This is Mentorship Moment #2, a live strategy call with Meghan, a brand and website designer who co-owns Lemonade Co. with her friend. She bikes everywhere, she'd tattoo "fuck the system" on her face, and her full sleeve of stick-and-pokes comes from a guy in an off-grid cabin who serves tea and keeps the wood fire going. (Of course he does!)We get into why there are no rules about blog length, how to create a physical magazine that doesn't get tossed as junk mail, what I actually did in the "middle" of my business, and the question I knew was coming: how do you double your income?Do I ever give a short answer? No. Not one time. Meghan sat there smiling while I yapped my ass off, but of course, she walked away with a plan.TOPICS & TANGENTS— There are no rules for blog length (sorry, Neil Patel)— The exact blog outline I'd use for a how-to style blog post— My "People Also Ask" SEO hack (basically how I rank #1 for half my blogs)— Mailing a physical magazine to nonprofits so it doesn't get tossed as junk mail— Putting your freebie QR code on a coffee shop bulletin board— Meghan's stick-and-poke tattoos are done in an off-grid cabin with tea and a wood fire— What I actually did in the "middle" phase of my business (I decided I was the best, then acted like it)— ADHD diagnosis congratulations and the "ADHD MLM"— How to double your income without just working morePOINT OF THE STORYYou have to believe in yourself as much as everybody else does. If I don't feel confident in myself, who else is going to? Act in alignment with who you want to be, then back it up.Love you, mean it. 🖤MEGHAN LINKS— Follow Meghan on Instagram, Threads, and LinkedIn— Subscribe to her newsletter, The Squeeze— Check out her website— Follow Lemonade Co on Instagram— Her walkout songBTL LINKS— All of my website copy resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/web-copy— All of my email marketing resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/email-marketing— Take my website copywriting course: betweenthelinescopy.com/sprint— Sponsor this podcast (or my newsletter!): betweenthelinescopy.com/sponsorships— Follow me on Instagram at instagram.com/btlcopy OR instagram.com/capecodcierge— Subscribe to my marketing newsletter at www.betweenthelinescopy.com/subscribe— Subscribe to my ADHD newsletter at bysarajoelle.substack.com— Subscribe to my copywriter-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/open-loop— Subscribe to my designer-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/for-designers— Check out my website at www.betweenthelinescopy.comOTHER LINKS— 50% off Strategy Call (code SQUIRRELMENTOR, valid through 12/31/26)— Mentorship Moment Series Ep. 1: How to Recover From a "Failed" Launch: Helping my Podcast Manager Get a Fucking Grip— Read my Showit vs. Squarespace blog post— Learn SEO from Mariah MagazineThis episode was edited by Adrienne Cruz.
I could post an hour-long day in my life video on YouTube and not think twice, but ask me to sit down and record a five-minute video about something business-related? I quit. It sounds like the most overwhelming task on the planet. And "where's my fucking time?" is not a good enough excuse, because I have a podcast, a mentorship program, one-on-ones, client work, a membership, a regular YouTube channel, and a life (and a boyfriend). I always joke that I have 85 businesses. I'm also writing a book. Hello, almost forgot that part. I'm doing the most over here!!!So naturally, I invited a YouTube strategist on the show to tell me what I'm doing wrong with my channel.Jamar Diggs is the founder of J Diggs Media, and he helps brands, marketing teams, and service-based business owners turn their expertise into YouTube videos that sell for them without becoming full-time content creators.TOPICS & TANGENTS— Nobody cares about your hot takes until you help them first— I accidentally turn every video idea into a workshop— The lead magnet move that lets you stop waterboarding people with your knowledge— Jamar has no respect for YouTube Shorts— The accounting firm that made $100K+ from a phone and a white wall— Jamar's deer live stream gift shop— "Don't be broke about it" is the only setup advice you need— Starting from zero, and why embarrassment is a choice— How often to post and how long videos should be— Going live like it's a paid workshopPOINT OF THE STORYNobody cares about your hot take until you help them first. Your dream client doesn't know you enough to care about you yet, and they're not sitting there dying to know what's in your brain. All they want to know is whether you can help them and how. Solve one real problem, give them one solid win, and then they'll care about your hot takes.Love you, mean it. 🖤JAMAR LINKS— Follow Jamar on Instagram, Threads, and LinkedIn— Watch him on YouTube— Grab his free guide: How to Sell on YouTube (Even with a Small Channel) — Check out his website and his membership, the Low-Lift Club— His walkout songBTL LINKS— All of my website copy resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/web-copy— All of my email marketing resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/email-marketing— Take my website copywriting course: betweenthelinescopy.com/sprint— Sponsor this podcast (or my newsletter!): betweenthelinescopy.com/sponsorships— Follow me on Instagram at instagram.com/btlcopy OR instagram.com/capecodcierge— Subscribe to my marketing newsletter at www.betweenthelinescopy.com/subscribe— Subscribe to my ADHD newsletter at bysarajoelle.substack.com— Subscribe to my copywriter-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/open-loop— Subscribe to my designer-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/for-designers— Check out my website at www.betweenthelinescopy.comOTHER LINKS— Promote your lives with Luma, the free event tool that adds them to calendars and sends reminders— Script your videos with Speakflow, the free web-based teleprompter— Get the Elgato Prompter, the teleprompter that connects to his DSLR— Subscribe to my YouTube channelThis episode was edited by Adrienne Cruz.
300 weeks, five and a half years, and not a single missed Tuesday!!!Not for divorce, not for death, not for COVID, not for nothing. It was me and my beloved newsletter against the world. If you have ADHD, you know exactly why I'm making such a big fucking deal about this. I can't say I've stuck to anything the way I've stuck to the Tuesday Table of Contents. And I genuinely owe almost all of my success in business to it. So in this episode I'm sharing what I've learned from 300 newsletters, including why weekly newslettering isn't hard (you're just making it hard), and why the emails you think are boring are probably the ones people remember the most.TOPICS & TANGENTS— What newsletter #1 was like— How I grew from 60 subscribers to about 6,000— My email stats— Why a monthly newsletter gets you a "who the fuck is that?" and an unsubscribe— The three-sentence newsletter I remember fondly— Making your newsletter a thing— Sticking to a format is basically my Monday morning hip thrusts— Letting people in on the lore— Replies, deliverability, and the power of a squirrel emoji— The time I hard-launched my boyfriend and got 65 replies— How I've made over $1 million from email marketing alonePOINT OF THE STORYPeople don't need you to have something revolutionary to say. They just want relatable! If I'd overthought myself into never sending a damn thing back in January 2021, I wouldn't be here. So start sending, and see what happens 300 weeks from now.Love you, mean it. 🖤BTL LINKS— All of my website copy resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/web-copy— All of my email marketing resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/email-marketing— Take my website copywriting course: betweenthelinescopy.com/sprint— Sponsor this podcast (or my newsletter!): betweenthelinescopy.com/sponsorships— Follow me on Instagram at instagram.com/btlcopy OR instagram.com/capecodcierge— Subscribe to my marketing newsletter at www.betweenthelinescopy.com/subscribe— Subscribe to my ADHD newsletter at bysarajoelle.substack.com— Subscribe to my copywriter-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/open-loop— Subscribe to my designer-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/for-designers— Check out my website at www.betweenthelinescopy.comOTHER LINKS— Tuesday Table of Contents #300: 300 Weeks Straight. Everyone wants to reverse-engineer Jessi Jean's $6 million launch like it's a cheat code. And I fully get it! $2 million in 24 hours will make anyone start taking notes. But my guest today wrote the emails behind that launch, and her response to that is simple: you can't copy it.Julie Chenell is a digital marketing coach who wrote Jessi's entire email sequence, and she's here to spill all the behind-the-scenes tea. Jessi was posting daily content for five months with zero idea where it would land, and overdelivering because that's just who she is, not because she had a number in her head. She certainly did NOT set out to make millions of dollars with her viral Yap Challenge. But is it possible to replicate? Julie’s breaking down the four ingredients behind that launch, why she went digging through the meanest comments on the internet on purpose, and what she would've done for Jessi without a single viral post to work with.TOPICS & TANGENTS— How Julie wrote the email sequence that made Jessi Jean $7M— Her research process: mining Threads and testimonials for the good AND the bad, and using the hate to pre-solve objections— The difference between "lawyer arguing" emails and story-driven emails— Skill-based launches vs. transformation-based launches— Is Jessi Jean's launch repeatable?— The four ingredients behind the $7M launch— Threads strategy 101: post like it's Twitter, and do 10 comments for every post you makePOINT OF THE STORYYou don't need Jessi Jean's circumstances. You need a skill, months of effort with no promised outcome, and the discipline to keep going even when things don't work out!Love you, mean it. 🖤JULIE LINKS— Follow Julie on Instagram and Threads— Listen to her podcast Million Dollar Grit— Check out her website and her offer Funnel GorgeousBTL LINKS— All of my website copy resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/web-copy— All of my email marketing resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/email-marketing— Take my website copywriting course: betweenthelinescopy.com/sprint— Sponsor this podcast (or my newsletter!): betweenthelinescopy.com/sponsorships— Follow me on Instagram at instagram.com/btlcopy OR instagram.com/capecodcierge— Subscribe to my marketing newsletter at www.betweenthelinescopy.com/subscribe— Subscribe to my ADHD newsletter at bysarajoelle.substack.com— Subscribe to my copywriter-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/open-loop— Subscribe to my designer-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/for-designers— Check out my website at www.betweenthelinescopy.comOTHER LINKS— Jessi Jean's Yap Challenge— Jessi Jean on InstagramThis episode was edited by Adrienne Cruz.
If you've listened to literally any episode I've ever recorded, you already know Adrienne. She's my podcast editor, my future neighbor (currently manifesting this), and the human with the most encyclopedic memory of everything I've ever said out loud into a microphone.Today, I flipped the script and made her my guinea pig for a brand new series called Mentorship Moment, where I do one of my signature strategy calls for free and let you listen in!Adrienne came in with a real problem. Her first-ever launch of Saturday Morning Launch Plan (her podcast launch group program) sold 14/10 spots, but round two only sold ONE. She'd been sitting on that flop for months, convinced she couldn't emotionally survive doing it again. So we got into it, and by the end she had a legitimate plan, and a whole email sequence, AND a new freebie idea, and a million other things that shouldn’t realistically fit into a 60-minute strategy call but do in mine.TOPICS & TANGENTS— Adrienne becomes my first-ever recorded Mentorship Moment guinea pig— Chris (Adrienne's husband) gets publicly manifested a job offer in Boston so Adrienne and I can finally be neighbors— The TL;DR: Saturday Morning Launch Plan's beta round sold 14/10 spots, but the second round sold only one spot— What to do when your launch flops and you’re dreading the next one— Separating the technical readiness problem from the emotional readiness problem— The Life of a Showgirl discourse that had Adrienne muting Taylor Swift-related words on Threads— The two-freebie funnel strategy— Building out the welcome email sequence, freebies to launch, step by step— Splitting Saturday Morning Launch Plan into a self-paced evergreen version and a live version, and how pricing would be different for each— Why one flop launch doesn't necessarily mean the strategy is broken— Building in an end-of-program incentive to get people to do the thing— How long to market a launch before hitting launch fatiguePOINT OF THE STORYWorrying about a bad outcome that hasn't happened is its own kind of wasted energy. Better to spend that energy figuring out whether people aren't buying because they're not ready, not aware, or not yet convinced, and building the funnel that meets them where they are.Love you, mean it. 🖤BTL LINKS— All of my website copy resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/web-copy— All of my email marketing resources: betweenthelinescopy.com/email-marketing— Take my website copywriting course: betweenthelinescopy.com/sprint— Sponsor this podcast (or my newsletter!): betweenthelinescopy.com/sponsorships— Follow me on Instagram at instagram.com/btlcopy OR instagram.com/capecodcierge— Subscribe to my marketing newsletter at www.betweenthelinescopy.com/subscribe— Subscribe to my ADHD newsletter at bysarajoelle.substack.com— Subscribe to my copywriter-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/open-loop— Subscribe to my designer-only newsletter at btlcopy.myflodesk.com/for-designers— Check out my website at www.betweenthelinescopy.comOTHER LINKS— Cape Cod YouTube vlog with Adrienne— 50% off Strategy Call (code SQUIRRELMENTOR, valid through 12/31/26)— Learn more about Mentorship Moment strategy calls— Next Chapter (new mentorship coming soon!)— Launch Strategy for Squirrel Brains (with Kelsey Quinn, Coming Up Roses)— Saturday Morning Launch Plan (the whole subject of this episode!)— The Podcast Starter (Adrienne’s freebie)— Write Your Site— You're Not Annoying workshop— Swipe File— Off Your PlateThis episode was edited by Adrienne Cruz.
