In this episode, I sit down with Amy Caira to talk about her journey to becoming a mum to her son Thomas. After two miscarriages, surgery to resect a uterine septum and almost three years of trying, Amy and her husband Matthew fell pregnant with Thomas. At their 20-week scan, they learned Amy's cervix had begun to open, leading to weeks of hospitalisation, monitoring and a rescue cerclage as they fought to keep Thomas safely inside for as long as possible.Thomas was born via emergency C-section at 26 weeks, weighing just 954 grams. Initially, Amy and Matthew believed their little boy was going to make it, but after developing an infection, Thomas died the following day.Amy speaks openly about their precious time with him, Matthew's experience of grief, returning home without their baby, another miscarriage, and the photographs, rituals and reminders that keep Thomas part of their everyday lives. It's a beautiful conversation about how the relationship between a parent and their baby doesn't end when their baby dies.Bound By Love Campaign → https://krumbledfoods.com/pages/bound-by-love-2026Follow Keira → https://www.instagram.com/krumble/|Support ServicesThe Still Nest → https://www.thestillnest.com/Supporting multicultural families through pregnancy loss, infant loss, infertility, birth trauma, and the transition to parenthood through evidence-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive care.Billies Besties → https://www.billiesbesties.com.au/Billie's Besties exists to honour Billie's legacy by supporting babies, families and communities navigating neonatal care, loss and life's most challenging beginnings.Bears of Hope → https://www.bearsofhope.org.au/Offers counselling, support groups, hospital outreach and early loss care for families facing miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal or infant loss.Olive & Kin → https://oliveandkin.com.au/Handcrafted Pottery with Purpose. In this episode, I sit down with my friend Olivia Jackson, just eight weeks after the death of her daughter, Blythe. At 32 weeks pregnant, Olivia went to hospital with severe rib pain, swelling and excess amniotic fluid. A scan unexpectedly revealed that Blythe had fetal hydrops, and within days Olivia and her husband Alex were preparing for her birth.Despite being told Blythe was very sick, Olivia believed they were facing a long NICU stay and that their baby would eventually come home. Blythe was born by C-section and initially responded well, before going into cardiac arrest the following morning. She lived for 36 hours.Olivia shares the precious time they spent holding and parenting Blythe, telling their six-year-old daughter Eloise that her sister had died, creating memories as a family, and recovering from birth without bringing her baby home. We also talk about the people who supported them and how Olivia and Alex have begun turning their grief into advocacy for other families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.Bound By Love Campaign →https://krumbledfoods.com/pages/bound-by-love-2026Follow Keira → https://www.instagram.com/krumble/Follow Olivia →https://www.instagram.com/the_oliviajackson/Our Charity Partners:Bears of Hope → https://www.bearsofhope.org.au/Offers counselling, support groups, hospital outreach and early loss care for families facing miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal or infant loss.Pink Elephants Support Network → https://www.pinkelephants.org.au/Provides resources, peer support, and connection for those navigating early pregnancy loss, including miscarriage and TTC journeys. The Stillnest → https://www.thestillnest.com/Supporting multicultural families through pregnancy loss, infant loss, infertility, birth trauma, and the transition to parenthood through evidence-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive care.Billies Besties → https://www.billiesbesties.com.au/Billie's Besties exists to honour Billie's legacy by supporting babies, families and communities navigating neonatal care, loss and life's most challenging beginnings.Olive & Kin → https://oliveandkin.com.au/Handcrafted Pottery with Purpose. In this episode, I sit down with Fatima El-Assaad, medical scientist, mum and founder of The Stillness, to talk about the stillbirth of her daughter Aya. During a routine appointment while pregnant through the COVID lockdowns, Fatima learned that Aya no longer had a heartbeat. She shares the experience of giving birth to Aya, washing and caring for her according to her Islamic faith, and the joy and love that existed alongside unimaginable grief when she finally met her.Fatima also speaks about the lack of culturally responsive resources for families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss, which helped inspire The Stillness. We talk about sibling grief, miscarriage, pregnancy after loss, perinatal anxiety and the ways families continue to love and parent babies who are no longer physically here.Bound By Love Campaign → https://krumbledfoods.com/pages/bound-by-love-2026Follow Keira → https://www.instagram.com/krumble/Follow The Still Nest → https://www.instagram.com/thestillnest.au/Our Charity Partners:Bears of Hope → https://www.bearsofhope.org.au/Offers counselling, support groups, hospital outreach and early loss care for families facing miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal or infant loss.Pink Elephants Support Network → https://www.pinkelephants.org.au/Provides resources, peer support, and connection for those navigating early pregnancy loss, including miscarriage and TTC journeys. The Still Nest → https://www.thestillnest.com/Supporting multicultural families through pregnancy loss, infant loss, infertility, birth trauma, and the transition to parenthood through evidence-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive care.Billies Besties → https://www.billiesbesties.com.au/Billie's Besties exists to honour Billie's legacy by supporting babies, families and communities navigating neonatal care, loss and life's most challenging beginnings.Olive & Kin → https://oliveandkin.com.au/Handcrafted Pottery with Purpose. In this episode, I sit down with Alex and Jackson to share the story of their spontaneous triplet pregnancy. After initially believing they were having twins, they learned Alex was pregnant with triplets.Given their experience of their daughter Frankie being born prematurely, Alex's cervical history and severe HG, they faced the devastating decision to selectively reduce the pregnancy to give their remaining baby the best chance of survival. At 20 weeks, despite a cervical stitch and their baby continuing to thrive, Alex went into labour and they lost their baby. Alex and Jackson speak openly about the guilt that can follow loss, saying goodbye to their babies, explaining loss to Frankie, and the different ways partners experience and process grief.Bound By Love Campaign → https://krumbledfoods.com/pages/bound-by-love-2026Follow Keira → https://www.instagram.com/krumble/Follow Alex → https://www.instagram.com/alexwray__/Support ServicesThe Still Nest → https://www.thestillnest.com/Supporting multicultural families through pregnancy loss, infant loss, infertility, birth trauma, and the transition to parenthood through evidence-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive care.Bears of Hope → https://www.bearsofhope.org.au/Offers counselling, support groups, hospital outreach and early loss care for families facing miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal or infant loss.Pink Elephants Support Network → https://www.pinkelephants.org.au/Provides resources, peer support, and connection for those navigating early pregnancy loss, including miscarriage and TTC journeys.SANDS (Red Nose Grief and Loss) → https://rednose.org.au/grief-and-loss-support/overview/24/7 bereavement support line: 1300 308 307Support for miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death and sudden infant death.Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia (PANDA) → https://www.panda.org.au/Support for emotional and mental wellbeing during and after pregnancy loss.Helpline: 1300 726 306Lifeline → https://www.lifeline.org.au/24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention.Call: 13 11 14
After six years of fertility treatment, Erin Holland had learned not to assume that a positive pregnancy test meant she would bring home a baby.In this episode, I sit down with Erin to talk about multiple rounds of IVF, failed transfers, miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy, and the emotional toll of continuing to try when it felt like her body kept letting her down.Erin speaks candidly about using work to cope, watching friends move into motherhood while she remained in a cycle of waiting, and the complicated feelings that came with pregnancy announcements and baby showers. After approximately 20 rounds of IVF treatment, Erin finally became pregnant with her daughter. But after years of loss, a positive pregnancy test no longer brought uncomplicated excitement. Even as her pregnancy progressed, Erin struggled to trust that everything would be okay, particularly when further complications emerged at 28 weeks. We also explore what recurrent loss can take from you, the guilt and self-blame that can accompany infertility, and why finally having the baby you've longed for doesn't erase everything it took to get there.Bound By Love Campaign → https://krumbledfoods.com/pages/bound-by-love-2026Follow Keira → https://www.instagram.com/krumble/Follow Erin → https://www.instagram.com/erinvholland/Support ServicesThe Still Nest → https://www.thestillnest.com/Supporting multicultural families through pregnancy loss, infant loss, infertility, birth trauma, and the transition to parenthood through evidence-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive care.Bears of Hope → https://www.bearsofhope.org.au/Offers counselling, support groups, hospital outreach and early loss care for families facing miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal or infant loss.Pink Elephants Support Network → https://www.pinkelephants.org.au/Provides resources, peer support, and connection for those navigating early pregnancy loss, including miscarriage and TTC journeys.SANDS (Red Nose Grief and Loss) → https://rednose.org.au/grief-and-loss-support/overview/24/7 bereavement support line: 1300 308 307Support for miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death and sudden infant death.Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia (PANDA) → https://www.panda.org.au/Support for emotional and mental wellbeing during and after pregnancy loss.Helpline: 1300 726 306Lifeline → https://www.lifeline.org.au/24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention.Call: 13 11 14
