A crime to buy a vest. Since 2022, it has been a crime in New York for most ordinary citizens to buy or sell body armor. Last Wednesday, U.S. District Judge John Sinatra Jr. in Buffalo struck the ban down in a 47-page ruling, holding that body armor is an "arm" under the Second Amendment and that New York could not show a historical tradition to justify banning it, per the Buffalo News and Spectrum News. He put his order on hold 14 days so the state can appeal. A vest does not shoot anybody. Its only job is keeping a law-abiding person alive. Chuck reads the ruling. Also in today's episode:- Brazil's runoff: a last-minute two-hour voting extension, Lula wins a fourth term with about 51.8 percent, and Flávio Bolsonaro rejects the result (CBS News, NPR)- Another weekend of cost-of-living protests in Italy, with water cannon in Bologna (Euronews, Al Jazeera)- The Media Research Center counts 620 stories featured by Apple News in January; not one came from a right-leaning outlet (Fox News)- The Pentagon's FORTRESS plan wants major bases able to run 90 days with no civilian power, fuel or water (Fox News Digital, Newsweek)- A Berkeley mathematician stops grading homework for right answers because of AI, per the Daily Californian (Breitbart, Newsweek)- A film critic on Klara and the Sun, the new movie about a robot best friend (The Epoch Times, Boston Globe)- Justice Clarence Thomas marks 35 years on the Supreme Court (The Federalist, Fox stations)Timestamps:00:00 Welcome to 64701:31 Brazil Election Controversy06:05 Italy Cost of Living Riots08:31 Brazil Runoff Fallout10:42 New York Vest Ban Struck12:27 News App Bias Exposed15:13 Pentagon Fortress Microgrids17:20 Berkeley Stops Grading19:05 Movie Review AI Friend20:51 Clarence Thomas Anniversary23:36 Sign Off and PrayerThere is a famine of truth in our land. The most powerful member of the Virginia Senate surrendered to federal agents Thursday. Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas was indicted with six others, two of her daughters and her grandson among them, in what prosecutors call the Lucas Enterprise: more than 100 kilograms of marijuana and about $4.5 million over five years, per the Justice Department and CNBC.
