of One Life Circle, for a deep and honest conversation about what it really means to become “truly human” in a world moving at breakneck speed. We talk about emergence as something both beautiful and destabilizing. We explore the difference between living from domination versus living from reciprocity. And we ask a simple but profound question: what if embodied attunement - paying attention to how life actually feels in our bodies and relationships - is the most important design principle of our time?Samantha shares a grounded perspective on AI that avoids both hype and fear. She speaks candidly about how powerful these tools are, how easily we can become captured by them, and why the next wave of autonomous agents could amplify extraction at a scale we barely understand. From there, the conversation turns toward community, trust, and what we call “fidelity” or “viscosity” - the kinds of relationships and shared spaces that take time, that have texture, and that remind us we belong to something real. We reflect on art, ceremony, and the possibility of a renaissance - not as nostalgia, but as a collective remembering of our place within the living world. If you feel the tension between the speed of the digital world and the slower truths of bodies, nature, and face-to-face community, this episode will resonate.Guest: Samantha SweetwaterTrue Human: https://www.samanthasweetwater.com/Hosted by Alex de Carvalho and Rudy de Waele, Voices of Emergence brings together thinkers, builders, and creators exploring how new systems of meaning, leadership, and regeneration are emerging through us: voicesofemergence.comSubscribe to explore the edges of leadership, culture, and consciousness.🎵 Intro & Outro MusicUsed with permission from AWARËTrack: Journey Live 5Listen on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/awaremusic/jurney-live-5Explore more at: https://www.awaremusic.art
In this episode, Stephanie Long Canavesio (Presence Embodied) shares what she means by emergence: the willingness to feel what we have pushed down, and the slow liberation from the chains of the mind.We talk about addiction and recovery, her pivotal meeting with Gabor Mate, nervous system safety, and why peak experiences do not equal healing. Real transformation, she argues, happens through integration, daily practice, and the courage to stay in the body.We explore how stories form as survival strategies, how trauma identities can quietly replace old roles, and how to recognize the narratives shaping us before we get trapped in new ones. We also examine the rebalancing of feminine and masculine energies, relational healing, and Stephanie’s vision for Difuso in Ibiza: a long-term, community-based approach to embodied transformation. If you are navigating change, questioning old identities, or rebuilding your relationship with your body, this conversation offers both perspective and grounded practices.Guest: Stephanie Long CanavesioPresence Embodied: https://www.presenceembodied.com/Hosted by Alex de Carvalho and Rudy de Waele, Voices of Emergence brings together thinkers, builders, and creators exploring how new systems of meaning, leadership, and regeneration are emerging through us: voicesofemergence.comSubscribe to explore the edges of leadership, culture, and consciousness.🎵 Intro & Outro MusicUsed with permission from AWARËTrack: Journey Live 5Listen on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/awaremusic/jurney-live-5Explore more at: https://www.awaremusic.art
