What Kitchen Cabinets Cost Before the 2027 Tariff Increase Kitchen cabinets cost about $100 to $1,200 per linear foot, depending on whether you buy stock, semi-custom or custom, according to national cost guides. The tariff on imported cabinets and cabinet parts is scheduled to rise from 25 to 50 percent on January 1, 2027, and prices charged by U.S. wood kitchen cabinet and countertop makers already rose 5.4 percent in the year to September 2026. In this episode of The Cabinet Room, Chris and Jessica from IST Cabinets cover:Cost per linear foot. Fixr's January 2026 guide puts stock at about $100 to $300, semi-custom at $150 to $650 and custom at $500 to $1,200. HomeGuide, whose figures include installation, runs higher at the top. The bands match ones published before the 2025 tariff, so treat them as a starting point. The 10x10 kitchen. It is a comparison tool, not a budget. Fixr says the average kitchen needs 25 to 30 linear feet of cabinets. Houzz put the median major remodel of a smaller kitchen at $35,000 in 2025, and cabinets usually take about a quarter. What moves a quote. Box construction, painted versus stained finishes, designer colors, inset doors, modifications, panels, fillers, molding, accessories and installation.Tariffs. A 25 percent Section 232 tariff has applied to imported cabinets, vanities and parts since October 14, 2025, with caps for the UK, EU, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. The rate is scheduled to rise to 50 percent on January 1, 2027, except for countries that reach an agreement. Parts are covered, so "assembled in the USA" is not tariff-free, and the rate is set when goods clear customs.Ordering before January. Only if the kitchen is ready. Planning a kitchen or bathroom remodel in Cary, North Carolina? Half of Cary's homes were built before 2000 (Census ACS), so a lot of original kitchens and hall baths are due at the same time. In this episode, Chris and Jessica from USA Cabinet Store cover what is new at our Cary showroom, which 2027 trends fit a 1990s Cary house, what it costs, and when the Town of Cary requires a permit.NEW CABINET RELEASES, LINE BY LINEFabuwood: five Designer stains on the Allure Galaxy door (Biscuit, Claystone, Elderberry, Dark Aqua, Seaside Pine), Natural Oak, and Ovela, a new premium frameless plywood line.Showplace: Bourbon, a mid-tone brown stain for cherry, rift white oak, quartersawn white oak, and rustic alder.Mantra: Steam, a warm white with a soft gray undertone, plus new Universal Design bases.1951 Cabinetry: Garrett Bourbon Oak and Garrett Harvest Oak.Bauformat: the 2027 program shown at its in-house show in Germany in September, with black fittings, a new Miami front program, and an expanded range of more than 4,000 RAL and NCS shades (per local press). The pattern: warm wood, warm white, and more frameless, the same direction as the NKBA 2027 Kitchen Trends Report (white oak 49%, neutrals 96%, 85% say cabinetry hides appliances).KITCHEN AND BATH TRENDS FOR CARY HOMES81% of designers say zoned layouts are here to stay, so in a 1990s kitchen, keep the half wall and make it work harder. For baths (NKBA 2026 report), wood vanities now beat painted ones 62% to 53%, and 55% of pros say a larger shower matters more than a tub.WHAT IT COSTS (USA Cabinet Store 2026 cost guides, national ranges)Kitchen average: $27,000 to $35,000. Medium kitchen: $18,000 to $35,000 basic, $35,000 to $70,000 mid-range.Bathroom average: $16,500, most projects $8,000 to $45,000. 5x8 hall bath, mid-range, same layout: $16,000 to $28,000. Moving a drain or a wall puts a project in the upper tiers, from $30,000.Resale in Raleigh (Cost vs. Value 2025): minor kitchen remodel (keeps the boxes, new fronts) 95.5% recouped, major kitchen with all new cabinets 45.0%, bathroom 67.3%.TOWN OF CARY PERMITSNorth Carolina exempts work of $40,000 or less only when it involves no load-bearing structure, no added or redesigned plumbing, and no added, replaced, or redesigned HVAC or electrical wiring or equipment. In Cary, replacing cabinets in the same layout needs no building permit; adding an island, removing or adding a wall, moving a sink, adding outlets, a range hood, or a bath fan does. The Town's FY2027 fee schedule charges double permit fees for work started without a permit. How long does a kitchen remodel take, and what happens at each step? Here is the kitchen remodeling process, start to finish, in 6 steps. Chris and Jessica walk through the six-step remodeling process USA Cabinet Store uses at its 13 showrooms, with real on-site timelines, the typical budget split, cabinet lead times and permit timing. TIMESTAMPS:0:00 Intro0:33 Why a defined remodeling process matters1:05 How long a kitchen or bathroom remodel takes1:39 Step 1: Free design consultation2:16 Step 2: Measurements and discovery2:57 Step 3: 3D design and layout review3:32 Step 4: Material selection4:11 Step 5: Scope, estimate and budget split4:50 Average cost of a kitchen remodel5:33 Step 6: Lead times, permits and installation6:19 One designer, one project manager, one point of contact6:55 Key takeaways7:31 Book a free design consultation SHOW NOTES:Most remodeling stress comes from not knowing things: what it will cost, what it will look like and who to call. These six steps answer those questions before work starts. On-site timelines: a cosmetic kitchen update usually takes 2 to 4 weeks, a mid-range kitchen 6 to 10 weeks and a high-end renovation that moves walls or plumbing 12 to 20+ weeks. Bathrooms take about 2 to 6 weeks on site. Step 1, consultation: a free 60-minute design consultation at a showroom, at home or virtually. Bring rough measurements or just ideas.Step 2, measurements and discovery: measured drawings and site constraints, plus lead-paint testing for homes built before 1978.Step 3, 3D design: see cabinet placement, storage, countertop flow and fixture locations before anything is ordered.Step 4, material selection: cabinets, countertops, tile, fixtures, hardware, flooring and finishes, chosen with a designer. Countertops are templated and installed by USA Cabinet Store's own team.Step 5, scope and estimate: a line-item estimate. Typical budget split: cabinets 30-40%, labor 20-35% (cosmetic) or 35-50% (full remodel), appliances 10-20%, countertops 10-15%. The average cost of a kitchen remodel is $27,000 to $35,000 nationally, and Northern Virginia runs about twice that.Step 6, ordering and installation: cabinet lead times, counted from final design sign-off, run from days (locally stocked RTA) to 2-5 weeks (stock), 5-9 weeks (semi-custom) and 7-11 weeks (custom). Permits take 1-2 weeks for simple jobs, or 3-6 weeks with structural, electrical or plumbing work. Double sinks jumped 17 points in Houzz's 2026 bathroom study. Before you follow the trend, here is what the second sink costs you.Chris and Jessica read the 2026 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study from the cabinet side: vanities getting wider, double sinks becoming the default, outlets being built into the vanity, and the colors people actually chose. Then they put each trend next to the plumbing code, a manufacturer's spec book and the owners who already live with it. TIMESTAMPS:0:00 Intro0:23 Who Houzz asked, and what "up 7 points" means0:53 The three headline numbers1:31 Vanities are getting wider, in rooms that are not2:22 Do two sinks fit? Vanities over 72 inches rose to 21 percent of upgrades, up 7 points, while 48 inches or less is still the largest group at 37 percent. 64 percent of homeowners who upgraded their sinks ended up with two, up 17 points. 32 percent of upgraded vanities have a built-in electrical outlet, up 7. How wide does a double vanity need to be? Under the 2018 International Residential Code wording, each sink centerline sits at least 15 inches from a side wall and 30 inches from the next fixture, so two sinks need 60 inches between side walls. Codes vary: South Carolina uses 27 inches between fixtures, and Oklahoma's amended 2024 code applies the 30-inch spacing only to toilets, urinals and bidets. For comfort, a design rule of thumb is 72 inches with the sinks 36 inches apart. What a second sink costs: on Fabuwood's 60-inch Allure vanity, the single-sink version has six drawers in two stacks 14 1/2 inches wide, and the double keeps three in one stack 11 1/2 inches wide. Outlets: the 2018 IRC already allows the required bathroom outlet on the side or face of the vanity. A drawer interior is not on that list, so in-drawer power is an extra. Fabuwood's vanity outlet organizer is rated 12 amps, or 1,440 watts. What color bathroom vanity is most popular in 2026? Wood tones, at 31 percent, ahead of white at 19 and blue at 10. Paint is still the most common finish at 38 percent. Built-in vanities took 62 percent, freestanding 25 and floating 13.RESOURCES AND LINKS:Full article with the code text, scale diagrams and color chart: https://istcabinets.com/bathroom-vanity-trends/Bathroom vanities guide: https://istcabinets.com/bathroom-vanities/
