Kia ora Welcome to another episode with the Kiwi American Running Duo, this one is special because it's an interview episode. Mal and Dwayne get to sit down with Nigel Gilmour who within 36 hours of recording was buzzing after running his first sub 3 marathon. Mal looooves talking marathon training so we dig into all the topics of his build up. We ask Nigel about his background to running and why he even chose the marathon. We talk about his prior experiences with marathons. He has ONLY raced at the Auckland Marathon running . His current PB of 2:58 was a fun discussion to get to. We discuss any setbacks he had leading up to the race, hence a niggly calve injury. Mal loves breaking down some of his key sessions like the 3x 15 min and 4 x 20min at marathon pace. Interestingly, Dwayne had coached Nigel for this marathon so it was fun picking both their brains about how the lead up went. We breakdown shoe choices, fueling, and race plans. Nigel shares the difficulty of running in a pack but overcoming it after a few bottle pick ups. We close talking about the entirety of the race day and what his future plans are. Nigel seems to have some interest in ultras or maybe cracking another marathon. We will see! If you want to follow along with Nigel here is his strava link: Follow Nigel's Strava hereThanks y'all for the listen. Keep Chafing your dreamzzzzzBYyyyyyyYYYyyyyyeMal and Dwayne

Kia ora haere maiWelcome to another episode with Mal and Dwayne. We start the episode talking about our training. Dwayne’s taper week leading up to Taupo and Mal’s Frihaka plus being plagued with illness. Seems to be a reoccurring issue in this podcast. We dive into the DNF of Dwayne’s race for Taupo 100k. Largely discussing how race week went, race morning, and race day unfolding. His decision of when he knew he was done racing the 100k. His decision to recommit to eventually doing another 100k now that he actually has unfinished business. We talk about crewing, get snippets from Kieran Horne the 2nd place male finisher for the Taupo 70k distance and Amber Silich the first place female and 6th overall for the Taupo 100k. We bring up the new CR for the Taupo 100k set by Cary Carleton running a shocking 7hrs 40min. Mal describes her encounters with local Aster Metcalf noticing that she had a fall. Turns out that fall was 5k into the 50k and she had broken her hand and her neck. YIKES!!! We close reviewing the Chafing the Coin Collection on the 15th November.
